  1. I'm guessing you'll give your players logical sets to choose from, ranging from "must have, to make this look right" to "nice to have if you're a total grog".
  2. I wonder why you don't do either? Since this is the case, how do you know what you'd prefer?
  3. ... and you can take heart from the fact that one Dirty Stug release can generate a thread of 10-20 oohs and ahhs, wheras I have to bump my own McMMM release threads
  4. My mistake - V4.21 is the new one, there is no V4.22 yet!! (Musta got ahead of myself!)
  5. Begone Sean. Go back to the thread where you belong. And at least read the threads that explain what's going on before moaning about it based on rumour. (nice quote, though)
  6. Thanks Larry - no complaints so far, so I think this beta is perhaps OK! Mikey: I think that the number pretty much doubled from ~1000 to ~2000 when V3 came out (IE the same people got a new copy). V4 is generating less additional downloads... I guess you'd expect that given the stage of the CM product lifecycle that we're at, and the fact that the version that lots of people have does pretty much what they need. If scenario designers start taking the opportunity to define Mod Sets for their scenarios, this may cause more demand for V4. It will be interesting to see, at this late stage, whether people can be bothered... GaJ.
  7. All the ole Play By Mail games were We Go. (Star*Web etc etc) The concept as such is not new. There is nothing new under the sun. The particular combination of TacAI, detailed movie playback etc came together particularly well for the first time in CMBO though.
  8. In a word: No. There are some scenarios that have been converted. You could search for "convert" and "CMBO" in this forum. GaJ.
  9. V4.22 uploaded to CMMODs. This version remembers your password for the current session for the most recent site (which is probably only ever CMMODS anyhow ). It does _not_ save your password anywhere on your PC. It just remembers it while it's running. If you're one of the 40-50 people who's downloaded the beta, can you let me know how it's going for you: if no-one is having any trouble (I haven't heard anything so far) then I can take the "beta" status off. Thanks, GaJ.
  10. FWIW I've stopped used the Scenario Depot as a place to read reviews, for the reasons that have been discussed at length elsewhere. When I get a scenario recommendation from somewhere, I pick up the scenario from the depot, but reviews ... nup: they're a waste of effort to plough through at the moment. Since I don't use them, I also have not bothered writing any more. I can see that designers would like some feedback (hey - I hate it too when I post something and get no feedback). This being the case, I'll try to be more disciplined about giving the feedback when I play the scenario. But I can tell you now: I'd be more ready to do that if I thought they were more useful than just providing feedback to the designer. GaJ.
  11. But you also said "no LOS tool in the 2D map." I agree with the relative spotting, Steve has said that relative spotting is in for CMx2, so presumably when a unit is selected only enemy units that are currently spotted by that unit will be shown. I'm talking more about the use of LOS tools, and the opinion of many (although not necessarily you) that the Mark I eyeball is the only proper LOS tool. However, I think LOS tools are needed to make up for graphics that will never (well, never say never) be as good as real life. </font>
  12. Drd: my proposal is that you would be able to see only what your unit can see, thereby removing the question of "can I see this or not". GaJ.
  13. The talk was about how it is implemented in the sense of "when a unit checks to see if it can see" (during the "movie" or "execution" phase). I've been wondering for some time about how you will revamp the way it is represented to the player during the "orders" phase. Have you considered making it so that the player can only see what your units can actually see in the 3D views, and you should not be able to ask about LOS at all in the 2D ("map" or "looking down on top") views (assuming these have nice contours etc in them). This would to two things: 1) Make LOS implicit in the way things are shown instead of an explicit "add on tool". 2) Go a long way towards making it more realistic: when looking through units' eyes, you see what the unit sees. When looking through the commander's eyes you see what he sees (a map with counters moving around on it). 'Forward!' he cried... GaJ.
  14. There's a teeny Mod called GaJ_Rattled or somefink that changes that strange red blob that never meant anything to me into red exclamation marks that make it clear a unit is having problems. I accidentally discovered that this works OK in Tarkus UI as well GaJ.
  15. One point: it obviously needs to remember your CMMODs password (at the moment you have to enter it each time). I will post an updated version that does remember within a day or two.
  16. (Excuse the self-indulgent fanfare. If I didn't do it, I don't know who was going to !) I have just uploaded McMMM V4.20 beta to CMMods. New features: </font> ** Mod Sets **: The ability to quickly define a group of mods that should be installed or uninstalled together </font></font>Mod Junkies: now you can easily swap from your "Normandy" set to your "Vietnam" set.</font>Scenario Designers: now you can easily tell players what Mods go really well with your scenario</font>(extra drumroll) Automatic download of mods you don't have. Yes - if the scenario designer has been kind enough to record the URL of the Mods in his Mod set, then McMMM will (if you want it to to) automatically download the Mods you don't have. No more searching through CMMODs with your browser!</font>[*]Revamped documentation, including screenshots </font> This release is "beta". This means that it's been tested by myself and some other kind folk, and we think it works. But it hasn't yet been widely used, so I can't be sure that it's completely free of quirks. I will make another announcement when I know it's stable. Meanwhile, please enjoy ... and let me know how it goes. Cheers, GaJ.

  19. Fatty: PBEMHelper gets the closest you can get to watching the movie: it can play each movie turn file (which it saves for you automatically) in turn.
  20. Now what was the point of that post, Dave? Tom stated facts that are known to everyone on this forum who's taken the trouble to follow the right threads...
  21. You probably know the deal with these by now. If you send me a nice picture, I'll upload it into the preview for everyone to see. GaJ.
  22. This is Barbed Wire with the colours adjusted so it's easier to see, while still looking like it is made of wood and wire. If you've ever been suprised that you missed a piece of barbed wire that a devious opponent hid in the fog on a piece of pavement or woods, this might help you. (Sorry, no picture... if you send me one, I'll upload it for everyone else to see!) GaJ.
