para reacted to Combatintman in Controversial Pegasus book out by German SME on German Normandy batteries
The German edition, according to your link, was published in 2014 which is probably enough time to have garnered a review or two.
    The  author:
    http://worldcat.org/identities/lccn-nb2003070679/
The original publisher of his books:
    http://www.hek-creativ-verlag.de/
The author and publisher being one and the same.
How many reviews of his works over the years …? Not many …
The absence of a substantial review base is not necessarily the be all and end all but he is also not a historian by trade.
Whether the book is controversial or not is another matter, that label is applied by the person writing the linked article. If you delve into the narrative in the article, it seems that the 'controversy' boils down to:
The Germans didn't fight much. True - they lost. Lieutenant Brotheridge was killed by his own side. Could have been, it was dark and there were a fair few rounds going down range. Lieutenant Brotheridges's circumstances of death have been covered up. Depends really on whether he was killed by his own side, whether anyone knew that his own side had killed him and what defines a cover up. Just for sh1ts and giggles, let's say that Lieutenant Brotheridge was killed by friendly fire. His death I am sure would have been recorded in official records as killed in action. I doubt anybody really had the time or inclination to investigate the cause of every death in action with there being a war on and all that. In conspiracy theorist world, because the accurate statement 'killed in action' does not say 'killed by own side' and that there was no further investigation, such omissions amount to a cover up.  This reasoning is generally flawed.
Back to the end of the article at your link:
'Although the author cannot provide further evidence to support his hypotheses than the many testimonies of veterans, he nevertheless contributes to shaking up the historic lines of D-Day.' This seems to me to indicate that the author lacks evidence beyond a few old people that he spoke to. Oral testimony has its place but as you ought to know from your intelligence background, you have to question the validity of such testimony years after the event, particularly when it is uncorroborated by other sources.
So, that is a pretty long way of saying - don't get 'excited and curious' every time you see something labelled controversial.

A playthrough of one of the missions of "The Road to Montebourg" campaign.
I am almost only utilizing the interface for issuing orders (except for mandatory hotkeys like SHIFT+"Target Arc") so you can keep track of what I am doing and thus this is a great resource for new players try to understand how to play the game (and for what mistakes to watch out.)
Beside a collection of mods and shaders, there are movie soundtracks included alongside gameplay to help creating a gritty atmosphere.

    Have fun!

I think the statement about CMBB outselling CMBO is incorrect.
I recall comments from Steve saying that Yes CMBB had great sells from the true war gamer (those that tend to seek such games) but that they had more sells for CMBO from the casual gamer market which is and by far a much larger market and that is a majority a American market and they only buy games with American forces. Thus almost every game company will always start a series with a match up with American forces involved.
I also remember each game had less sells. CMBO outsold CMBB which outsold CMAF (between code issue and declining sells, that was what brought about CMII)
If CM3 does ever happen, it will be for similar reasons.
I have a hard time not believing each release is declining in sales. There is nothing to show any growth going on that I can tell.
and second, its already been mentioned in many threads as to the limits they have hit in this engine and that they re not going to be able to do much more with it.

So at some point those two things will fuel a change if the change ever happens.
So if enough keep buying and can live with the present capabilities of the current engine. Then maybe more past the list I mentioned could happen. But from what I sense, we keep losing more and more players to other things and more players keep expecting improvements that will never come under the present engine.  So sales will continue to drop til they bite the bullet and start again or they just say, time to retire.

Yes no one was assuming man, the word 'roadmap' isnt even the term Id have used, rather a term taken directly from Steves posts (above and years ago as well) about the future plans for the series.
No one, nor I, has claimed insider knowledge, but we.re all customers and ought to be able to express opinions or ideas where this is all headed.  I thought the time was overripe to discuss this (apparently someone else I dont know who opened an almost identical thread the same time as me) especially as now I feel Ive gotten more of a feel on how long its taking to release new modules and games -  and IMO it.d be sheer folly to still be making CMx2 modules in 2029 (and I desperately wanted the Ost Front finished)
    Thats all..

How do you figure? SF2 not being planned isnt even the true issue, its the engine. Lets not even count early games lets give BFC  5 yr head start and only count from 2011 with BN. Its almost an 8 yr old engine with THAT math and they still have stated theres modules for FI, FB, RT, BS, and now SF2.  I love their work and years and years ago I did think maybe the process would streamline and theyd punch out several modules out a year. Again Im not downing their ability to do work but it seems hindsigjht 20 20 and all that just the modules would take IMO another 4 or 5 years.
At what point will they put their efforts into a new engine that takes the best og x2 and really about 13 yrs of actual experience (because the engine really has been around since 06, I just named BN as probably the first really mature release of the x2 engine.) And add to it. Corners, rooms, basements, a lot of the stuff we.ve come to brick walls over.
Frankly I think, again IMO, that a decision needs to be made. Either start making an x3 engime and then do all future releases, or stick with x2 and minor, occasional moderate changes to the engine while the roadmap is finished.  ( and I could easily see that taking a decade, theres a seeming mission creep going on with the roadmap with massive unplanned diversions i.e. SF2)
I say minor to moderate changes to the engine as its been refined and tweaked for a lonnnng time now and Id venture to bet most of the biggest changes that could have been made have been thought of and or adressed, never mind statements the ladt few years about reaching the engines practical limits anyway.
Dont get me wrong I love the idea of SF2, though honestly Id rather have seen the WW2 titles and BS finished before any work had been done on it.  Still,  I feel the game series future is at a crossroads and one that needs to be adressed - Id love to hear everyones thoughts.

Found this grog goodie while investigating 6 pdr crew personal weapons. This says the brace of 6 pdrs at Arnhem Bridge deserve the principal credit for demolishing Grabner's valiant efforts to bounce the bridge. Please note engagement ranges for some instances of use. One lovely bit of info concerns the complete listing, by round type, brought in for these two highly successful ATGs

One of my CoC colleagues posted this, and I just got through watching it. Impressive work which answers a bunch of questions about this seeming Battle That Never Was (unless you're Canadian). Features a Grade One historical bombshell, too. So astounding you may think you're hallucinating. Found it most disconcerting myself. If you haven't seen this yet, MAKE the time.

It's a shame the British paras, for that matter, the British Army, have gotten so little love in the major war pic or series arena. Really hope they get the funding they need, for I believe those stories need to be told. What a shame there are so few WW II vets left to see the series, if sufficient money can be found. Maybe hit up Tom Hanks?

para reacted to Mord in Fare thee well, oh Repository
With the new site finally up we must take a minute to remember our old friend, the Repository, now relegated to the cold dark vacuum of cyberspace. Maybe not the prettiest of spots on the internet, that old ugly wench did her job in earnest, hosting some of the first and oldest of the new engine mods, maps and scenarios. She was the home to my first real endeavors into the modding arena (as ugly as some of them were) and she was the go-to spot before there was a go-to spot. Even though she was cast aside many a year ago for a prettier, younger Mistress, it was nice knowing she was still around if we needed her. And even though she was old, haggard, and hard to handle, she was there with her many forgotten (un-ported) treasures buried in a confusion of broken links and cyber-subterfuge waiting for a visit and a chat. Alas, she has finally and truly given up her ghost, along with many a mod (and perhaps) scenario that never made it to a shinier shore. So, as a new door opens, an old one closes and I say, fare thee well, sweet, ugly, PIA-to-navigate Repository, I salute thee for a job well done! You are gone but not forgotten...well, maybe a little.
And now a blatant and exploitative manipulation of your emotions...bow your heads and shut your mouths (especially you, Emrys, your Flea Deity commands it!)
