  1. Since when has this ever been a requirement? After all, when has it ever stopped the likes of seamless (he's missing something, but seams are probably the least of them) or Kettler or Hortlund? stoat, your latest entry is pushing it. Editing might be a good idea if you'd like to ever be promoted.
  2. You don't wanna go there. Gyrene (bolded because he's a good egg - reconstituted variety), in his infinite gulibility has put me and Mace in charge. The inmates running the asylum, to be sure.
  3. My newly minted (peppermint or spearmint?) squire stoat has made an interesting post here Does a kniggit proud to see the young 'uns taking up the old traditions so well. And his own grand liege, too. *sniff*
  4. I go on an annual camping trip with my brother and a couple of friends. We sit around every night, drink beer and play Axis & Allies or one of the newer variants. This is all out in the middle of the woods. One of the biggest reasons we play this game is because we can all play our own countries, and not have to adhere to any greater scheme. Of course, this leads to many long and loud arguments, but that's half the fun.
  5. If you use ice from Hell to chill your beer, are you Damned, or just damned drunk?
  6. Agreed. The US entry (and especially the "Pearl Harbor attacked" thing) are far too certain. Granted, the UK and USSR are probably in need of the help to balance things, but I always find it comes sooner than I want when playing the Axis. Of course, as the Allies, it never comes soon enough!
  7. John C, thanks for that. It'll work for me. BTW, I like your French flag mod...
  8. With my blessing. No pushing, there's room for everyone to get a turn.
  9. Which is why we're all here, and Hubert has a ready market. The dedicated support, and the desire to give us the best bang for the buck keep us coming back. So, in that you are right. But the no AI version had better be significantly cheaper, or I don't see it being a good seller. Basically, if I gotta pay extra for the AI, it had better be a hell of an opponent. Otherwise, the game will become essentially a HTH only one, and that's not a business model I'd care to support.
  10. I think that would suck. Major publishers would use it as an excuse to jack the prices. You'd never know if it was worth getting until the game had already been out for 1/2 a year. Now, if you had the all inclusive AI version at $47, and a head-to-head only version at $30, I could see it. But, I still would buy the "complete" version of just about anything. I play HTH with most games I buy, but I also like the AI for a quick romp, or to try out different strategies. No way I'd ever go for a no AI version of anything.
  11. Ah, but only one signature counts, and that is Hubert's. The rest is just tilting at windmills.
  12. Seeing as rockets serve the same purpose as railway guns (at least at the lower tech levels), is there someone that could make the appropriate image for these units? Something like Dora or Gustav would be cool. Unfortunately, my artistic talent is pretty much non existant.
  13. If Hubert gives half the dedication and support he did for SC1, then you'll get your wish. The community is coming out with it's own scrip/unit mods to improve things, too. I'm convinced that as time goes on, things will be tweaked to provide the ideal balance of chalenge and fun that keeps us coming back. You can't expect the AI to be able to magically counter every option. But attacking the playtesters is simply crass. You pull a gamey move like that with a human opponent, and you'll get your a$$ handed to you.
  14. Nah, they are interesting. Helps to show how others do things. Consider it a real world tutorial.
  15. You forgot "as Sombra stated in the original post." I agree with your earlier assesment. Smaller increments means a wider range of possibilities. IW1 vs. IW3 is a huge difference if 3 is the max. IW1 vs. IW3 isn't so much if the max is 6 or 8.
  16. But that isn't realistic, either. Tech advances sometimes do happen that way. As a designer working in mostly R&D over the last 23+ years, I've seen it happen. One advance can trigger new ideas that take you to the next level almost overnight. Then again, I've worked on programs that yeild nothing new, in spite of big budgets and large headcounts. It's a crapshoot, but the payoffs can be huge, so companies are willing to gamble. I think the problem stems from the lowering of the MPP, and thus every little change can be a big hit to game balance. Sure, they even out over time, but it's that one that tipped the game for or against you that you remember. I posted early on, that during early play I had taken France, and then saved and quit. Subsequent reloads to try different strategies revealed plunder that swung over a range of 300+ MPP. That right there, because of the lower incomes, is enough to decide a game. When it's a smaller percentage of the total, you don't notice it as much if at all. My solution would be to double the number of tech advance levels, and half the effects of each as Sombra stated in the original post.
  17. Does that mean Mace is bilingual? When Bugged said he was bi, I didn't think that was what she meant.
  18. Well, first you rise to power until you control the entire country...
  19. They're Oddstralians. They are naturally ass-backwards. You shouldn't need to ask.
