  1. It's possible also that the "colorizers" deliberately lightened the BG vehicles to enhance a sense of depth in the pic and to have the viewer focus on the men who seem to have a darker more intense color even tho' they are being lit by the same sun. Note how the coloring of the man in front is a bit darker than the 2nd guy behind him. The vehicles behind the 2nd guy are slightly lighter again.
  2. Howitzer can fire at a steep/high angle ( a bit like a mortar trajectory) and thus can shoot at targets closer than a "gun". Good for landing on targets behind walls for example. Not sure if that effect is modeled in CM. All calibers are good vs infantry - altho' the larger (105mm) and larger are increasingly effective vs buildings and vehicles - so may be a waste to use large caliber vs infantry (unless inf is your primary problem). The smaller calibers are usually faster to call for and arrive - so 60mm and smaller can be kept close to your inf and used for direct fire (assuming the mortars are safe from enemy fire).
  3. And make sure all signs are torn up a bit and have bullet holes in them. (They are like that in many parts of the USA, so...)
  4. It's really great that we can be the rebels for a change.
  5. Um, see this: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/10/technology/personaltech/video-game-raised-148-million-from-fans-now-its-raising-issues.html The game Star Citizen was announced in 2012 and raised US$148 MILLION dollars to produce it on Kickstarter and from fans. The game is still not available. So... Don't worry... be happy... (You didn't lose US$148 million.) However... the Star Citizen con er... producers' approach is interesting. Fans can sponsor or pay for a spacecraft that that is what funds it. It's just that the game is seems to be in permanent development and is never completed. However, BF actually has a fully-functioning game. So, in CM for example, BF could put a price on individual vehicles, and if enuff people wanted and were prepared to pay an amount for it, (think of all the folks here who keep making requests for this or that) then that vehicle (or feature) would appear in the game. (Probably, a funder would receive the code that activated the add-on pack that included the vehicle.) Just a thought...
  6. Maybe the easy solution is to place things in back to front and they will appear ok in the game?
  7. Try putting the maps in the Quick Battle Maps folder, or Master Maps folder?
  8. I think we need to be aware that if one already has a heavily modded CMSF, then one may not notice much improvement. The real improvement to expect is not graphics, but the updated features and resulting improved gameplay.
  9. If the sun rises during the scenario then that is good as one gets to see the great graphics eventually. PS: In PM it seemed like this might be a 2 hour mission(?) I agree that 4 hours can be daunting, but to fully enjoy your great innovative features, would recommend closer to 3 hours.
  10. Re: want to know whether my vehicle spots like this or like this or like this: Not sure that this sort of info will help you in CM games as VM doesn't have that sort of granularity. It's hard to know what is "RL accurate" and what are abstractions that "appear accurate" - but are actually examples of verisimilitude.
  11. In the very few instances that have experience that IIRC it does follow. IIRC regular arty will as well if focused on a unit (as opposed to area fire). (However that may only be for modern ie CMBS games and not for WW2 era. Not sure about that.)
  12. Not weird at all. IIRC CM1 had a feature that included Bn, Div, and Army level reinforcements that arrived depending on the casualties one suffered. It was automatic rather than manual. But, it was a great feature - unfortunately very seldom used. It was a great way of balancing out scenarios so that less-experienced players could have fun without being destroyed and having to replay over and over again. A system in which reinforcements could be summoned by the player while taking a points penalty would be a wonderful feature.
  13. It might be an interesting PhD thesis re difference between those who play fantasy/FPS vs tactical/strategic sims... and what does it all mean for one's success in life perhaps(?).
  14. Only problem is that there is nothing new to say, so people get bored, minds wander etc.
  15. Not sure what it has to do with boardgames. It's radio-controlled miniatures which have been around for a while. Just done more beautifully as if they were making a movie. I wonder if that biz is where these folks come from.
  16. Really looking forward to this MOS! What a great follow up scenario to your xnt Tactical Ops Center scenario! Never keen on night-time however. Can't see all the great graphics and flavor objects.
  17. The TOC map looks v realistic. The large no. of flavor objects helps a lot. I love looking down at eye-level and driving along the roads.
  18. Good observation. Pin note to computer monitor. But, yes, playing CM2 well requires a great deal of patience which just about every other game is designed to NOT require. So, it's a culture shock if you come from another gaming genre. In most CM2 scenarios, one needs to move carefully to spot enemy, then wait (sometimes for quite along time) for arty or air to do the actual killing, then move in to mop up. The waiting around can be very boring when all one wants to do is run your tanks around etc. Nearly every time, giving in to the need for excitement and attacking prematurely is when one gets into trouble.
  19. This was the one I was taught in the UK (or Great Britain as it was then known). Makes sense that massacring helpless troops on the beaches could have had a negative effect if Hitler was hoping that the Brits would join him in his crusade. Many royal family (like the former king) and aristos were not so secret Nazi admirers and there was plenty of reasons that the Nazis could have hoped for a new ally.
  20. Yup. Am dreading having to give up Win98 and move to Vista.
  21. The challenge with these (altho interesting) hypotheticals is that it ignores the RW issues of politics. ie: You may be top dog but there is always someone you owe something to... and that chap may often be the guy who is a defense contractor who will persuade you to award the contract to his company regardless of the fact that he produces an inferior product.
  22. A great example of how useful a new "Shoot & Scoot" command would be for AT (and sniper) teams. ie: Hide in ambush until you shoot, then run and hide.
