  1. In order to wrap up the new Soviet Uniform mod I need a good head-on photo, scan, or at this point even a drawing of a WWII-era Naval officer's cap badge. Can anyone help me out? MikeT? Grisha? Thanks in advance!
  2. Yes, it's the first! Glad you like the unis. I'll see how much work I can get in on them before we have to rush to the hospital.
  3. That's really nice! But then we wouldn't expect anything less!
  4. Like I mentioned before, I think they had a special sleeve insignia or something. I'll do a little research and incorporate it as an option.
  5. What'd they have, a sleevepatch or something? I'll check it out. That might be a nice option to have.
  6. Thanks! We're just waiting at this point: could be tonight, could be sometime next week. I have a funny feeling that sometime this weekend I'm going to become a dad . I'll try to get these finished tonight. There's not much to do but change the shoulder board colors. That and make camo outfits for the airborne. Maybe they'll be a separate release later.
  7. They do look good in-game. I should be done with them soon. Actually, and I swear to god I'm not making this up, my wife could give birth to our first child any day now  so if I don't finish these this evening then you all might be waiting for them awhile! I plan on taking a couple weeks off of work, but I don't know how much modding time I'll have then.
  8. I did make a version with smaller chickenwire last night, but it didn't look very good due to the distortion, which was mainly in the brim area. For some reason the larger pattern does not distort as much. I may remove the wire from the brim (as I have seen examples like this) and release that version for those who want it. My ultimate idea is to put together a "helmet pack" mod with different camouflage paint patterns, foliage, wire, etc. I was working on a version with rope netting that looked promising.
  9. Not as released, but I suspect that MikeT will get his hands on them and begin to work his CMMOS magic.
  10. I think these ended up having a nice "Russian" feel to them (whatever that is ) The rain cape will be an option, like with my winter uniforms, although it will be depicted as slung over the shoulder, as there is no way to alter the 3D model. I could add a red star to the helmet, but last time I did that a knowledgable forum member pointed out that it was ahistorical so I dropped it. I could include it as an option for those who don't care about such things. In doing research for these I did come across what seemed to be credible photos of "original" Red Army helmets that did have either a solid or outlined red star on the front. Can anyone tell me why this isn't historical? I suspect it's a parade thing or a cheesy post-war add-on to give it that "commie" look, but I'm curious as to the real answer. I doubt that it's something that would be worn in combat as I'm sure the big bright red star smack in the middle of a forehead would have made a dandy target.
  11. Tracer - Sorry you took it that way. I thought I used enough smilies (like these )to indicate that I was taking the whole discussion in a light-hearted way. I thought it was amusing that the two times I made something like this the criticisms I received were exactly the opposite of each other (does that make sense?). I thought it was amusing, nothing more. Like I mentioned before: everybody's really right here, and there are no absolutes. And yes, I get e-mails all the time about my mods, too. Sometimes I ignore them and sometimes I take heed of the constructive criticism the contain.
  12. This one's about 80% finished. It's pretty easy, actually, as the Soviet uniforms have a minimal amount of pockets and pleats and things. What's time-consuming is working up all the variations. They're a little darker than the originals. I'm also experimenting with some different colors, representing, for example, the American lend-lease OD wool used in some uniforms. They look pretty good, but I'll also have to make a new set of Russian face BMPs to go with it because of the way the high collar is depicted. More pix: Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do with the airborne BMPs... I decided to dress the naval infantry troops in regular army gymnastiorkas with navy shoulder boards and belt buckles as an alternative to the pea-coats and cool ammo belts in the originals. If anyone has any useful suggestions at this point let me know so I can incorporate them.
  13. I don't feel bad . No matter how much research I do (I'm not a grog by any means but I'm a pretty good researcher) and how accurate I try to make things someone is bound to disagree. I think it's funny how things are usually voiced in absolutes, i.e. "never" and "always" instead of "rarely" and "often". Everybody's right most of the time, really.
  14. Hey, I'm just a victim of the chickenwire grogs!
  15. It's not as tough as you think. I just didn't want to get lectured on chickenwire sizes again. Actually, I initially, way back when, made a small version for CMBO, which was pointed out as "inaccurate", so I made a larger one analagous to the CMBB version seen here. Both looked ok, really, but the bigger one looked cooler so I stuck with it. Both are correct, so maybe I'll make a small one, too.
  16. Probably the same place where this guy got his back in the '40s.
  17. Last time I got lectured by Dorosh (back in the CMBO days) on the wire being too small  Now you're telling me it's too big! From what I've seen, the wire sizes varied. I think it had to do with the size of the chickens. This wire was used to contain big roosters while obviously the original owner of your helmet had ripped off the wire from a farm raising poussins or cornish game hens.
  18. I've never been happy with the way the 44-dot camo uniforms turned out in my Waffen-SS late-war uniforms set, so I monkeyed with the colors until they looked better. It's a great improvement. I also took the opportunity to correct a few inaccuracies and I threw in a couple of little extra goodies as well (little goodies--don't get too excited). Plenty of reasons to download it again! Winter versions pretty much done, too. Look for them both at: where else? [edited to make post title more exciting] [ April 24, 2003, 03:38 PM: Message edited by: AndrewTF ]
  19. Yeah, but they're little Tonka figures with Panzerschrecks, MP-44s, and Mosin Nagants. Way cooler than your nephew's toys.
  20. Check it out: CMBB Uniform BMP Numbers An invaluable resource courtesy of Michael Dorosh and Garry Kump.
  21. Try this: Breslau Stadtplan 1938 Probably a little better for CMBB than the modern maps of Wroclaw. I've been working on a monster urban map of Breslau, concentrating on the western area around the airport that saw some of the heaviest fighting. I have a few more URLs I can pass on (I think) but I'll have to look them up when I get home this evening.
  22. Offending BMPs have been removed and MOD re-uploaded to the server. Sorry for the confusion. I really should pay more attention...
  23. Better go check them out again! I was working on a mid-war splinter set so perhaps the BMPs strayed into this folder. Sorry if there was any confusion.
