  1. I'm surprised that no one mentioned MacArthur. His troops knew the Japs were coming (in the Phillipines) yet they were woefully unprepared when they did. Then he went to Australia to make an nusance for the next three years. The fighting in New Guinea was a slugfest that didn't have to be. The reconquest of the Phillipines was a disaster. He had Yama****a outgunned, outnumbered, outsupplied, outeverything except for brains. He was vain, stupid and a politician more than a general.
  2. Folks, I'm having a problem in a game. I have a forward arty observer who has targeted a trench area. The artillery has been hitting the trench for a turn and know, want to stop the shelling and advance my troops. However, when I go to the FO to order the shelling to cease, there is no option to stop or even to retarget. Only options for moving the FO. Can someone help me with this?
  3. Thanks for the reply. I'm running 98 2nd edition, directX 6.1a and driver 4.11.01.6224. I'm going to upgrade the directX (yikes thats old) and the ati driver. See if that helps. If not, I will try and play with the color versions.
  4. I'm having a problem that doesn't appear in the troubleshooting guide. I have a Windows 98 machine with an ATI Rage 128 video card. I have had a repeated problem while I'm in the orders mode. I'll be placing an order to a unit and the screen will minimize itself and go back to the Windows desktop. When I click on the minimized game to bring it back, the screen looks like it tiles the lower third of the screen repeatedly. All the colors turn Grey and the screen is locked. I still have keyboard control because I can control-alt-delete twice to reboot the machine but all video control appears to be lost. Can you help me out? This problem is happening very frequently. It doesn't have any sort of a temporal relationship. I could reboot the machine, go back in and run the game and it would lock right back up Or it could let me play for 30 minutes before locking up. I'm running CMAK and it's been patched to the latest version.
  5. Excellent responses. I had not considered the death clock before. In fact, I remember the Sherman stopping and continuing to blast away until it finally caught on fire. Probably was already dead. I now realize that I need to get height on the Shermans and employ better tactics instead of direct confrontation. Thanks for your help. One question, why and how does CM penalize the PzIVs for being hull down. Just curious.
  6. I'm going to sound like a total rookie here but what the hell. I (Germans) just played a game against the AI (Americans) in CMAK (Medjez in '42). I totally got my butt handed to me. I got into a number of shootouts (at 500m) between my Pz III Ls and IVGs and the Shermans and lost everyone. I would get a number of hits on the Shermans but no kills. I started losing tanks without making doing any damage. The only thing that I was suspicious of was the fact that I was slightly down slope from the Shermans and that this could have had an impact. I looked at the armor penetration tables and it looked like the IIILs and the IVGs have a similar penetration at 500m as the Sherman. Could not figure out how the Shermans became super tanks. I even got a couple of Tigers late in the game. One of these closed on a Sherman at 200m and proceeded to take four shots before it could knock out the M4.
  7. I think it would depend on the situation. Standard doctrine was probably to stop at a safe covered distance and drop your troops from the HT. This is probably the case with the standard Army units. However, there were probably instances of troops on special operations where they road right into the objectives on their SPWs. This was not a standard practice but was probably considered worth the risk in some odd circumstances. I would think that a Wehrmacht officer would hesitate to risk his transport especially if he needed it to retreat the next day as was so often the occurence from 1943 and on.
  8. In response to Kingfish: I should have mentioned that none of my tanks has LOS on any target at the beginning of the turn. They were all popping the the crest of a rise and opening fire on the AI selected targets. So, I could not target the Grants. After reading Slappy's response, I guess that this could simulate real life. After all, your tank gunners may have have a couple of seconds to make a decision and they don't know what the other gunners are decided. You might have one gunner go after a Stuart thinking it's in his lane and you might have another gunner target the same one. If the game simulates real life then may be this is now it works. If I replay the turn, maybe the tanks will make different decisions. Maybe I'll try it and see how the AI reacts.
  9. I'm new so please excuse this if it's stupid. I'm playing "Blenhiem Blunder (armor only)" as Germans against the AI. I have snuck up four IVEs and two IIIJs into a draw on the left flank of the British armor with the intention to spring an ambush on the large cluster of Stuarts and Grants. I think I'm in a good spot and send all six tanks up to spring the ambush. What happened was very surprising. My tanks ended up shooting up the Stuarts (eight KO) and two armored cars but failed to target the Grants that were mixed into the group. I know that you are suppose to used the cover arcs to pick out specific targets but it looks like my tankers went for the easy kills (Stuarts) instead of going for the bigger threats (Grants). I had two Grants turned away from me with their flanks exposed and they didn't get targeted. Are there any alternatives here. Any way to tell the gunners to target the real big tanks and ignore the ones with the little squirrel guns.
  10. Thanks for the welcome and the responses. How is the T type of shell choosen? I assume that this is an AI type of function as well.
  11. Folks, Just purchased CMAK and I'm completely amazed. By far the best war game I've every played. In fact it's what I've dreamed of in a war game. I have a stoopid question on the game on ammo selection. I'm playing Blenhiem Blunder (armor only version). I have two platoons of tanks (Pz IIIs and IVs) in a draw on the left flank of the AI opponent. How does do you choose one type of ammon versus another in the game? I'm concerned about the Pz IVE's. Do you manually have to select AP versus HE ammo? Colonel Warden
