  1. It would be safe to fire out of a window or doorway. There is no RPG backblast.
  2. "...these are not rifle units so they are not supposed to be engaging targets with small arms.' That makes sense. Thanks. And yes, like umlaut I am playing Nijmegen, and every carbine counts as often ammo runs low for the paras, so same issue. (Not sure why some found the question stupid.)
  3. The main expense with DCS 10 are the joystick and controller that are a "must buy" for max fun.
  4. "Toggle doors to see where are located might be also useful." That's a good idea. Too many times, we see doors, but they are not "operational" and our men go by a fatal route.
  5. IIRC the Ukraine game is not contemporary. If so, no real issue here. Regardless, RL events will almost certainly give BF a big PR boost and jump in sales. So, it's "all good".
  6. If you don't have tanks or charges, bunkers seem to succumb to concentrated small arms fire (or at least the crew bails). The challenge there is to find suitable protective terrain so that one pile it on without first getting massacred by the bunker MG.
  7. "I was under the impression that you get the initial campaign briefing when you load a save game.. at least between battles?" That would be very helpful, but I have never seen the initial campaign briefing again once a campaign has started. And sometimes one can come a cropper when you start a mission with unexpected low ammo, decimated troops and/or no arty. BTW: I note there is no "Day 3". Is that by design??
  8. Very nice job, Odin. Looks like a interesting and fun scenario and makes me want to play it.
  9. Never knew that... after how many years...? wow...
  10. The problem with using the XO in all those other roles is that I get a twinge of "gaminess" if in RL he would be staying safe ready to move into the CO's shoes.
  11. "I know from previous discussions that LOS calculation for a MG team is done from the gunner." That doesn't seem correct. Many times you can have LOS to a target from the MG team, but the MG/gunner cannot fire at the target because it is one or more of the other team members with the LOS and not the gunner.
  12. From the look of it, the method you are using will result in a very artificial-looking map that includes the deficiencies of cardboard game maps. From other threads, I had the impression that people are using online maps as an overlay and using that to make CM2 maps, which seems like a good idea.
  13. Re mortars crews and direct fire. Is there any way to have them simply use their personal weapons while they still have mortar ammo? When I LIGHT TARGET (US 60mm) mortars, they simply reduce the rate of mortar fire.
  14. As I also plan to get a new system it's a good question. I really like Win 7 and don't understand the point of Win 8 other than lining Bill G's pocket. I may demand to have Win 7 put on my new system, and I can recommend it (certainly for CM series) if that's the way you go.
  15. Well, then let's hope that BF gets around to this weirdness one day.
  16. Why not make life simple for the player and have the main campaign briefing available for every mission (if it says something important)? That's all that people like us are saying...
  17. IIRC the UI mod is either from the xnt modders Marco Bergman or JuJu. But, as mentioned it has nothing to do with the 3D models.
  18. That's another interesting observation. The command abilities of leaders in CM2 are so subtle that I usually don't worry too much about units being out of command. In CM1 you could tell the difference much more easily. One's tactics in CM2 seems far more important that the usual comparison of two identical squads blasting away at each other but with different quality HQ leadership.
  19. I suppose it's just possible to have a miracle survivor. (Altho' this phenomenon occurs more frequently than a "miracle" should.) But, in addition... when he's able to function combat effective less than a minute later...
  20. I am on this campaign as well.. Enjoying it. But, I am also confused as to when I receive resupply or reinforcements - ie when is it imperative to conserve men, equipment and ammo, and when can you "let er rip". It would be good to have this sort of info explicitly stated in each mission's briefing. It probably is stated in the initial campaign briefing. But, we never get to see that again unless one reloads the campaign from the beginning. And who wants to do that?
  21. Currently playing thru the Nijmegen campaign and for some reason the relative poor performance of HE keeps making itself experienced. Eg: An enemy 20mm AA gun in foxhole survived over 20x105mm HE plus three tanks shooting 75mm at it for at least two WEGO minutes (so maybe 30x75mm HE). Most of the crew were KO'd. But, within a minute of stopping the HE, the lone WIA crew started it up again and the AA seriously damaged a couple of tanks. (I CF'd at that point to take a look at this AA gun to find out its condition.) I have encountered this sort of extreme survivability quite often, so it's not a "once in a blue moon" occurrence. Doesn't seem "right". But, what do I know... Anybody else experiencing this?
  22. It would be nice to have an XO with authority. (I dunno how realistic it was but relieving useless platoon leaders and replacing with a Co CO was fun in CM1.) Then the useless Platoon HQ's could go on the suicide recon missions (instant punishment unit).
  23. If you prefer CMFI then the choice is obvious. If money is an issue, the it will be cheaper to get the CMBN modules.
  24. When I had my desktop built 4 years+ ago I was advised to have one HD for the OS and a 2nd HD for SWAP FILES. Not sure what those are, but it was supposed to make things faster. Jock noted he has 2 SSD's, one just for the OS. I assumed that SSD's would be so fast that there would be no reason for a 2nd SSD re speed unless it was for storage. My laptop has a 240GB SSD (and no 2nd HD) which seems to make CM run at least as well as on my more powerful desktop. (Altho' I admit I have done no tests.) Is there a good reason to have two SSD's, one for the OS and one for apps? (I agree that BU 0.5TB-1TB HD would be good for storage etc.)
  25. I have long asked BF for the inclusion of brothel buildings and "ladies of the night" units so as to fully realize the WW2 realism experiment. Alas...
