Two Measly Rounds of Small Arms
JoMac replied to tankgeezer's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
Yeah, we all try to come up with things to try and rationalize game behavior... My suspension is that there is some sort of coding issue that's overlooked...Hmm, I wonder if it has anything to do with v4 and having troops break easier mid turn under small arms, and it's finding its way into Light/Open top vehicles. Joe -
I also seem to recall a few QB's in PBEM going into over time by a few turns. thou, now that I think about it it's probably, because I added 5 minutes to the original time :-/ Joe

From 1941 onwards, still too much to fill

Ahh, and even Partisans were in CMBB...Yes, those were the 'Good Ole' Days of one game fits all. -
Bren Guns firing single shots?
JoMac replied to General Liederkranz's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Listen, Erwin...(right)...This has nothing to do with your 'Wav Sound Theory'...You will simply notice that more rounds are being fired at short range, and less at long range, and were trying to figure if it's designed that way or a 'Bug' (my guess it's designed that way, and should be tweaked). -
Bren Guns firing single shots?
JoMac replied to General Liederkranz's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I still would imagine all v4 Games would be the same... Actually, I brought up this very same issue not to long ago when v4 CMBN was released (part of the v4 Upgrade), and did some quick tests. BAR & Bren around 100 meters seems to fire the normal 3-4 round bursts (or whatever it comes out to be), but around 150 meters it becomes 1-2 round bursts, then around 200 meters Single Shots. And actually, I don't mind the Single Round Shots at range (to conserve ammo due to small Magazine size), but prefer it to start around the 250 meters range (standard medium range Small Arms fire), and keep between 2-4 round bursts under that range...-Or-...(as you mentioned) keep the Single Shot at longer range, but when using the 'Area-Fire' Order, then these Weapons would fire between 2-4 round bursts (again, depending on range). Yes, I may also do some re-testing here at some point of all Automatics (including SMG, LMG & MMG/HMGs) at different ranges using 'Area-Fire', 'Light'-'Target', & AI Self Targeting, in both my BN & RT. -

Yes, BF might return to an earlier time frame of the Eastern Front one day, but that may be some years down the road. However, in the meantime there is a CMRT 'Stalingrad' Mod, and a '43 Winter' Mod available...Just do some forum searches to locate them. Joe -
Will Fortress Italy be back for sale soon?
JoMac replied to Eremitae's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Welcome aboard the BF Community...Your assessment is correct, and BF will release CMFI V4 when certain issues are fixed (which will be soon, hopefully). Joe -
Bren Guns firing single shots?

Ever since the V4 Upgrade, I always see smaller size Magazine type Auto Weapons like the BAR and Bren fire single shots starting just under the 200 meter mark. Bigger size Magazine or Belt fed Auto Weapons like the Browning 30 Cal, DP, etc, might also be firing at smaller bursts (compared to V3) at the above ranges, but i'm not quit sure (thou, it seems the LMG 34/42 hasn't changed compared to it's counterparts). How to path AI for quick battle.
JoMac replied to Mark_McLeod's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
Yes, Mc_Leod...I'll Get You my Pretty, and your little Dog too...Err, I mean, if interested in a CMFI Opponent, then let me know and will play up to Company size QB Meetings :-) PM me back...Joe -
That's because both games are different from one another...BN has different size Hedgerows along with small Hedges. However, FB only has Hedges (not Hedgerows), and Vehicles can Traverse across them. Joe

Think I remember someone mentioning a 'Campaigns Manager' (or somefink) for CMx2 not to long ago. It's suppose to allow a Player to alter Scenarios in a Campaign...Looking in CMMODs III but can't seem to find it (it's probably there thou). Any info would be appreciated... Joe

Now, Now...Be Nice and Patient :-)

Best way to clear upstairs of building.
JoMac replied to Mark_McLeod's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
No...There is a 'Combine Squad' Command (not a Combine Platoon Command) that simply allows you to combine 2-3 Teams (especially if several Teams are depleted) from same Squad to essentially form one big Team...This allows your Squad as a Whole to move in a tighter formation, instead of spread apart (as you would with 2-3 Teams operating independently in different Action Spots). Actually, I'm not sure if Squads 'Cower' alot more in V4 (maybe they do), but Fall-Back alot more in Mid-Turn (Tac AI tries to fall back out of sight of enemy, and into cover). -

If you split your Squad into an 'Assault Team', then generally the SMG's will be in that Team, and LMG's and more of the Rifles will go into the Support Team...Squads generally only have 1-2 SMG's anyways, unless some Para's or SMG Squads. Oh, and if you wait for the CMFI V4.0 Upgrade, then those stubborn German defenders will only need a turn of Small Arms fire before they start running out the building :-) Joe -
To elaborate a little on your first post; Also, what you are seeing is the Vets point of Aim is a little tighter (not widespread like Green Troops), and thus causing hit locations having a tighter grouping...This gives the allusion that the Game Engine is having Vets look for Weak-Points (not that they didn't at short range in RL).
-
Not sure, but I only play with Green Vehicles/Troops, and give different Soft Factors to represent if Green, Reg or Vet, etc in RL...I still hit pretty frequent with Green Tanks w/0 Motivation & 0 Leadership, unless moving or long range (If I miss the first turn, I surely hit consistant in 2nd turn). x3...I have always said that there needs to be a better Savings Roll for Passengers to represent ducking, etc...There needs something to combat the 'Bullet Magnet' effect.
-
I'm glad in the end you are doing well...Now, you Ole' Geezer, are you up for some CMBN by PBEM ?...If so, then PM me :-) Joe
-
Also, if the Mortar is in the process of Aiming or adjusting Aim (that process takes time before shell takes flight), then that might be a reason it doesn't fire when giving a move order in middle of turn. Joe
-
Actually, you are not to far off there, Wicky...CMx2 Soft Skinned Vehicle Crews tend to last longer then lightly Armored and can get in for close range support. Joe

Check back around X-Mas, and it should be completed...

Quality difference between this and CMFB
JoMac replied to Mark_McLeod's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Ok, McCloud...Just go ahead and get CMBN (along with Modules, and maybe Battle & Vehicle Packs) and CMRT now. This way you will at least have one Western Front and one Eastern Front game to play...Then, down the road get CMFI and CMFB. Joe -
Thought on fallback position
JoMac replied to delliejonut's topic in Combat Mission Final Blitzkrieg
I think RockinHarry is doing this or similar with one of his CMBN\CMFB created Scenario's for the AI... Joe -
To sum up what RepsolCBR has stated; "WEGO is the only way to go"

Ops..Yeah, I was actually joking around with that side comment Just wish BF would do something so that unbuttoned Crew have a better chance of survival (w/out actually having to fully button up) as they duck around abit against ranging Small Arms, etc (no animation)...This could be in a form of a better savings roll...Ofcourse, I wont start-up the "Bullet Magnet" syndrome debate either...But, anyways.
