  1. What is the stock theme music, anyway? It's not in the credits, and it's actually a pretty catchy tune. Also, DragonForce rules.
  2. I experienced the voice function for the first time online and it took about ten seconds to see how worthwhile it is. I am shopping for headsets this weekend. Funny thing is, it scared the bejeezus out of me. I dropped into a server and suddenly this disembodied Australian is asking me if I've got voice.
  3. PST, and I usually check in a bit later my time, like 8-10 pm. I'm probably missing most of you guys by then. :/ Also, I'm a little bored with CTF. I want to try some coordinated assault/defend.
  4. You need to go back and forth over the same terrain a few times to see a difference.
  5. Hmm, my thoughts exactly, except I wouldn't suggest that the gatling gun have armor piercing quality. Nice sig BTW--I'm a fan of the Dark Tower series myself.
  6. I got killed a lot. And I like the tactic of dropping a sensor jammer on a hill and picking off targets while you're "invisible". I'll probably be back online tonight around 9:00-10:00 PST if anyone wants to try their hand at turkey shooting again.
  7. Personally, I'm a little worried about greenhouse gas emissions. If they are modelled, what kind of damage are they doing to all the atmospheres of the different moons and planets? If they aren't modelled, well, that's a severe blow to the game's claims of accuracy.
  8. If this question is better suited for the tech forum, I'll post it there, but since this isn't a glitch or bug I thought it might help more people than just myself. In the manual it suggests to enable terrain VBO, shaders, shadows, and high definition rendering. For a couple of basic hardware related reasons having all of these settings enabled causes lag on my computer (older, but well within the minimum spec requirements). For those of us without top of the line systems, what is the recommended "hierarchy" of graphics settings (maybe listed from "essential" to "just makes flowers look prettier")? Or is it all or nothing?
  9. I downloaded the ForceWare version 84.21 driver and those options are now available. However, now the game lags with them . :/ That, I am positive, is a combination of an old video card and crappy sound hardware (I had the same issue with IL-2). I'll experiment with the settings and see what works best for me. Thanks for the quick response.
  10. In the manual it suggests running Drop Team with terrain VBO, shaders, high definition rendering and shadows implemented. However, these options are greyed out for me. I updated my video drivers but nothing changed, except I got a dialogue box saying that I need Open GL 1.5. I quickly played a standalone scenario with multiple bots and everything worked fine. My video card: Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (128mb RAM). Otherwise I have the recommended Pentium 4 (2.8) and 1 gigabyte RAM. I am also running Windows XP/SP2 if that helps. Do I need to update my video card? I checked out the recommended specs, but I don't know very much about hardware.

  12. I just wanted to say this is great news and is much appreciated.
  13. Hey, my pleasure. I hesitated to do post about it, as also to suggest it could a bug, because I strongly suspected it was all due to my own stupidity.
  14. yes, that was in fact the problem, because I was scrolling right to check the time and ping. I was able to connect no problem just now by scrolling left and clicking "Join Game". Thanks for resolving this so quickly.
  15. One idea (that may have been mentioned) is to allow indirect fire weapons to scatter mines or bomblets.
  16. update: edited original post for clarity. I retried today and I still can't join any 9.44 servers.
  17. 1:13 AM (-8 GMT), just upgraded to 9.44, and I can't join any servers. I tried all listed servers (even non-9.44), also tried restarting and re-updating. I am not getting an error message--I choose a 9.44 server, click Join Game and nothing happens. I am running Windows XP Home edition on a Dell with 1 gig RAM and a Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz. 128 mb Nvidia GEforce FX 5200. No issues whatsoever with the public beta until now. Love the game though. 18. um, bump? When I died in indirect fire mode using the Hurricane (more than once) I could not exit or return to menu, I had to manually exit the game using ctrl-alt-del.
  19. I have had CMBB installed since it first came out, and now it starts up without sound. No opening music, no toggle sounds, no sounds in game. This has been happening intermittently until now, and now I can't get it to start with sound at all, even after restarting my computer. I am running Windows XP Home on a Dell with 1 gig RAM and a Pentium 4 2.8 GHz. I have nothing but the factory piece of crap sound card installed, however all other programs work fine (Itunes, DropTeam, etc.) so I don't think that's necessarily the problem. One weird thing I noticed is that all the WAV files for CMBB now have the Windows Media Player icon--but when I try to play them standalone it says Windows Media doesn't have the required codec. Is that a clue or is it irrelevant? My computer does currently automatically play all media (sound and movies) with Windows Media, which irritates me but I don't know how to change this, as I prefer I tunes for music and VLC player for movies/tv. edit: for clarity, plus it only affects CMBB. 20. I tried to extract a Hurricane without exiting from the ctrl-M indirect fire menu. The dropship was shot down when extracting and I had to exit the game via ctrl-alt-del, because I couldn't exit the indirect fire map (it overlaid the exit screen). This also happened when I died in ctrl-m mode using the Hurricane.
  21. I just used indirect fire to pretty decent effect in a recent game. My opponents got wise to the fact that I was shelling the lee of a particular rise they were using to support their attack from, so they started moving and hunting me. I extracted myself and started targetting dropships instead--if you time it right, the round lands just as the dropship begins to rise--I'm not sure but I think I killed both the dropship and the dropped player once or twice. After I drop I always used to pause for a second to orient myself, so I won't be doing that anymore, as I am sure I killed a few opponents who were doing just that. A question though: can you kill the automated ATGM turret inside the base (Icefield)/ion beam turret (Raid) when attacking? I lobbed a few rounds into the area of the base where the turret in the opneing minutes was but never got close enought to confirm. Although my team's dropships were landing with impunity. I was very surprised to learn the ion turret in the raid scenario kills mortar rounds--no complaints as long as you can kill the turret right back. edit: you can kill the ion turret in the "Raid" scenario, as I just discovered. But it took about six shots with the Hurricane aimed in direct mode for it to die. [ March 24, 2006, 01:59 AM: Message edited by: konstantine ]
  22. changed subject heading to reflect this disturbing and clearly illegal misuse of transports.
  23. I don't know, maybe I suppose--I haven't seen or experienced a transport in action. I had just dropped and dropships were blowing up all over the place.
  24. I was just playing on the Judas Reach server, the icefields scenario, as a Shrike, and while I was navigating a patch of ice this happened: I was suddenly transported hundreds of meters above the surface and landed only to suffer gun damage (as though I rolled over). edit: looks like someone decided to take me for an impromptu aerial tour of the battlefield. 25. I've heard lots of comments about the 20mm/76mm, and I am wondering if that isn't because you all are using them standalone against the bigger tanks and hovercraft. They work just fine against other light vehicles and the light tanks. Granted, most people are playing with the big guns, which emphasized the lesser punch of the 20mm/76mm, but I imagine in future online play/scenarios the heavily armored units might be more limited/rare. Right now it's a free for all and it is rare that any one unit is depleted at the end of a game. Therefore I personally am focusing on the Paladins since they seem like the "backbone" unit, and I'm having fun with them taking out turrets, Shrikes, command vehicles, dropships, etc. I actually prefer the Shrike but it is the one unit that depletes fast. Stop wasting my Shrikes, people.
