  1. Ok, I finally found them. Numbers 602-622 I think, give or take a few... :0) Now I am wondering this...What I want to do is make a game map that is a copy of an old wargame I used to play. I need a road tile that looks like a Y. There isnt anything in the map editor that will do. So I was thinking about modifying an existing tile to look like I need. Well, I have done that and gave it an unused number, 990. Now how can I make this tile show up in the map editor? Is this possible? Thanks for the reply in advance fellas.
  2. Does anyone have an idea what BMP #'s they are? I cant find the road tiles at all.
  3. Which is the most useful? I have both, the cm mod manager for CMBO and CMMOS for CMBB. There arent too many mods that are CMMOS compatable. And being that there arent tons of mods yet for CMBB that can be a liability. On the other hand, I like its interface something fierce, it is not only handy, its COOL! And it seems to work more surely than the Mod Manager. What do you guys think?
  4. I would like to see those mods of yours finished. They all look quite good. I would definatley add them to my collection. WELL DONE!
  5. Ah'm 45 years old, feel like Ah'm 25, and think like Ah'm 15...man am I messed up or what??!!??
  6. My father was a tanker in Pattons' army. He died before I got to ask him what he saw and went thru. Ill never forget the old B25 pilot who walked away in tears after telling me only he and one other of his unit survived the european war. These video footages remind us of what war really is all about...killing. I have always been curious of war. I have played war games since a child, first playing with plastic soldiers, then board games, now computer. I have studied military history since childhood thru books spending hours in the library reading and listening to LPs of the sounds of war. I spent 14 years in the US Marines and Navy during the coldwar and the Iran and Lebanese crisis. I watched B52s incinerate a small island in the pacific during a training flight and saw a harpoon missile break a FRAM destroyer in two and send it to the bottom in 3 minutes. Almost everyday I look into the eyes of the people whose pictures are in the paper and on TV news. I love playing the games but I have never forgotten what war really is. I will always pray for those who endure its horror and do what I can to help. And I will never be ungrateful to my God who saw fit to keep me free of it.
  7. I tell ya, you guys are a hoot! ROFL! I love reading these posts! Allright you BTS guys, knock off the Big macs and lambourghinies(sic) and get hot on my game! I knew it all along!
  8. Please dont get me wrong fellas. I see absolutley nothing sinister in BTS keeping the release date underwraps. With the quality of CMBO and their good support of the community, I have no doubt of their integrity and workmanship either, I think it is very high on both counts. Im merely trying as best as my limited brain capacity and vocabulary allow to voice my wish for something more than "itll be done when its done". I dont expect an exact date, but some kinda idea would sure be nice like how far along are they now? 75% 80% When might they go Gold? Will they even tell us when they go Gold? Its difficult when you get caught up in the excitement of a really good product thats darn close to what you been looking for in a computer game since you put ASL on the shelf, you spend time on the forums, and playing the original game, and talking with everyone how cool this game will be...and then you find that youve only got to wait...and wait...and wait... My life doesnt end or begin with this game, there's plenty to keep me happy, Church, fishing, hunting, freinds, etc. I am sure BTS has good business reasons for keeping things so quiet and up in the air. But it seems its also good business to give your potential customers a clue as to when they can enjoy your product so you dont have a bunch of them get bored and go elsewhere. I suppose since Im not likely to get an answer that its all academic... Am I even making any sense to anyone? My former wife said no... :0) PS. I did see where one fellow above said that BTS is talking now about a Q3 release. Rats, thats a long time...but its getting closer to what Ive been hoping for in the way of some beef on them bones. 9. I played the game twice lastnite, once with a friend at his house. We both thought it was pretty cool and we will be buying it when it is released. Which is pretty amazing considering I was never a big "operational type" in gaming, preffering more tactical level gaming instead. I liked the graphics, but it would be cool if they were more oriented towards each countrys' equipment. For instance, instead of a generic tank for all countrys armor, have a Tiger for Germany, a T-34 for Russia, etc. The capital citys should have perhaps something more distinguishing than merely its color. I thought the subs were awfully expensive for Germany which produced so many of them. I also didnt think they had enough for the start of the war. I would think the different Flotillas would be represented as a counter and not the entire fleet of what, 56 boats?, in one counter. I would also think there would at least be one cruiser counter representing the Pocket BB's, Ca's, and DD's. I also thought that the airforce on Malta was very difficult to eliminate, never did despite having 3 Italian air fleets on sicily attacking together(!), and considering that at the begining of the war in the Med there were only 3 Gladiators known as Faith, Hope, and Charity. Perhaps a switch in setup to allow the purchasing screen to be toggled so that it will stay up after purchasing a unit if you want to buy more than a single unit. Please do not take this as negative critism, it is merely my thoughts and first impressions of things that could perhaps use a bit of tweaking. The game overall played very well with gameplay proceeding smoothly. The AI appeared to be pretty good, at one point quickly taking Belgrade when I left it opencausing me to loose Yugo, grrrrr! I found it easy to keep track of my units but this may change with the eastern front... My friend and I both commented on and enjoyed the sound effects. I played at a very high resolution, I think it was 1280X960X32 and the game looked very nice. All in all, I think I'd give the game beta demo an 8 outta 10. Considering the way you fellas work on your games, I expect that will rise...
  10. One thing I do like about this forum is the generally very good civility of its denizens. We can even speak "heresy" as the lad at the top did and people all get into a discussion and not a "cusssession". I do tend to appreciate the way BTS proceeds with its game development, but it does seem sometimes they take the "when its done" bit too far. They have a LOT of very interested people here whom they keep throwing bones to that have no beef. I can understand no precise date, thats asking a lot on something that does not allow it like software development. But a "window" for going gold at least wouldnt hurt in anyway I can think of. That would be some "beef" in my mind, not simply just screens, AAR's, etc. I guess after the huge letdown with the half finished product Destroyer Command, I can see why they would want to make it right at BTS. But by the same token as a gamer who has been disappointed by all the hype and nailbiting waiting, Im gonna try my best not to get excited again until the product is out.
  11. Ill never forget my visit to Perth-Freemantle while I served in the US Navy back in 81. You Aussies made us more welcome than anywhere else I have traveled. Being a student of WW2 I hope that our younger generations never forget the bloody sacrifices made to ensure their freedom by all our freedom loving countries' soldiers, airmen, and sailors. I have always felt a rush of warmth to know that we Americans have such fine freinds and allies as you commonwealth people. We might bicker sometimes, and a good barroom brawl always clears the air. But when the rubber hits the road, we Americans know who we can trust to be there. I hope we are always there for you good, stout hearted lads. I tip my hat to you on ANZAC DAY. God Bless you all... Your Friend, pcpilot
  12. Hi Augustus, maybe I can help a little though Im sure others know more than I. To keep it as simple as possible, in CM, (reflecting accurately WW2), there were several types of armor used, with a different combat theory behind each. The first and most obviuos of those vehicles many of us call tanks generally came in three flavors. The first and probably most common tank in WW2 was of a type used for mobile warfare. Thay tended to act like the cavalry of old; a mobile force used to flank, or infiltrate, or just flat out PUNCH a way thru the enemy lines and disrupt the rear area of the enemy. Thay could cut off or at least disrupt supply and reinforcements, locate and destroy artillery and headquarters units, etc. and geenerally make a mess of the enemys sense of wellbeing. During WW2, first the Germans, then later the British, Americans, and Russians all learned how to completely incapacitate entire armies with a "tank" tactic called Blitzkrieg. Tanks of this type in CM would be most of the Sherman types, the german MKIV, and their MKV Panther, The British Crusader and I think the Cromwell,(though it might have been an infantry support tank), and The Russian T34. A second kind of tank that was used was more designed to support infantry in their attacks and defence, but espesially attack. These were generally called assault guns by the Soviets and Germans and most didnt have turrets. They were usually tanks with the turrets removed and a large caliber gun installed in the hull. The British, espesially in the early war years had a number of tanks with turrets used in this fashion though the guns were usually not of that large a caliber, mostly 37mm and 40mm. There assault firepower rested more in their machine gun armament I beleive, and these British tanks were also very slow. Tanks of this type in CM would be the British Matilda, the German StgIII and IV, and the Soviet SU-85 and SU-122. A third type of "tank" was the Tank destroyer. Again a turretless tank usually built from a standard tank hull with a very high velocity gun mounted in the hull. The Germans referred to them as "tank Hunters" hence the term "jagdpanzer". I could be wrong but I dont think these tanks were used on the offence a whole lot unless there was a shortage of regular turreted tanks as they would be at a serious disadvantage on a battlefield with turreted tanks. I think they were more suited and intended for defensive warfare. Tanks of this type in CM are The German PZV or jagdpanther and the "elephant", the US M-10 and M-18 TD's. Other types of armor generally fell into two catagories...armored infantry vehicles and self propelled artillery. These vehicles were generally lightly armored able to withstand Heavy machinegun fire at best and also offered some protection from shell fragments though they were nearly all open topped to my knowledge and the passengers were vulnerable to fire from above them, like units on a nearby hill for instance. These vehicles offered support to the attacking forces' tanks espesially when they were punching thru the enemy lines, giving the tanks added firepower and protecting them from enemy infantry who might try to hit their flanks as they went past. These vehicles would be the US, Geramn, and Russian 1/2 tracks, British Bren carriers, US M8 HMC, M7 GMC, Germanys' Wespe and Hummel. Oh, there were also a number of armored cars used by all the combatants as scouts. These would be the German PSW 222, American M8, British Humber for instance. Nearly All of these units were considered offensive weopons with a only few exceptions like the tank destroyers. However, the Germans became very adept at using armor in the defence as roving "fire brigades", (putting out fires, I see a soldiers dark humor here), rushing to any sector that was threatened with an imminent enemy breakthru to bolster the lines, (and the defending soldiers morale). Some tanks were never very good in the attack because of slow speeds like the German King Tiger and was used, I beleive, more for defence quite effectively. Sorry I got so "windy" but this is the short of it as best I can say and still give you a basic decent idea how CM tanks were employed during the war. Most CM battles are pretty small affairs being only no bigger than battallion size so there wont be any big breakthrus like in France but you can still use tanks and 1/2 tracks to flank an enemy ,(or punch thru his lines), bringing him under enfillading fire, and hunt down his arty and HQs...hehehe. Meanwhile your TDs can hold off his tanks preventing his flank attack, and your assualt guns and self propelled artillery can blast his infantry helping your own infantry in their contest with the enemy. If you dont know where the enemy is exactly then in go the armored cars with a hearty "Good Luck" and a few prayers. By the way, I added Soviet vehicles as we will hopefully one day before I get old get CM2 which covers the eastern front warfare. pcpilot out...
  13. I would love to see this CM engine used to make a Civil War version or mod. There isnt a lot of good games for this period. Combat Mission would put it into a very cool 3D perspective. It would of course entail using smaller units than brigades and divisions but thats ok with me. Anyone of you modders care to try this?
  14. I have tried with the boats in the game but when I try to start the scenario with the units coming on as reinforcements, they all start on the land and not in the boats. Suggestions? What am I missing? It would be really cool if perhaps BTS or someone could come up with a Higgins boat or "Mike" boat, (LCM), that could be loaded when it comes on as reinforcements to make beach assault scenarios. Perhaps even an LVT. They could have an attack capability too with their mounted MGs. BTS...hint...hint... :0) I did look thru the forums in a limited manner but to no avail. Thanks fellas, pcpilot out...
  15. I think a little imagination in a game is good, just like when we were kids. The way it sounds I think it will be fine. Who knows, maybe later an aircraft mod?
  16. CMBO is definately stayin on my HD. I like both theatres' so Ill be playin them both. Besides, Ive had too much fun with CMBO. Gotta be ready anyway for anyone foolish enough to challenge me with CMBO...BWAAAHAHAHAHA...*gasp*...*choke* ...gotta quit that... [ February 08, 2002, 01:02 AM: Message edited by: pcpilot ]

  18. Pardon my rookieness fellas but where did you do a tank rumble? Like, what website or whatever? I would love to get in on something like this...Have Sherman, will travel
  19. HI Shatter, yes, I will try the 4x just to see what happens. I do appreciate the fact that BTS made thier game compatable for the slower systems which makes it easier for me to be flexible with my faster system. Hey, I sent a message to you and havent heard back. I would like to play a game with you when you can. Also, I should have the full version soon as BTS is shipping again. Then we can go whole hog, YEEHAAWWW!!!
  20. Sorry it took so long to get back to you all but I found the answer I think. I simply go into the 3DFX tools manager and change the DirectX 3D and Glide settings to single chip. Thats it! The game worked fine and and experianced no slow down and I didnt have to change my screen resolution. batta BING! batta BOOM! Thanks for the help guys, it got me to thinking, a fairly rare comodity... I also found that BTS is shipping again...YAAAAAAAA!!! so I hope to battle with you guys soon. cya
  21. I have been running 1024X760 res. the voodoo card is set at 2x fsaa. I will try some different resolutions tonite and see what happens. I will also try some different settings on the fsaa. Thanks for your replys fellas, hope to do battle with you all soon.
  22. Hi guys, you seem to have the handle on tech probs so let me fly this one past you... I have been playing the demo, (just bought the full version but it aint here yet). The demo seems to work fine until I quit the game, then I get this translucent, verticle bar that goes from left to right on my screen. It doesnt go away until I reboot. Sometimes there are some other minor anolomies too. I have the last driver update from 3DFX's website dated Nov.2000. I also am running DirectX 8.0. This is on a celeron 566mhz system with 64 mb ram and a 17inch samsung monitor. Any suggestions? Yeah, yeah, I know...get a geforce 2... Thanks guys again for any help. pcpilot
