  1. Although I am in agreement with the common sense approach that disallows interception with low strength Fighters, I have to again present the aspect that in wartime sometimes common sense get overruled...... Damn it..Imagine that! A perfect case for the selection menu of "intercept" to override the "auto" selection in a scenario where the owning player wishes to place his fighters at risk.
  2. I would present that the Persian Gulf to Red Sea loop would be active for Axis/USSR only if the MidEast had been conquered. Would allow aircover for the entire route. Hard to envision the Allies not having control around the Cape throughout the conflict with their navies/bases.
  3. StefMan, what was the West's disposition while you were following this strategy?
  4. I won't point out the blatant lessons of life this series of posts refers to. Rather I'll remind you that unlike SC, in life you can't reset the clock and go back to start over.
  5. Has anyone tried going through, not DOWing Poland, diplo/DoW Bulgaria, Romania into USSR first? Will this leave the West out? Perhaps even leaving the Czech alone to keep WA readiness down? I've done the Demo and it is easy to get France out early then taking all of Western Europe leaving the Soviets alone with Americans impending. I would think that with all, excluding a small garrison in the West, the Axis strength focused on USSR, they would go down by 43 easily.
  6. Laffer, welcome to SC. If you are becoming frustrated learning the mechanics then let me make a suggestion. Its better if you figure things out for yourself but if one of the many Vets here would volunteer to play a PBEM or TCP game, they could lead you along and get you up to speed pretty quickly. I've found that a nuB vs vet substantially decreases the learning curve and also serves to introduce you to the premier dynamic of SC, H to H play. Of course you can keep on asking questions here, it'll just take a little longer since we can't specifically detail what your game environment is, there are so many variables.
  7. Lars...have you talked to this guy lately? SM lives to love....err...I mean Fight  another day.
  8. On second thought, JJ, that consequence/price may be too high, thermonuclear war???? Yeh...maybe....Belay that request Bill, we don't want young'ins like those above getting too comfortable with any kind of thoughts of nuclear conflict. Conventional is so much more civilized!
  9. OK ....Damn it.... that does it. I nominate Bill Macon, aka pzgndr to make the DoD campaign. Bill......it is high time you put your skills to work and get paid for it. Hubert...I beseech you, assist Bill in whatever code support he may need. You too Edwin....you're not without responsibility here. Imagine it...Days of Decision, SC style, the new 20th Century Flaming Earth campaign. The asking price is of no consequence....it will be paid.
  10. SBing from anywhere the opportunity presents itself. Cut the rails ... cities/ports<50%efficiency...no operating forces into the area, no escaping through the ports. No supply unless HQ is directly on city. "Lure them near with a crust of bread, then crush their little heads."
  11. Hubert I went to the display tab for the DirectX Diagnostic tool, but unfortunately there is no selection to disable the DirectDraw Acceleration. Searched around for another way to get that done without success.....any suggestions, I'm running Vista. It seems my Geforce 8600M GT graphics card does not allow changes to the hardware acceleration settings. Perhaps if I move the slider to Performance away from Quality in my 3D settings? 12. The last paragraph is the essence of this post. There is no standard strategy, your biggest mistake, IMO, you have already concluded the remedy. I'll not profess to be an expert, but in reference to USA strategy, I would do both. Awaiting the proper force configuration and recognizing that probably(depends on Axis commitment in USSR) most of the Axis forces would be in Egypt(attempting the UK knockout), a diversion, recon in force into West Africa comes first. Not only would you draw away Axis attention you would gain the additional USA naval assets, by DoWing Spain. A contingency force organized as either an Egyptian deployment or reserve force of exploitation for West Africa would also be in order to coordinate with any possible Axis developments. If you have an adequate USA airforce, keeping some in the build Q for deployment at no MPP cost, then you can operate them back and forth from each theater, west to east in Africa to support both your actions. You know I'm an advocate of Strategic Bombing. There's no better way to isolate a battlefield from enemy manipulation then to reduce his supply to that area. If successfully prosecuted it will grind his operations to a hault.
  13. How about a map image? We understand its a work in progress. Hmmm...on 2nd thought, perhaps not......I can see this forum explode with criticism. Moi inclusion!
  14. The worst thing to do to a user friendly piece of software is to try and evolve it into something the base code wasn't written for. Better to start over.
  15. Logic projected historical conjecture dictates the UK capital moves to Canada. You have the choice.
  16. Definition breeds clarity my good a234, always obliged to help simplify the process of decision making. I have to agree with logic, its apparent that unlevel obstructed tiles yield a greater opportunity to not construct an AB, but it can be done to a limited extent. No M&S basing. There might have to be some adjustments in the map geography or it will again change strategies(minimize). Not alot of basing is going to happen in places like Turkey. How about adjacent to an engineer unit(entrenched?) or in a constructed fortification signifying a built airstrip? [ May 10, 2008, 09:05 AM: Message edited by: SeaMonkey ]
  17. Usually the original regime doesn't return to its native capital until after the war is over. The logistical requirements and supporting wartorn infrastructure precludes establishing an optimum functioning government. And during war....you need an opti....oh well you get the point.
  18. You know this really is a good point. I know that a tile includes what,.. like 2500 square miles. You would think that in that vast expanse that enough grassy, flat areas could be improved to support an air group within the confines of an SC turn. So what do you think, let's use the SC figures with historical facts. At maximum deployment of serviceable aircraft we'll round the Luftwaffe to 4000 planes, this includes transports. Now we can have as many, with the hard build limits, 12 air units and 3 FJ, 2 FJ if you don't build them right away, so 14 total. 4000 divided by 14 = 286 aircraft per SC unit, based and supported in a 2500 square mile tile? Sound outrageous?
  19. How about with the successful conclusion of Sealion and possible armistice with UK, there are the following choices. 1. UK moves Capital to Egypt as it is now and continues war, no possible lendlease from USA. Germany receives little plunder, partisans as is. Spain gets enormous diplo move to Axis side. 2. UK moves Government to Canada with USA help to rearm. Germany receives greater plunder, but Spain hesitant to join Axis, partisan activity greater. 3. UK signs armistice and assumes neutral status with slow escalation of re-entry(two years min.) into Allied camp (dependent upon Axis further aggression). Germany gets greater plunder plus MPP resources from Commonwealth every turn after evacuating "The Isles". Kriegsmarine gets supply from CW/UK ports until re-entry. USA lendlease level dependent upon % UK leaning back to Allied status. Too complicated? Adjustments?
  20. You know if you think about this, most Pacific Island chains were a collection of atolls spread out across hundreds of miles. Just make a string of connected island tiles with a centralized port in a somewhat simulated configuration of that group's geography. Then your opponent will have a variety of invasion points to choose from.....of course only if he exercises good recon.
  21. Which brings up a good point for continuing a game past the point of necessity. You make some interesting notes for the future from being on the defensive. Nice game guys.
  22. Exactly my recommendation before, but unnecessary if we can get a "beach" tile.
