  1. Hello Jack! What is this 'specific objective flag' exactly? Uhu </font>
  2. I also noticed this but chalked it up to the 37mm, 40mm and 50mm main guns being used by the tanks in the scenario.
  3. I tried to mimic the scene with the tanks in a scenario. The outcome was...interesting. Soviet attack with specific objective flags in a factory and trench complex. The Germans get points if they exit troops off the map. It was a tough play. I like the movie better than the scenario. I still play around with trying to design one like it but although CMBB is a great game, it wasn't designed to handle individual soldiers/personalities.
  4. How did the Brits carry all that ammo? Bad luck old chap.
  5. I have them all now. I considered removing CMBO but decided to keep it on for nostalgia reasons. My hard drive capacity is more than sufficient to keep CMBO on the machines.
  6. Hey listen, don't sweat it. I was a little upset that I couldn't select the Muslim SS with their "Death's Head" emblazoned Fez's in CMBB but what are you gonna do? This is probably an easy switch out mod. Just pull up the BMP's for faces and hands and darken em up for a scenario. The fez mod would be alot more complicated.
  7. I believe early war russians behave one quality level lower than their rating. </font>
  8. Indian units? African units? You mean the French colonial troops? Senegalese soldiers?
  9. It seems that when I play CMAK against an American AI, with basically the same parameters as vs the Soviets in CMBB, the American armor reacts much quicker and more intelligently than their Russian counterparts. For example, popping smoke, shoot and scoot, finding alternate routes of attack/advance. This situation with experience levels being equal. I understand that the terrain would differ in the various QB's but overall I am detecting faster reacting, smarter tankers. On occasion I like to set up a game where the attacking enemy is pure armor at 1250 points with the attacker getting a +50% bonus. I have a single Tiger IE Crack or Elite experience. The Americans tanks range from green to veteran (veteran is rare). I often find myself "bailing out" before turn 7 with few kills to show for it. The same situation with the Russians, I can last almost double the number of turns while racking up 7+ kills before having to "bail out". The Americans usually have a mix of Sherman variants with some Stuarts thrown in while the Russians have mostly T-34/85's with some IS-2's and SU-76's thrown in. Has anything changed in the game engine to cause this or am I hallucinating this seemingly more intelligent AI tanker behaviour?
  10. I sincerely doubt the Soviets had anything akin to the US Chaplain. Does anyone know if the Germans used them? I think they did (Movie Stalingrad?). If so, were they assigned to specific units? Were they combatants first and religious second?
  11. I think I started this thread once before way back. I am curious as to your favorite QB parameter settings. That is if you have a favorite setting. Mine are: Me: Axis defender - Armor - Heer or Waffen SS AI: Soviet Attacker - Armor - Guards or Infantry Village/gentle slopes/moderate foliage Weather: Clear at dawn or dusk 1250 points with a +50% Allied balance 1944 - Somewhere in 1944 Happy posting!
  12. Yeah this would be really nice. Keep everyone informed Eich! Thanks.
  13. Good point. Sometimes the men may look like they should be able to pull something off but because of this "abstract" situation the reality is they might not. I have learned to offer these frustrating times up to luck. Not easy to do because you think that you are in control, after all, you are issuing the orders. A good way to look at it is the physical game representation of the combat squad. 9+ men are represented by an animated BMP of three men running around. Well...where are the other 6? They are there but spread out and probably in various states of readiness. I think many CM situations are abstracted, especially when it comes to infantry. It's kind of a tough situation because the armor seems to fight in a less abstracted way. When you see infantry incapable of performing something you put them in a position to do, you have to say, "Oh well. I'll try again next turn if they survive and the situation still requires it."
  14. My experience with grenade bundles is that the tank hunter team should try to get within 25 meters before they will use their bundles. I think 30 meters is too far away. It's that last 5 to 10 meters that are dangerous because they usually have to expose themselves in order to get the job done. Risky business. I have found this to be one of the most fun and exciting parts of the game. For the men who were assigned this task they probably wanted to vomit before they set out to do it.
  15. Pawn, Try downloading some of the excellent winter mods for some of these vehicles. You'll be glad you did. It adds a whole new element to the game.
  16. I got CMAK yesterday and I am here to say that, although I enjoyed CMAK very much, most of my time will be spent on the Ost Front. There have definitely been some improvements in CMAK but not enough to merit abandoning CMBB. Actually, that says alot for the designers at Battlefront.
  17. Thanks for this mod. I downloaded this and am using it over the last one that I had. Great work. Looks really good in game.
  18. Got mine today. I love the dust and dirt kicked up by the vehicles. I spotted enemy armor moving in from the other side of town just by the dust they kicked up. I only wish they could do this for the Ost Front (CMBB).
  19. Downloaded and applied this one last night. Looks great! Thanks again.
  20. I pre-ordered three copies of CMAK. Combat Mission makes a great Christmas gift. None of this x-box or playstation game nonesense. If you've got a PC then your getting CMAK for Christmas.
  21. Jesus, you are a helmet. I was trying to explain why some people might feel that way. Clearly you can't respect their right to have a different point of view, and I have no more to say to you on the matter. Take it to the General Forum if you want a flame war. </font>
  22. I wouldn't disagree that the tactic can be effective, especially if your tanks level buildings that did have infantry in them. My question here is simply, "Was this a common practice?" I have already read some posts which quoted from various books where veterans said that it was done. Once this information is presented, the question is answered for me. The next time I see a building I suspect may hold enemy units, It's coming down. Also, just noticed that your post also questioned the civilian aspect. Good question.
  23. Quick question for all who are replying to/following this thread. In most instances were villages cleared of non-combatants before a fight? If not, your "wrecking-crew" tankers are killing civilians. Would the Western Allies have done this? Perhaps they would have. I honestly don't know. The question is not meant to make a point, I just really don't know. Anyone have any information on this?
