  1. What are your coords, and I'll plot the fire directly to you
  2. ... anyone else having any luck at CMMODS? I'm getting "connection refused"...
  3. On ya mate. Now, in the middle of the night, you can say "I'll just go check Abigail" ... and your partner will be so exhausted she won't even notice that you're playing CM at the same time
  4. That's Ponyri Station - an awesome scenario, but unfortunately Walt has gone AWOL (Actually, the "GS" next to the "PS" is a balloon popup from my cursor being over the GS game, which is Gathering Storm, another good scenario!) [ February 12, 2005, 03:55 PM: Message edited by: GreenAsJade ]
  5. Woo hoo - all games status: wait. Now... where are my turns?? [ February 12, 2005, 02:30 PM: Message edited by: GreenAsJade ]
  6. Glad they're of some use. 1) Just had a look: the answer is yes: both Open and Grass are compatible. 2) CMAK/BB use different tiles for Open and Grass. Subtly different - if you take a look at the BMPs you'll probably see it. One set is a bit more textured than the other. Cheers, GaJ.
  7. Note: somehow all the feedback received in this forum is being classified as "Grog feedback". I ain't a Grog. I'm providing feedback. The feedback in this forum is from people passionate about the game though. Here's really where the trouble starts: something I like (say - being able to do my turns at a different time to my opponent) is at risk of going away, then I provide feedback that I wouldn't like that. Other people chime in passionately too, and BFC feel under seige. They needn't. All it is is people passionately communicating what people think about a game they really like. Of course, all this is hard to handle if you're on the other end of it, and BFC's bussines is making games, not handling passionate people on forums. It's good for us that they focus their effort on the former GaJ.
  8. Thanks Treeburst for the excellent information. Is it true, then, that a blind firing can be converted to a properly spotted one like Wicky says? That'd be great! I was thinking once it's blind it's always blind. If they can be converted, then instead of cancelling, why don't we simply move the target point on a barrage that has LOS blocked at 60s to another green-line place. This will add some more small amount of delay, and give the chance for the 60s spotting round to be re-fired and re-seen.... without starting again from scratch. Will that work? GaJ.
  9. Y'all know what it is and where to get it, I guess
  10. Just sent "Across OMG!!! Moltke". Just the Sanitorium to go (I'm still trying to find the abbot: where the heck is he?).
  11. Me too. They make great games, even if they have "robust exchanges" with their greatest fans
  12. Sorry, Steve, I don't think he did miss the point. I think you missed his. His point was that to engage in a sensible conversation about the next big thing, even poor ole Grog needs some context. You didn't tell him whether it was a hovercraft or matter transmission that you had in mind. You've started giving that context for CMx2, but you've also said you can't describe really what the revolutionary new game will be like because you're not telling your competition etc. In the absence of knowing what kind of game, in the broad sense, CMx2 will be, of course people have to refer to what they currently know. The alternative is the approach taken by Treeburst. Look how far that gets: no-where, because you can't confirm or deny whether that's the kind of game you want to discuss. GaJ.

  14. 1) Please dont start another 1/2 squad thread here. It's been done to death already. 2) I enjoy the banter and taunting with opponents who are inclined that way. When that's happening, there's bound to be a the possibility of propaganda. It's certainly not "gamey". Gamey means taking advantage of the way the simulation works in a way that's not at all realistic or intended by the designer. On the other hand, it is a slippery slope. Where's the line between fun part-of-the-game propaganda and obvious blatant lying? And if you get sprung lying, how will you handle it? These problems are the sort of thing you encounter when you play Diplomacy (anyone remember that?). I personally found in that game the sheer _necessity_ to lie made it not a fun game. People get hurt by lies, even if its "just part of a game". People don't like being taken in - the moment of realisation that you were duped is never nice. Is that what you want to be part of? Can you avoid it? ...
  15. (phew - CMMODs is slow today - everyone must be downloading your Panther _and_ Tarkus new UI!)
  16. McMMM doesn't mind - the user just has to do a little work on their own, renaming the optional BMPs if they want them (as they would have to do anyhow). Cheers, GaJ.
  17. Like I said in the other thread: if BFC make the mode of play availble, we'll deal with the file transfer...
  18. There are ways around this. You don't have to email the thing... put it up on a web site etc. As 'wolf said: give us the capability to play in "non simultaneous fashion" and we'll find a way to pass the files around. PBeM doesn't have to have the 'e' or even the 'M'. The heart of it is that I can do my turn at a different time to you. Since CMx2 is going to be revolutionary, there may be a revolution in just how that is acheieved... GaJ.
  19. So, then, Bro, what's going on in Hell? Vaiting Vaitin, and all that...
  20. It turns out the Gaj_High_Contrast_Snow, which you find in CMAK section of CMMODs, is directly compatible with CMBB. Make a copy from your CMAK Mods directory your CMBB Mods directory, fire up McMMM, and install it... (In fact, you can point McMMM at the CMAK one while you're modding CMBB if you really must). GaJ.
  21. It's funny that all this could have been so dfferent if Steve had _first_ said "we consider PBEM to be really important, and will try to fit it in" before saying "we can't guarantee it - it's not an absolute given". Steve _did_ say "we consider PBEM to be important", even though he prefaced that with other qualifiers. I'm just going to add "me too" to the list of people that said "include it, even if the files are huge". GaJ.
  22. Family come last (especially disrespectful young members who beat me mercilessly all the time)
  23. I thought that Mac users claim that Macs make their life so easy that a few minor irritations like receiving pbem.pbm wouldn't even make them blink
