  1. Unless you think 3j2m7 had his account hijacked there isn't much chance that is gonna be a virus... and the link actually doesn't look suspicious at all....it looks like a link to a standard boardgame geek item... so no it actually doesn't look at all like a red flag.... the reason for posting is because it is funny.
  2. Because CMBN does not have the My Docs folder. No matter how many installs you make of the other titles they will all share that one folder making it a space saving place to put mods you would always use. Every install of CMBN would needs it's own copy of your default mods. So using Black Sea as an example. I would put my sound mods in the my docs/battlefront/combat mission/black sea/user data/mods folder and my TF Spartan Resolve mods in my TFSR/Black Sea install data folder. If I run my vanilla install CMBS game it has the sound mod, but not the TFSR mods. If I run my TFSR install it has the mods and the sound file as well.
  3. Lol yeah. CMSF is sometimes easier for rationalizing behavior. The civilian element was in reality always an element for modern warfare. Reading Day of the Rangers now and Somalia civilian behavior was a whole other thing. Hard to get your head around deliberately putting women and children in the way.
  4. Iirc correctly Chris used a mod on US Marines to create a special ops team working with US airborne for the scenario “the snitch” in the TF Panther campaign.
  5. Day of the rangers. History of the battle of Mogadishu with some new material apparently. Has some good reviews. Also just downloaded Madness in Mogadishu. Story told from the viewpoint of the 10th mountain division
  6. The one I already gave you I considered adding individual teams but what I ended up with is I think closer to actual.
  7. Tactical operations at that scale don't really fit for this game engine. To do those justice you'd need a smaller scale and actual individual unit order capability. You might also find it excessively boring. Your mission - take up a remote observation post and monitor the village from hiding for two days..... report your findings later. Larger operations on the scale of Mogadishu with Delta, the Rangers etc can be done. A little creativity even w/o modding. I wanted to see about doing Generation Kill. Thing is ToE for Marine Recon seems to be a platoon is 3 "squads" of 6 men each. So I took a Marine platoon, assigned headcount to 50%, combined and then split the resulting squads to have 3 and 4 man teams depending on how CM split them up. I then got a bunch of Hummvees dismounted the crews and mounted up Assassin 1 and off they went.
  8. Just happened to me recently so yeah you do need to pay attention to your teams in built up areas (this was on the Ramadi map). What I have not seen is one that just will not correct. So far in every instance I have just had the team return to the "stuck" unit and then it seems to be fine after that. It usually occurs to me only when I am giving extended movement orders which in built up maps is only a small amount on the time. Most of my movement in those conditions is a couple AS typically. I write it off as those guys getting caught up interacting with civilians. Once I started thinking that way, it almost became a feature.
  9. I use them both for different purposes. If I have a heavily modded pbem game going that isn’t tagged mods I’ll have it as it’s own install but I keep standard mods I use like sound etc in the my documents folder so all the installs use them. Unfortunately with CMBN I don’t have that option. .
  10. you somehow inadvertently copied additional brzs from different games into the folder or are missing some. Can you post the contents of your data folder? This is what you should have
  11. take a look at some of my notes on that thread I have tried a couple variations with it and have not identified any terrain based considerations (like eliminating the craters). I am able to reliably duplicate. wondering if there is something else more subtle or baked in. I have the single scenario version so you can hot seat
  12. cover, concealment, or both? Part of the issue with the AI is it just doesn't have the capability to nuance a decision that well.
  13. check your mods folder, you have something specific going on.
  14. Funny enough I just did this recently myself. The constant background fighting was actually messing with the immersion of a couple scenarios I was messing with.
  15. more like this I think the history of almost everything my wife has asked me to do has been its a lot harder than people thought and planned
  16. Yes and no. Based on the experience from CMSF2, if you start with a good scenario and map it is actually not so difficult. Starting from scratch = hard starting with a not very good scenario = starting from scratch having to add water = potentially a big pita starting with a good map and a good base scenario = not so bad but it worth asking anyway. As you note it isn’t asking for engineering time or ToE so if there is a gap why not? For what it is worth the battlepacks so far developed have been usually an individual effort. It is possible and if this is something someone felt they were interested in I am pretty sure BF wouldn’t object. No that is not my hand going up, I was just checking my bald spot.
  17. Agreed while it may be a little difficult 1st time around, once you get the hang of it using copy and paste you can then create multiple plans that keeps the FOW aspect. If you don’t play pbem this is one way to get your fix for more playability.
  18. It would be pretty cool, but in the list of things for BF to do it simply isn’t there. Also has a knock on affect in that those individuals wouldn’t be working on scenarios for new releases. I am with you though on a willingness to pay if they were redone. The triggers can add so much to the responsiveness in an engagement for single player.
  19. Good point. The AI advances have increased the complexity of scenarios as well. CMFB was a fest. Lots of good material to work from making overlays and a lot of folks working them.
  20. I don't think it works that way. Those 4 maps show it simply because they have something that absolutely requires GL for some reason, but it is highly unlikely that map 383 requires GL while 386 doesn't with 386 not also coming as part of GL. I am surprised any of the maps themselves require a module. Not sure what GL added in terrain that would do that and only show up on 4 maps. Damn and I can't look right now......grrrr curiosity is killing me.
  21. You'll have an M1 that looks like a T34, but shoots like an M1.
  22. It was called the Guns of Retimo. All I have (still surprisingly) are the actual PBEM turns. I don't have the BTT file. @Broadsword56may.
  23. It is a very subjective thing. You like something or you don't based on your preferences etc. Personally I did like GL, but I reserve my real vote for CMSF2. While I like CMBS it doesn't scratch my itch the same way. I am not so sure I understand your comments though on maps - from the website - Four campaigns, 18 stand alone battles, and a large number of Quick Battle maps. Not sure why you think there were just 4 if that is what you are saying, I could be mistaken. BF did lavished more attention on CMBN than any other title. There simply is no way they were going to be able to do that for all of them. We got spoiled. I basically look at it this way. Every title is going to be different. Trying to compare two and say one is not worth it because it doesn't have X while ignoring that it does have Y where the first one didn't is a rabbit hole I avoid. You're gonna like what you are gonna like and not every title is going to scratch your itch the same way. CMRT doesn't really do it for me while for others it is the best title.... go figure.
