How do i win "Cemetery Hill"?
Jack Carr replied to mrcoffee's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I designed a scenario that is a little easier on the German attacker but similar in style to "Cemetary Hill". It can be found at the Scenario Depot: http://www.dragonlair.net/combatmission/ It's called "Defending the Dead". Check it out if you get the chance, under CMBB scenarios. I still like to go back and play it myself from time to time. I have never won it because I always run out of time before reaching the single objective. One thing that I thought I did well when I designed it was the map. The map is really neat. If any of you download and play it, let me know what you thought or leave a review on the site. Thanks folks! -

LOL! Good one! I got my head handed to me the first time I played it as well. I have never gone back to that horrible place since then. -

Ditto. I'd rather hear distant artillery explosions and distant small arms fire than chirping birds. Rain, leaves and wind effects I don't mind but when chirping birds come to the forefront, I've got a problem. Even birds are smart enough to "bug out" when the s**t hits the fan. -
Listen chief, it's really quite simple. The original post by Alexei asks: "Were Tiger II's really that bad when encountering JSII's?". The website talks about a one-sided encounter in which the Soviet JSII's mop up against a counter attack by King Tiger's. It also states down the page a ways that the victory described on the page was not due to the superiority of the Russian tank but the inferiority of the German tactics. Someone else posted that the German 75L48 kills JSII's. Ok...so far so good...All I simply said was if the King Tiger was a failure because of it's inability to take on the Russian heavy tank than the JSII was just as bad because of its inability to take on the German medium. To which you replied, "No tank is invulnerable." ??? Help me out on this one. To top it off, suddenly I'm the rude guy.
-
No tank is invulnerable. A "well placed" shot can be disastrous, regardless of a tank's armor - every tank has weaknesses. I don't think I'd write off the JS-II because of this... </font>

This webpage made for some great reading. It does state further down on the details link that the German loss was not due to the inferiority of their vehicle but the inferiority of their planning coupled with good Russian defensive setup and planning. As was stated in this thread, a well placed 75L48 penetrates the IS-2's armor with deadly effect. Is that realistic? If so, than the IS-2 was no less a failure than the King Tiger.

I downloaded these sound mods but have not applied them. I did not have the time to check out the wav files that came with the game. What is the difference between your modded wav files and the stock? Thanks -
These are sweet! Looking forward to downloading these in the near future. God Bless!

Hi-res wheat mod posted
Jack Carr replied to Tanks a Lot's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Thanks for this mod. Much improved over the stock. -
Correct. That is a drawback. I currently have two 512mb modules of PC2700. Can't use the third slot because of this limitation. If I ever upgraded to a AMD XP 3200+ and wanted to keep the memory up to speed I could only use one stick in this motherboard.
-
Thanks for the advice. The motherboard I was considering is $146 which makes it even worse. Also, I've been doing some reading and this is not as easy as it would seem. There is a good chance that I would have to blank my hard drive and reinstall the operating system in order to successfully make the transition to the new board.

Looks great! Thanks.

I'm considering a motherboard upgrade for my machine. My current board is an ASUS A7V8X. My processor is an AMD XP 2800+ Thoroughbred 2.25ghz 333 bus. My motherboard bus is 266. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of upgrade? Being that the bus on the MOBO does not keep up with the processor and the RAM, PC2700 also 333, can I expect to see an appreciable performance boost of any kind? Thanks

A Mod request for killer IS-2 camo pattern
Jack Carr replied to Panzer76's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Have to agree on that point. The whole series of mods that were done as "Total Re-Work's" were fantastic. When it moves across the screen it's like a masterpiece. Looks great! -
New Hi-res watery marsh mod
Jack Carr replied to Tanks a Lot's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Very nice swamp. Looks better than the original. I like the concept of high-res mods. I have seen requests for low-res doodads and understand that if you have a PC that is a little low on horsepower this helps. My PC has no problems with graphics. I love the high-res, detailed stuff. It really makes playing that much more enjoyable. -
Pz III & IV versus the M4 Sherman
Jack Carr replied to Colonel Warden's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
I think this is why you lost so many tanks so quickly. As was already pointed out in a previous post, the Shermans picked up slope while you lost some. I find that whenever a tank is targeting an enemy vehicle that is uphill, it seems to have a hard time getting in hits, never mind doing damage. Anyone else experience this? -
*!!TWO Total From-Scratch camou Hetzer Mods!!*
Jack Carr replied to MikeyD's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
These are great! Thanks! Anyone have any idea how many of these were produced during the war? Were they widely used by the Wermacht? Probably not as many Hetzer's as Stug's. -
I like the bogies you created for this vehicle. They look much more realistic than the stock wheels. Thanks!

This is one of the nicest terrain mods I have ever seen. Ranks up there with the best of them. Thanks!
