Anyone else having mortar/arty spotting/targeting problem?
cool breeze replied to Malakie's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Different strokes for different folks All arty has been dead on and devastating. 3 non precision point strikes at vehicles, 3 smoking wrecks wrecks. one big area fire mission hoping to hit a vehicle, one smoking wreck. 4 or so mortars strikes on the woods the infantry were attacking from, all on target. My auto nade launcher called for some of those while he was blasting away at em with the nades. I've been surprised how much better the arty seems to be working compared to CMF -
Oh and by buddy aiding you also save them from getting hit by more stuff which can kill them. So it doesn't just improve their chances at the end of the game wia to wia/kia conversion but keeps them alive until then.

Are you sure there isn't a 1/1000 chance or so that a red soldier will become yellow? I thought I might have seen it once or twice and I thought some other people said they might have too. LOVING THE GAME! THANKS BFC!

Yellow and Red Rectangles

"Inspiring Speech-er" is the main job duty of my HQ units, 'specially as the Italians. Keep em back to stand around next to the broken guys to get em back in the game. -
Slow command, spotting, and fatigue
cool breeze replied to stealthsilent1's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
it does model something, it models them keeping their heads down or hiding in a bathtub or whatever instead of peaking over bushes and ledges and windows. Its simple. I can hide in a building or a can observe from a building. Both ways I will be harder to spot that walking down the street or just standing or lying (hiding) in the gutter. But the same they are not. I will be much easier to see if I am looking out the window trying to figure out what's going on than if I am hiding in a bathtub occasionally peaking out of a mouse hole. The cover arc keeps them from shooting, the hide command keeps the from looking (mostly). because LOS is a two way street. > and about that strange hiding in the flat parking lot idea. the only way I can see to "hide" in a empty parking lot would be to cover oneself in trash, whish would degrade your spotting abilities. the other way is if it has the cement blocks. You'd lie behind the cement blocks whether hiding or not. but hide means get extra concealed and try to stay that way, which would mean you don't peak over the cement wheel blocks as much. so they can only see your backpack and legs and the top of your head instead of your whole face or at least the eye half of it. not much of an improvement in the hiding department, which is why its a bad idea.. now if there are cars to hide in or behind its a different story and hiding instead of observing will make you much harder to find. -
Suvorov/Rezun interview 2011 Juicy!
cool breeze replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
I meant that your sighting certainly does count in my book. It is the apparently instantaneous large changes in velocity that make them count as "real" UFO sighting instead of a plane or weather balloon or swamp gas, which are typical explanations (In my book... which I'm not writing btw). -
Suvorov/Rezun interview 2011 Juicy!
cool breeze replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
When I first got interested in UFO's, after seeing Peter Jennings Special Report: Seeing is Believing, I started asking people if they have ever seen a UFO. I got pretty convincing UFO stories from... I don't know, definately over 1/30 seemed like 1/10 people. The one you described is pretty much the typical, hardly counts if it doesn't do the extreme acceleration bits. -
CM Black Sea – BETA Battle Report - Russian Side
cool breeze replied to Bil Hardenberger's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
If he buys it he'll have to wait like everyone else if he sends his hackers they can steal it now P.S. Oh and amazing AAR, beyond top notch, raising the bar as usual. Can't wait to get my hands on the game. -
The Main Battle Rifle for the US Army
cool breeze replied to db_zero's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Interesting discussion. Seems to me both 7.62 and 5.56 have enough advantages to be a lot better than the other in the right circumstances. 5.56 is better when you need full or 3 round burst automatic fire and/or need to carry a lot of rounds on your person. 7.62 x51 is better when the range is long and or you need to shoot though cover, particularly if you don't need to man hump too many rounds. The advantages of 5.56 over 7.62 seem bigger to me for leg infantry than mechanized, because they have to walk with their rounds much farther and can't almost always just get more. I think over time the amount of small unit mechanized ammo transport, from full tank APCs like Israel is making all the way down to little robots with legs or tracks will continue to increase. I think we should take advantage of this trend of increasing convenient ammo transport by issuing a new full power rifle to line troops with their own ammo transports. So they would have two rifles. Not to carry them both with them but to use the better suited one. Rifles are cheap compared to soldiers, and having extra rifles around would reduce the logistical problems caused by having two types of ammo. Plus I just got a silly idea, inspired by CMBS. As we are driving to Moscow liberating eastern Europe, and there are all these young guys who want to join, we can just let 'em borrow one of the extras. jk jk I hate war -

If he had used the assault team to shoot too at closer range there would have been fewer casualties but it was a test.

3rd RTR lessons learned on ATGs

I keep hearing about this smokeless, flashless powder; but really how smokeless and flashless could it have been? seems like it still must have had plenty of both flash and smoke left or am I wrong? -
hunching forward seems better than lowering them to me, but best of all might be if their stance was tied to suppression. They could have 3 stances; cowering, ducking/hunched/ head-lowered, and spotting/fighting.

Killing Patton--anyone read it?
cool breeze replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Seems pretty fair of John Stewart to only bother spending the time to read the book for an interview when the author actually spent the time to write it. -
Highest compliments on a superb design

And here I was, before reading Hellas most recent post, thinking it was nice and thoughtful of Womble to make such a thorough reply. On further consideration I still think it was a nice post of him to make. True friends show their true freelings He was just honestly talking about his feelings in a helpful way. He is very passionate about this game and really wants BFC to spend their time on the egame in a way he feels will benefit him. After you both explained your positions so well, I agree with both of you. I agree with Womble that it is an idea better not implemented via code by BFC. I agree with you (Hellas) that steel mode is a cool idea that would be cool to play (but probably not by me). It seems like something that can be done entirely with self restraint and house rules in the existing Iron Mode. I would very much like to see an AAR or DAR of a battle played like that. -
It seems you might be fishing for a Monty Python joke about the spanish inquisition. Am I right? Anyway that response it too obvious. I'll go with one more to the point. The most important factor most important factor for the germans to have a successful operation was.... Not to have all their tanks blown up and men shot and or starved?

Finding the enemy with a strict ROE
cool breeze replied to AttorneyAtWar's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
And from a gamey perspective, I think the game scores that stuff with preserve objectives, and it takes a ton of bullets to damage a building enough that it is not preserved.
