  1. Yousendit works fine. As a stalwart CMx1 PBEM fanatic I had to resort to it a few times, simply due to ISPs mass rejecting all emails from my ISP. It's an extra step but you don't even notice it after awhile. Been using it for almost a year for free with no problems.
  2. I like "Hunt" so far. I just use slow if I want them to keep moving and be careful.
  3. Putting my vote in for unit purchasing (though I've already whined about it in another thread or two). Reason? Mainly the fun factor. I was never someone who cared about the whole 101/121 points for whatever unit. I just liked making fun, even unlikely QBs. Even if it's just available for Blue:Blue/Red:Red, it should be an option. Two more reasons why it should be in CMSF (although given the explanations by Rune and Moon I guess it's not a deal breaker): CMSF is based on a hypothetical war, so it only needs to be as real as you want it to be, and two: I don't trust the AI to choose the best units. My limited faculties suspect that CMSF is a better game, but me no trust it...yet. Nor did I trust CMx1. Also, the unit purchase screen was extremely helpful in getting used to unit quality and makeup. Especially in a game where a lot of things are unfamiliar.
  4. Haven't dropped onto the servers for awhile, nor these forums, but I just downloaded CMSF and popped in here. I'll be back online playing now that it looks like some grassroots interest is being stirred up (I'm konstantine in game, just follow the smoke--that'd be my Apollo burning). Also I mostly agree with the first post. I don't think it's fair to comment on finances, Battlefront is basically a boutique gaming distributor (and by golly I paid $45 for the damn thing so everyone else should too!)...but this forum, and by extension this game has been dead, or at least in a deep coma for awhile now, if you ask me. Now that CMSF is out I hope Clay starts posting updates and maybe Battlefront gives the game another little push. That said I know the WWII mod is in development, and methinks Clay was helping with CMSF, so maybe that's one reason why it's been so quiet around here lately. Nice also to see the power of the somethingawful games forums behind this game. I think I may have started the original Drop Team thread there...(when the demo came out)!
  5. My Syrians were doing that in the first training scenario. "How long until the quartermaster gets here with the new jackets?"
  6. I'll try again: how come we can't purchase units in CMSF QBs? The reason I want this is because it really helped me with the learning curve in CMBB. That and I really like custom QBs.
  7. My questions always get overlooked in these threads (easily printable hotkey reference sheet, anyone?), but here is another one: Why can't we choose our forces in a QB? I can't believe I overlooked this very salient point as I followed this game quite closely for the past couple of years. I really want to be able to browse through and choose my own units. However, I am enjoying the gameplay and learning curve so far. edit: forgot to mention the music isn't bad! [ July 27, 2007, 07:35 PM: Message edited by: konstantine ]
  8. It's all been said, so, simply everything is great so far, but is there a printable list of hotkeys until I memorize everything?
  9. The Peng thread is funny like the Chuck Norris meme was funny six or seven years ago, except people keep reviving it like it's fresh and new. Similarly, the Peng thread keeps going. It's like seeing an old fat man at the pool with no shirt doing a belly flop in bullet time.
  10. I see. Thanks for the added info guys. I am aware it's a warzone, my questions are wholly out of curiosity mixed with ignorance. I'm not implying any criticism. Also Mikoyan, to clarify: in the video there are two separate incidents. The first involves the Bradley, the second involves the ambush of Iraqi troops. The soldiers following the Stryker on patrol occurs after the Bradley gets wasted. Both houses are breached on that occasion. Then, the old lady's house is entered again, on the second occasion, to treat the wounded Iraqi (who lives or dies, who knows). My conclusion is that while the video is interesting the narration is complete crap. There is no context, just a series of disconnected vignettes with interviews of some understandably shaken up soldiers.
  11. Well, duh. No need to be patronising. I am asking sensible questions. What SOP are the soldiers in that video following? I see a Stryker move out with soldiers following it. Why? They are not under fire by any sensible interpretation of the video clip, both sound and movement. Then the soldiers breach two successive nearby homes without any explanation. Why? Aren't most remotely triggered IEDs triggered by infra-red or cell phones these days. Wouldn't a spotter be at least a block or two away? Quite frankly it appears they breach two random homes for no other reason than that they can. That could be wholly due to the lousy narration, I don't know. All I'm saying is I don't understand the actions in the video. The only thing that's clear is that the Bradley got wasted and appeared to be travelling by itself.
  12. There were no bullet sounds though. And the narrator didn't mention the soldiers were being fired upon--a pretty salient oversight. Also the soldiers were running upright, not ducked and scrambling.
  13. Interesting video. I'm not sure if it explained much in the way of tactics, for example it wasn't evident why they breached either home. Yes an IED went off, but why those homes in particular? Interesting to see the Stryker move out ahead of the soldiers when they begin patrolling (after the Bradley gets wasted)--is that SOP? Or was the area controlled? Hopefully my questions get answered before this thread derails any further.
  14. Direct download and mail version ordered. YEEHAW! Hey, is the game going to be mailed out in a nice case this time instead of an envelope? Or is that just the retail version? Anyways, cheers BF!!
  15. Direct download was a cinch, although a download manager was necessary for me. No big surprise, plus when I emailed about my stalled download attempts Battlefront emailed me back in something like 10 minutes with a solution. FYI according to wikipedia Securom has issues with process explorer.
  16. The deluxe option is great. Looking forward to watching my wife roll her eyes when I tack that map to the study wall. that's not staying up there. Actually, I'm stronger than you, so, it is.
  17. A, to digital download as soon as it comes out.
  18. Yeah me too, I'll pre-order as long as I have enough time to upgrade my machine. I need a sound card anyways, so the minimum necessary video card, especially a couple of recommended video cards would be appreciated. Granted Drop Team runs just fine if I adjust the graphics settings. And Drop Team has some eery similarities to those videos in terms of environment modelling and vehicle movement.
  19. I downloaded v.6 and it crashed when I tried to join the server. It also wouldn't let me use the mod in standalone mode.
  20. Great news on a Friday morning. I thought I'd been following this one closely, but what's this about retail release? Does this include North America (eg. Canada)?
  21. Wow, this is a fun module. Thanks, Poesel.

    Updates

I'm feeling a little more cynical than that. While I hate reading all the "vaporware" and "Battlefront sux lol" accusations in the other game forums, and I understand that Battlefront is a small company and can't afford major advertising campaigns, and I believe they did the best they can with the resources they have... I'm tired of seeing no one on the servers. This game is meant to be played on line. There's never anyone on-line (once a week doesn't count, sorry). That's a major problem right there. That means, in my limited understanding of the gaming market, not enough units were sold. Either way I hope to see more time invested into marketing and publicity, or the WWII mod, to try a little harder to get a critical mass started. I still feel like my money was well spent. But I'm starting to hear these jaded voices in my head...
  23. Unfortunately the WWII mod does not have its own development forum like CMC or CMSF, so there is no way to check for updates. The announcement itself is over 3 months old, isn't it?
