  1. Somebody else can chime in with more detail as the subject was confusing, but Mortar carriers presented a dilemma in that they have a combined functionality of the carrier mortar as well as a dismount mortar. It came down to a choice of which option was less bad.
  2. It was originally begun as a visual aid in reading The Long Road Home. The TV show images weren't jiving with how the book described things, then I happened to catch an actual pic from the fighting and realized the TV show had taken even more liberties than I'd thought. I think I have identified the location Red 1 went to ground and marked it on the map. 1824 x 2544.
  3. Sadr City - a map in the works. Nowhere near as nicely detailed as LLF's Ramadi map, but intended more as a master map to be cut up and used as needed.
  4. Now that it is released we aren't tied to just showing stock pics. Modded for the true crappy affect for Iraq. And I really do mean crappy. Yes this is Kieme's building mod along with some other stuff for street sewage.
  5. Yeah what he said. I’ve also seen it when users have an issue with where the selected download to go. I expect those instances have the game hitting data instances from other CM titles.
  6. absolutely not, real life experience is highly valued here. out of curiosity are you or writerjwa considering getting cmsf2?
  7. Those gaps are not unique to CMSF as far as I can tell. Just loaded CMFB and plopped a couple buildings down. Firing through or exiting may be a different issue.
  8. Stop it. This will be another closed thread with this kind of back and forth. Tone it down unless you really don’t want to be able to have a thread open. You can disagree with @Sgt.Squareheadwithout flaming him. Heck I don’t agree with him either but can keep it civil. And who is “you guys”. I don’t think he is Russian.
  9. Yeah we need to document and be able to replicate. I have not seen this particular item. Not yet anyway.
  10. I tried bringing in some of the mods for TF Spartan Resolve. Uniform mod didn't seem to work.
  11. Honestly - that is the nature of warfare. It sucks. Commanding a unit means knowing you are going to ask your men to do something that has a high likelihood of meaning they will die. You don't have tactical options available to avoid taking casualties most of the time. This seems to be a recurring request for scenario design- to somehow give the player some sanitized version of war where you can make decisions and avoid casualties outside your mistakes. Scripting on the other hand, yeah not so much a fan of that, but scripting to me means forcing the player to only be able to succeed in that particular battle by doing things in a specific order. To me that is different though than being put in a position of having to fight and take casualties that you just have to absorb to meet your objective. To avoid that means setting a bar on certain types of combat that would mean eliminating them. As an example I just ran through a CMSF scenario that has a Canadian second echelon unit getting ambushed. You start the scenario under fire in the open and have to react and overcome the ambush. There are a few CMSF scenarios like that. They are a challenge and yeah it sucks to be under fire immediately, but if you don't accept that that can happen then you can't create that scenario. - and it is a fun scenario.
  12. May w@nt to start first with CMSF2 it is a nice balancing point in between the WW2 titles and cmbs. What i I was really interested in was Wellington’s peninsula campaign. Not least because it might give me an excuse to eat my way through Spain
  13. Not quite - The Taliban offered to turn him over to an Islamic country to be tried under their rules. Not quite the same as a "neutral" country. Considering how long our "ally" Pakistan harbored him that really was never an option. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/taliban-wont-turn-over-bin-laden/ Synopsis from Wikipedia- The United States requested the Taliban to shut down all al-Qaeda bases in Afghanistan, open them to inspection and turn over Osama bin Laden. The Taliban refused all these requests. Instead they offered to extradite Osama bin Laden to an Islamic country, for trial under Islamic law, if the United States presented evidence of his guilt.[99] The Taliban had previously refused to extradite bin Laden to the United States, or prosecute him, after he was indicted by the US federal courts for involvement in the 1998 United States embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.[100] The Taliban deemed eyewitness testimony and satellite phone call recordings entered in the public record in February 2001 during a trial as insufficient grounds to extradite bin Laden for his involvement in the bombings.
  14. It is General discussion forum, gotta give him credit for finally putting this stuff here. From a historical perspective it is an interesting item. WW2 had a huge impact on US demographics and cultural norms. The employment opportunities and upward mobility that spurred African American initiatives towards the civil rights movement etc is part of our history. The mass migration that this helped initiate of some 5 million African Americans to northern and western cities (resulting in an urbanization level of some 80%, far higher than the average demographic) has continued to impact our politics, social programs etc. The neighborhood where my family lived when I was born (Folcroft PA) had a race riot that lasted 3 days and was so bad state troopers were posted there because one black family wanted to buy a house. (Google 1963 Baker Incident). For me it is a short hop from the pictures John posted to a particularly traumatic moment from my childhood. I expect the Philadelphia Shipyard was one of the locations that drew folks to relatively better skilled paying jobs as it expanded it's work force in WW2 to some 40,000 people. In addition Chester PA had another shipbuilding facility along with a lot of other war time related expansion in steel production etc.
  15. The rule is not competitors but commercial links period. Just tell Steve it was a charity contribution for a game that apparently sucks for playing more than a couple weeks. I'll be honest. I got bored while watching the video. I just can't seem to get myself wrapped into Napoleonic or Civil war games despite an interest in the period historically. The games just haven't gotten me yet.
  16. yeah size really does matter I have an 1800x2500 dense urban map I have been working on - no elevation changes and no flavor items... and no units. It still takes a while to load. I don't expect it to be playable but rather be a master map.
  17. The biggest issue with elevations is buildings. You’ll want to try and make sure exit and entry locations will work as elevation changes can mess with that.
  18. Oh Christ. Really? That is the Russian defense now, we thought that it was a tbied? Tugboat borne ied? Sounds not much different than the various excuses for MH 17.
  19. I’m saying that if an airplane didn’t follow traffic regulations you wouldn’t ram it would you? And the analogy to NY doesn’t hold. Not much you can do with a tugboat to threaten anyone. The Russian response is ridiculous no matter the spin on regulations. This isn’t the first time Russia has practiced that kind of behavior including against US ships.
  20. Or MH 17. They are all wrong, none of them make any of the rest right. One difference is the US incident was settled in an international court and the US did provide a substantial monetary settlement.
  21. And Russia can ram another nation’s ships as opposed to registering a complaint with an international body? C’mon man your bias is showing.
