  1. I'll put a recommendation in for https://www5.sendthisfile.com/ even though my service with them will not improve... You don't even need to log in (though doing so lets you save commonly used e-mails to a drop down box), and it sends automatically sends an e-mail to your opponent when its uploaded. I'm sure there's a few sites like this around, I've tried a couple and sendthisfile.com is the easiest one I've found so far.
  2. Well yeah, but Egypt has enough Red kit mixed into the blue stuff to make it even more interesting: M1 Abrams T62 in storage according to wiki, but surely some rebs would free them:D) T54-5 Upgraded - close enough or better than Syrian standards YPR-765 BMP-1 BTR-60 BRDM-2 (according to Wiki)
  3. I think it is largely residual feelings from the French not being 100% supportive of the so-called 'war on terror' 100% after Sept 11. Remember 'freedom fries' and other such ridiculousness? There are a few more things, of course, but I'm sure that's where most of the recent French bashing comes from. My 'joke' was more aimed at the general tendency to French-bash than at the French themselves. The only thing I really have against them is their unfortunate ability to beat my team in crucial games in World Cup matches. Some of you will know what I'm talking about. Anyway, to get back on topic: I've just made a scenario of mirrored Red mech forces strictly for H2H play. If you have an opponent you want to try it out with PB me and I'll send it to you. Edit to add: no big deal with the scenario - I just used a stock QB map and rustled up a range of mech forces (BMP2,3,T72,T90) from the stock and Marines module
  4. I just finished a PBEM of Atlantic Games, CV90s vs M1128s - great fun. Once the shooting starts you soon forget which side you are fighting, and they just become 'the enemy'. It is disappointing that there are not more blue on blue match-ups. Probably the real reason for lack of blue on blue battles, is lack of a French side... Perhaps we need to set up an artificial political world as a milieu to give such match-ups more meaning? I remember that this was done for CMX1 as 'the onion wars' and the campaign continued for years - perhaps still going on? Such a campaign makes more sense for CMSF than for WW2 era stuff, simply because SF doesn't have the real world to draw on. So why hasn't this been done? Anybody have time and enthusiasm for something like this?
  5. Bodkin, Holy Cow, what explosion mod are you using?
  6. Actually an unlucky shot for me  The tank was immediately knocked out, no fire, no injuries. Can you imagine what it might be like crewing a tank if something like that happened? "Holy C###! WTF was that!?" It's hard to believe that there would be no serious injuries.
  7. Really? Is that for real? I don't think so, because you can see the modeling for yourself. Your little men run to the window and shoot. No window, no shooting. I thought this was the whole point of one-to-one representation. But correct me if there is an element of abstraction in this.
  8. The problem with 'search' is that it pulls up a lot of random issues that have everything to do with the word that you are interested in, but nothing to do with the specific question that you are trying to answer. You get all these irrelevant results because maybe you haven't used quite the right key word or you are being too general. So you make the search more specific and then you get nothing, and then you try again and it tells you you have to wait before you do another search because it is too soon and yada yada yada. It takes up so much time to search through all the results that actually its a lot quicker just asking the damn question. I've never had much luck with the search function on this forum. Sure, if you stick around the boards as I do, and Gibsonm does, you get sick of seeing the same questions asked, but given the frustrations of the search function, I understand why simply asking is the method many continue to use. So, Gibsonm, if the answer is easy to find using the search system, could you do us a favor and post a link to the discussion? And if you take more than say 5 minutes to find the answer by searching, could you perhaps just post the answer? This approach might raise less hackles than your earlier reply. Just trying to be helpful, mind.
  9. In a PBEM recently, the move ended exactly on this frame: My poor lil' leo getting smoked by the M1128. I guess it found the weak spot just underneath the main gun and punched all the way through. Is this possible? I suppose that once it penetrates the weak spot there's not much to stop it going out the other side, but I would have thought that it would be more likely to happen with the higher velocity guns than the M1128's 105mm.
  10. Interesting! But wouldn't the driver have a good chance of spotting the shermans? He doesn't have the optics, but I would expect him to notice the flash and then bang of a 75, even if it is a couple of km away. Unless of course the Tigers were hull down.
  11. Awesome! Could you let us know which ones (if any) would be suitable for H2H play?
  12. Fantastic read from both sides. I vote this the screenshot of the thread so far: Brilliant! This should be on the cover of the box.
  13. Actually, I remember that this happened in CMBB, and that it was a bug then that eventually got fixed. Not saying that this one is too, just that gunnersman has perfectly reasonable grounds for asking the question.
  14. Sounds like you did a good job on her then! Ouch. At least my wife doesn't mind me playing the games, just a wry "Killing again?" or "More war?" I tell her that its about the history, but somehow she fails to see this point of view... Okay, time to get back to the topic of this thread, eh? Really enjoying it.
  15. The cunning wile of the female at work, I fear... I wonder how long their interest was maintained after the relationship ended, eh? I'm guessing they didn't become military historians...? (sorry, don't mean to be rude, but probably failing)
  16. Clicky? Its not that much different from attaching to e-mail. I've bookmarked this page then its just browse - select + add the address (which you can select from a drop down menu). When it comes to downloading a game, you click on the link in the e-mail, then its download file. Use the firefox tool "save link in folder" and you can send it straight to your CM inbox. There's not many more clicks than using e-mail, unless someone has a faster method.
  17. Yeah, that was eye opening. Not sure what it will mean in terms of game play, or computing power. And this with maps up to 16 by 16km???!!!
  18. Restrict yourself to three specific aspects that you are looking forward to the most. For me: 1. Review map before starting a PBEM 2. Quickbattle unit selection 3. Kill stats These stood out as I read the feature list, but once they are down on paper they seem rather twee by comparison to the rich detail on offer. Back to fresh fields of green, this time with little flowers!
  19. Well, I could have if you had the punctuation correct...
  20. There once was a game called combat mission That was trying to release a new addition But the time it took was so long, And many thought it’d go wrong, But others knew it was BFT's tradition.
  21. - no problems; I hope tyrspawn tries it out. Does anybody else have a good time saving setup for dealing with PBEMs? I'm pretty sure my setup is as efficient as it gets, but I'd be interested in finding out how others do it.
  22. Dude! You can make it really easy for yourself. 1) Put shortcuts to the Incoming and Outgoing Folders on your desktop, then you can access them really quickly. 2) Put a shortcut to Incoming within the Outgoing folder and vice versa, just for convenience. 3) the best one of all: use firefox with the add on save link in folder This allows you to assign your incoming folder as a destination. Then you can right click the pbem file that you're downloading and it will save it directly into the incoming folder. See? Nothing is more than a click away! No Excuses! [Credit goes to Sergei for pointing out the fantastic addon]
  23. You are thinking along the same lines as BFT, as they have mentioned that CM:SFII will feature modern armies from Russia and China as well as modern western ones. I'm looking forward to this. But an older, historical NATO vs USSR cold war battle is something that I would prefer. Modern stuff is so precise, it doesn't leave much to chance. For example, try advancing into the face of a prepared stryker force and you'll find yourself obliterated by javs. And modern tanks are fire once, hit once. But go back a few years and you have more of a contest. Early wire guided missiles were not as accurate, and the heavy metal match ups are intriguing: centurions, challengers, pattons, sheridans, leopards, the occasional m103 vs T54/55s, the odd T10, and the more modern T-62,64,72 (without mentioning lighter armor matchups). Cold war, anywhere between 1950-80 encompasses a fantastic array of weaponry. Who could not be entranced by the prospect of such engagements?
