  1. I was wondering if there is any word on the full manual being a free pdf download in the future?
  2. Sequoia, Thank you for your answers. I had done several searches and didnt find much in the way of answers so decided to try the direct approach and ask. You helped clear a few things up. I think when I come up with the cash, Im going to buy from Battefront; I like the idea of a full manual. I hope the addons arent too expensive. I'd love to see more soviet equipment from the coldwar and beyond. It would also be interesting to see a Vietnam addon come out with period equipment and terrain. I think this game engine would do nicely in that respect. Mainly squad and platoon actions, bombings, mortar attacks. Im curious though about how air strikes are modeled in this game; abstact like CMBB or something a bit more detailed? I did notice the spotter functions in the demo, unfortunately usable only with a mortat strike.
  3. Hi all, Ive been playing the demo v1.2 and have been having quite a bit of fun with it. Im looking to get this game as soon as I can eek out some moolah. Ive got a few questions though. The first...does the Paradox boxed retail version of the game cost any less? 2.) Is its manual the same as the one that comes with the BF version of the game bought online? 3.) Any word on when the Paradox retail version will be out in stores? Ive been looking but nothing yet. 4.) These addons Ive been hearing about that BF is eventually coming out with like the Marines addon, what will they cost? What other addons might come out eventually? 5.) Any interesting mods come out yet from the community like new skins, etc.? Thanks for your time guys. Hope someone from BF can answer these questions as thats from the horses mouth so to speak and not just conjecture.
  4. Im starting to like the looks of it too. It appears BF is keeping very closely to the original squad tactical premise of the earlier CMs...hey, Im in!
  5. Wow! No news in this thread either...alrighty then...
  6. Ive been lurking here for a long time and the lack of news is certainly discouraging. I doubt good business sense means keeping potential customers in the dark this long.
  7. Actually, while Battlefront didnt code those other games, the knowledge base is there if they care to use it. a WW2 game without amphibs is mighty limited in scope and accurate history. Isnt that something the grogs rail on continually? Count my vote in FOR some sort of amphibious capability. An LCVP for a platoon and an LCM for a tank or truck isnt asking too much and I sincerly doubt is that far a cry from assualt boats for coding. Wind and waves can be simulated in the mission editor by speeds and starting locations, or even "drift" during movement or initial placement.
  8. Need: 1.) Amphibious capabilities. We already have assualt boats. I doubt its that big a step up making LCVPs to hold a platoon or LCMs to hold a single tank. Without amphibs, your missing out on North Africa's Torch, Anzio, Sicily, Southern France, Normandy, and darn near every freaking LARGE river crossing ever did. 2.) How about a damn "Y" road crossing for mission/map builders? Sure coulda used one more than once building missions instead of trying to jury rig some goofy, way larger than needed "Y" with whats ingame. 3.) Leaders that can be assigned to any particular unit in the mission builder. Not just mere platoon leaders. But I want to be able to assign company and battalion leaders. 4.) How about MOBILE HQ's to accompany mobile units? 5.) Fog that works on an ATI video card. Fog shows up on all my other games that have it. Dont Need: 1.) The game MORE complicated. Its user freindly and playable for the most part now. 2.) More scalable difficulty for newbies. 3.) Im thinking about it. 4.) Im thinking about it. 5.) Im thinking about it.
  9. Most of the WW2 stuff out there is RTS style games; different from simulations. We havent had a good tank sim since Panzer Commander and Panzer Elite which came out when...1998? I understand there is a new game announced over at Tanksim.com called Panzer Fist. They have a website here... www.panzerfist.com.
  10. Hiya Mag! Good AAR and pics. Im REAL interested in this game. Waiting for the demo to come out first though. It looks almost like OFP doesnt it, except not quite as detailed inside the vehicle. What is the learning curve like? By the way, say hello to the boys at MGG for me will ya...
  11. If assualt boats can be modeled, so can larger boats I would think. LCVP's for a platoon of troops and LCM's for vehicles. Amphib assualts are way to big a part of military ops to be so blatantly ignored as in CM.
  12. Hubert, Looking forward to SC2. Im willing to wait. Im really enjoying SC1 right now...
  13. Looking forward to them, ought to be interesting. Thanks Pzgndr...
  14. Arngrim, I could be wrong, but I think Hentzua was talking about the original SC. Fairbairn, I wouldnt ask too many men that question...espesially down south.
  15. Looking forward to the screenies hubert, thanks for the update.
  16. Must say Im looking forward to this game too. please post some updated screens when you can. I noticed that the SC2 website doesnt have any FAQ and hasnt been updated in awhile. Thats why I dropped by the forums today, to see if any progress was happening on it. Glad to hear its still in the pipeline. Youve got a cool game in the works Hubert.
  17. Agent, those screens look real nice. I would love to have them. Please do let us know when they are up at Otto's. Thanks and BZ!
  18. Other means, OT here...I read your poem you have linked in your sig. I take it that was a WW1 poem of gas attack. Very touching. What does the latin mean if you would pardon my ignorance?
  19. Yes, this occured to me. I have nothing running in the background except Explorer and systray. I am using WinMe OS. Everything worked before with this OS so not sure why it isnt now, espesially after a fresh install of everything. Thank you for the answer however. Maybe another idea? Im stumped... I am running a Pentium3 1ghz cpu on a ABIT MoBo with Via chipset and latest via drivers. 512 MB PC-133 RAM Radeon 8500 w/64MB VidRAM and Cat3.8 drivers SB Live! X-Gamer w/ Creative 5.1 Surround Sound
  20. I have had CMBO for about 3 years now. I have done a number of scenarios of my own with no problems. A few months ago that all changed for some reason. I was working on a scenario in the CMBO editor. When I was finished I saved it and went to close out of the editor. The game would ask me to "save game?" again. I noticed it also kept asking me if I wanted to save the scenario in the "saved games" folder even after repeatedly setting it to save the scenario in the scenario folder. I didnt think too much of it till I opened the scenario to play it and realized all the work I had spent to improve the scenario had not been saved ! AAAAAAAAAAAAA! I figured ok, I can deal with this and not throw the computer out the door...its no big deal, my computer is acting wierd anyway and getting to be in dire need of a reformat so Ill reinstal the game then and everything will be fine like it used to be. Right? Well, to my dismay, Ive discovered the problem is still there after a reformat and reinstall of the game. So I have tried several different things, saving the scenario to the "save game" folder as well as the scenario folder, etc. And nothing seems to work. The changes I make to almost all the scenarios I tried to edit did not take. A few did but most did not. There is no error message though SOMETIMES I do hear a "DING" when I save the scenario like some error just happened. And despite repeated attempts to save the scenario in the editor, it still ask me if I would like to save the scenario when I try to close out of the editor. Any suggestions before I do unspeakable things to this computer and my landlords window when the computer sails out of it?  [ October 10, 2003, 01:58 PM: Message edited by: pcpilot ]
  21. Hi all, been working on the first 3 Squad Leader scenarios with the CMBB editor. What came out Impretty pleased with. No, its not perfect. Certain terrain tiles like a good old fashioned y intersection or a large building covering more than one tile with a LOW roof woulda helped. Also the ability to assign an HQ to any number of squads would have made it more ASL like. However, I think I caught the flavor quite well. Its best played with a human opponent of course, but the AI is adequate either way, though I have beaten it from both sides easily...(whew!) The scenario can be found at Combat Mission Scenario Depot or at my webpage here... pcpilot's Gaming Page. [ September 12, 2003, 04:22 PM: Message edited by: pcpilot ]
  22. Say flesh, thats really nice. Looks cool. I agree, Im not so groggy I cant appreciate a snazzy lookin tank paint job.
  23. WOW! Those LOOK GOOD! Sorry if this sounds like a broken record, but cant think of anything better to say, the superlatives are superfulous... [ May 30, 2003, 12:23 PM: Message edited by: pcpilot ]
  24. Try "Enemy at the Gates". I dont have the author's name right now. But this book is a well written story about the terrrible fight for stalingrad. It brings to quite horrible reality war and what it really about. You'll never look at that battle the same and all else will pale in comparison.
  25. I have a number of vehicles listed in CMMOS with a red circle with a line thru it drawn over them. Is that becuase they didnt "take" into cmmos for some reason, or is it because I dont have those mods yet that are listed in the rulesets? I do know that Gautrek's dusty truck is installed, yet it has the red circle too. Maybe the file is corrupt? Thanks for the help fellas. pc
