  1. Hey, if there is a PBEM in progress, and one or both players update to 1.30, will you be able to continue the game? Would be grateful if someone could check...
  2. damn it.... ..trying to stay... ....up but.... ... time to hit.... the sack....
  3. Only the pre-orders can download it seems. Digital dl only does not seem to be an option yet.
  4. Was that done with a new link? The page on the link that I use above still goes to the version with 2 page 8s... Maybe its something to do with what's now stored in my computer's cache or something of that nature...
  5. I thought this worthy of a separate thread, so any other errors in the NATO manual can be quickly found and corrected. Also, would like to put in a request for a 'print friendly' version so that we can save our precious printer ink on the current dark background
  6. In a current PBEM I was shocked to see one of my regular British infantry units carrying a javelin in the ammo. I thought the only way to get was to acquire erroneously from a vehicle, but then I looked at the equipment list and, lo and behold, there was the CLU. So it appears that the javelin at least can be picked up by non-javelin specialized infantry units. Not so sure about other heavy weapons though. This capability might be a hangover from the Stryker units in the core game, or might reflect that the javelin is simple enough to be used by everyone. Whatever, its a better a clueless CLU user uses a jav than leave $100,000 in equipment lying around the battlefield, right?
  7. Nice video! Real frenetic battle going on there. You should probably leave the titles on screen for a bit longer though - blink and they're gone! Question: whats that thing that lobs onto the leopard at 1:40 or so? Maybe a missile from a different tank than the Syrian one in the foreground? Doesn't do much damage though.
  8. CM: kNocking the Noxious Nazis from Normandy or CM:NNNN
  9. These forums are as good a place as any. Do you want to start one? I'll PM my e-mail. Another place is world at war where you can play ladder games, but maybe this could be considered 'competitive'.
  10. .. and have you tried PBEMing? That was the other part of the sentence...
  11. What do you mean by 'in general'? If you are asking on this forum you will get generally positive replies, naturally. If you ask the general public you will be hard put to find anybody who has heard of it. Asking the question seems to me like an exercise in futility. I don't know what kind of answer you expect. So, most people here - me included - will tell you its a great game because we hang out here because we enjoy the game. But most people not here have never heard of the game and so can't tell you anything about it. Strange? Common sense to me. The best way to find out is to install the demo and try it out. But I put it to you that you will not find out the true joys until you play H2H. So, if you are really cautious, just buy the base game and start a PBEM and see how it goes. If it grabs you, get the rest of the modules. If not, forget about it.
  12. Nah, mate, had you covered However, you sound more open minded than most
  13. I would expect that the answers in this thread will be mostly positive since after all this time those who were pissed off with CMSF would have either given up checking these boards or been banned outright. Of course there are still a few mopers who only come here to knock the game because they were disappointed that it wasn't a WW2 game... which I find rather bizarre. As the latest WW2 version is in the offing, I expect that a few more of this kind of person to emerge from the depths of the CMx1 boards, to be here, lurking for news of CM:N, and who knows, may even make an appearance in this very thread (if we're lucky). But apart from them, positive with a few "apart from..." and "except for..." -type criticisms (like the QB system and the lack of kill stats for example). Go on, somebody, prove me wrong! Edit to add: I will quickly say that those who were banned were kicked out for personal criticism and other objectionable behaviour rather than for simply being negative about the early versions of the game.
  14. No probs, Stoex. I'll be watching out for that 2-tube-heavy-short-personnel mortar strike. It might take longer, but I probably won't see it coming. In fact I'll probably be hanging out near the parados when it lands.
  15. Are you not familiar with this use of the word? I am a CMSF player; do you claim to know about military history?
  16. Crikey! Is it safe to come out yet? <peeks head over parapet>
  17. Erwin was quicker to the punch by 2 minutes, but in that extra time I included the link.
  18. GreenAsJade's for variety (though yes, the repository on this site is bigger) But what about the eye candy? CMSF is much prettier, it has one to one representation of troops, and every bullet is tracked. Much more abstraction in CMBO, CMBB and CMAK. Also, in CMSF you can play Red on Red, whereas in CMX1 its only allies vs axis And some more stuff besides the obviously different (time periods etc).
  19. Okay, TylerF, I'll take you on. Check your private messages for my e-mail.
  20. The quick battles have long been recognized as being a bit too random to get a decent game. If you must play solo you are much better off playing scenarios and the campaigns that came with the game, and there are a ton more on the repository and at http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/ But really, if you want to play the game in the best way possible, take on a human opponent via PBEM.
  21. Jeez, how many times have I played? And I never noticed it before... I suppose its necessary to ease the load on the CPU
  22. This is not a bug, I'm just curious about what is going on in a current PBEM I'm playing. Here we have a two soldiers giving buddy aid to two wounded soldiers. Yeah I know one of the aiders is headless, its a bit spooky but in these situations I guess you get help from anyone who'll give it... Anyway, a few seconds later, one of the wounded soldiers vanishes from view: Now, the number of soldiers in the room did not change, so he did not get up and walk away. Where did he go? What's going on? Does the disappearance represent evacuation? Will he be counted as dead, wounded or missing in action in the scoring at the end?
