  1. Ok thanks for the link Sergei, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I'm gonna pass on the quad core for now.
  2. About the CPUs dual vs quad, I assumed games aren't specifically coded to take advantage of either dual or quad core. It's just the overall speed that matters. Like for example, quad 4 x 2.33= 9.32GHz vs a dual 2 x 3.16= 6.32GHz. Which is the way it use to be done. Now I know the FSB speed is important, which for the quad I picked out is 1333 which is the same speed for all the other dual cores. But how important is the L2 cache? The one I picked is only 4mb. I noticed they come in 4mb, 6mb, 8mb, and 12mb versions. How does this impact the performance of the CPU? Oh and about the graphics card, I might get the faster 9500GT 512mb version. It's basically just a placeholder for now. I plan on getting a much better $2-300 card later this year.
  3. Come on now, you all loved it and don't have the balls to admit it. Buncha tattle-telling cowards. As usual, the Peng thread disappoints.
  4. Thanks for the feedback. I think I might beef up the graphics card and power supply along with a bigger HD. The PS in my Alienware might have killed my MB or CPU, still don't know to this day(happened about 2 yrs ago). Oh yeah Patrocles, forgot to mention AA2 and OFP2. They are certainly on my when-released list.
  5. Perfect pic for the Peng! [image deleted by moderators due to rules violation]
  6. LOL, well I see the cowbell seed I planted earlier in this thread has really blossomed. My work is done here, mission accomplished! But I do have one question. Will lamps be modeled in CMN? I love lamp.
  7. Yeah I heard about the W7 beta. Is that the full retail release in June/July or the full beta release? Oh and what the heck is Ubuntu?
  8. Finally have gotten around to upgrading my 6 year old PC. I got a new one spec'd out over at ibuypower.com. Here's a quick copy/paste of the important stuff. Raidmax Aztec Gaming Tower Case w/420W Power Supply Blue/Black 600 Watt -- Power Supply SLI Ready Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q8200 (4x 2.33GHz/4MBL2Cache/1333FSB) [sLI] Asus P5N-D Nvidia nForce 750i SLI Chipset NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 1GB 320 GB HARD DRIVE [serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit 4 GB [2 GB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair $887 with free shipping. I might get a bigger HD to put my total just over $900. So whatya guys think? Yes I know all about the Vista problems, I still want to give it a try. I've talked to many gamers who love it. I also know about the Nvidia driver problem with the CMx1 games. If I do have problems I'll still have my old XP machine for CM duties. Btw, whats the difference between Vista Home Basic, Premium, and Ultimate versions? GTA4, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Empire Total War, FarCry 2, Bioshock, Age of Conan here I come.
  9. We just covered this about 4 months ago. It's weird though, just saw this thread and am about to go to the grocery store. Just like in that previous thread, I'll probably get a can of it. Mostly due to this new spam thread, I normally don't get it.
  10. Good lord almighty, it's $8,539.00. I didn't look at the price and scrolled down to the 1st review and saw he got a good bargain at $7,000. I about spit out my coffee. This must be a joke right? I just ordered Forgotten Soldier a few days!
  11. That's the sad fact, any jackass can have a kid. The future looks bleak with more morons having the ability to reproduce while superior intellectuals can't. If you don't believe me than just watch the documentary called "Idiocracy". Pretty soon we all will be drinking Brawdo, the thirst mutilator. Why is Brawdo so good you ask? Because it has electrolytes. Here's what our money will look like. Check it out!
  12. I liked it, not many westerns featuring gambling on shootouts as the main plot to the movie. And an all-star cast with Russel Crowe before he was... well Russel Crowe. And that little pipsqueak Leo Dicrapio before he was famous. I still think that last gun duel should of been......... oops, my bad, thought this thread was about the movie and not the Mackie.
  13. Sadly, the Normandy game has been delayed. Here's a direct quote from Steve. Disclaimer: This is a bogus quote, Steve and I are not responsible for the doom and despair caused by the reading of this quote. But if Steve did in fact want more cowbell then we should probably listen to him. Last time I checked there's not many wargames that feature the cowbell. And remember, you can never have enough cowbell.
  14. The WWII game will be completely broken unless there is cowbell in it.
  15. Probably gonna go see this sometime next week. Even though that 63% at RT is down to 58% now. It's either "Valkrie" or "The Day the Earth Stood Still" at a IMAX theatre. Although the IMAX would be great, the move only gets a 19% at RT. So gotta go with the better reviewed Cruise movie over Keana Reeves IMAX bomb.
  16. Not good enough, this is a horrific attempt to make a off-topic thread back to on-topic. CMx2 games really have nothing to do with CMC, you sir have failed. Good try though!
  17. This pic reminds me of the Firefox icon. Oh so cozy!!
  18. Ok I found a very simple solution. Just go to the "Control Panel" and then "User Accounts" and disable the UAC(User Account Control). Once done the PBEM saves like it normally does with no problems. Sure would be nice to get a sticky thread concerning "Common Vista Problems and Solutions" in the CMx1 Tech help forum. This was my first experience with Vista and CMx1 games. Would of been nice to not have to hunt down solutions in the forums. This is the thread that helped me.
  19. I'm using a friends laptop with no online ability. So I'm using his Vista laptop for playing the turns and then using a thumb drive to transfer over to a online PC. I tried using the search function but it only finds the incoming PBEMs and not the game generated PBEMs. So where does Vista save the PBEM files?
  20. Here's the top sticky thread "The road ahead recap" in the CMSF forum. That's a good start, but for the most part start checking into the forum once in awhile. Since this is where most of the future games/modules are being discussed.
  21. Just wanted to echo a few things, play smaller sized battles for learning the game. Save the big brawls for when your quicker at your decision making and user interface navigation. For example, like being able to set up a battalion in under 10 minutes versus the 30+ minutes for a new player. Agree with Joachim on the saving and reloading for learning. But be careful, this can become bad habit. For beginners it's great for learning, but for the experienced players, it's basically cheating. Also don't hesitate playing hotseat by yourself. You can learn quite a bit by playing both sides. Again, winning and losing is meaningless in these situations. It's all about learning. And one last thing, when you start to feel experimental, don't hesitate to try the scenario editor. It's probably one of the most easiest editors I have ever seen for any game. I like most around here have very fond memories when first discovering the editor.
  22. In the QB settings, the casualties is on either 10% or 20%, I forget what the default setting is. Just change it to none and your good to go.
  23. I have no idea why it's called that, perhaps sorta nickname it picked up not long ago. But from the sound of it, I wouldn't want to get into a shootout with you. Mind if I call you Vincent for now on? I know your not a ex-special forces sadistic hitman like Vince in the Collateral flick. But close enough! Bumped into this slow motion with some comments about the tactics used. Gotta love Micheal Mann movies, at least for the authenticity of the firearms tactics.
  24. Hey there's some secret footage from the nightclub just leaked a few hours ago. Check it out here. Seriously though, anybody else ever practice the Mozambique Drill? It's essentially a double tap followed up by a headshot. Sadly my double tap is never a tight group, need more practice.
