  1. I found a reference to it and a picture on an Italian WW2 website. I don't think I bookmarked it, though. I'll see if I can find out what the URL was and forward it to you.
  2. Available for download now! This mod corrects a few minor inaccuracies in the originals, and offers optional textures for MVSN/Black Shirt Legion and Bersaglieri. Additionally, helmets have unit insignia (plain versions are also offered), except for the Mechanized/Cavalry units because I couldn't find any references for them. No, there aren't any feathers on the Alpini and Bersaglieri helmets because the distortion of the helmet model made including them nearly impossible. Also, the MVSN guys should probably have daggers, but they don't . On another note--this mod was almost entirely scratch-built, except for the helmet insignia and the Eastern Front badge worn by the officers. Other than those, I painted all elements, including ammo pouches, holsters, etc., by hand in Photoshop just to see if I could pull it off. I think they look pretty good. I guess all those college painting and drawing classes paid off. How about some pix? Alpini Infantry Mechanized Mech. Coy HQ MVSN Bersaglieri Bersaglieri Platoon HQ
  3. Oh, and I am working on a feather for the Alpini helmets. Just hang in there--it's rough going, but I think I can fake one ok.
  4. Thanks for the link, Massimorca! This is a work in progress, so there are a few inconsistencies still, like with the blackshirts. I posted the WIP shots here in hopes of getting some more information, which I did, so thanks to all! Funny that the idea of the Bersaglieri should be brought up, as I was thinking of doing them for the mech. troops. What I do need though is a clear picture of the Bersaglieri helmet insignia. If anyone has a pic of this or can scan one for me and e-mail it (e-mail is in profile) I would be very appreciative. Also, the BN/COY HQ units do have lighter colored uniforms than the rest of the troops, as can be seen in the Black Shirts screenie. Any and all info on Italian uniforms is appreciated. I've already found the obvious ones (Italianfront.com, and that Italian reenactors site) but anything else would be helpful. Something in Italian perhaps. As an Alfa Romeo owner and avid shop manual reader I can usually figure out what's being said, or at least enough to get me in trouble.
  5. This mod has been made entirely from scratch, instead of relying on adapting photos of field gear, etc. So far so good. Infantry Gun crew Alpini. Note difference in helmet insignia. And last, but not least, optional BMPs for the Black Shirt Legion.
  6. Well, I guess. I put it where it is as it did not interfere with the gas mask bag (or is it a breadbag?) strap. It won't take too much fiddling around to see how it will look.
  7. I think that's the difference between PCI and AGP graphics cards. Eventually I'll get another machine...
  8. That's the idea. I think I tend to exaggerate the highlights and shadows a bit, but when taken as a whole it really looks more realistic.
  9. PC screen?!? Sir, I take offense to that accusation! Hey, all my mods are 100% Macintosh made. How old is your mac? The one I'm using now is an old 8600 with a G3 processer upgrade, gobs of memory, and a 32MB Radeon card. It's pretty old, in computer years. I can get it to display the uniforms sharply by making a little test battle on the smallest map possible with one (1) enemy sharpshooter and a minimal amount of landscaping and troops. I'm also using your lo-res doodads and Capt. Wacky's lo-res grass and steppe, which help a lot. Unfortunately, the vehicle textures always get downsampled to some degree .
  10. Early-war Soviets. They're done! Available for download now from the Combat Mission Mod Database A whole mess o' pix: Cavalry Cavalry officers Guards Airborne Infantry Naval infantry Naval troops are now more authentic, as I finally found some deecent source material. Soviet marines were issued regular army uniforms and used standard infantry insignia, but with the naval belt buckle, "foul anchor" sleeve patch, and blue/white stripey shirt, as seen here. Should be wearing sailor hats, but I can't do anything about that. All units are depicted with 1941-pattern subdued insignia, including collar tabs, rank insignia, and cap badges. 11. Thanks Mike! Yes, I am joining the ranks of the sleep-deprived. Currently he's quite content to stay up until 4 AM fussing and fidgeting, but since he's only 3 days old I have to give him a break. I might be able to work on the early-war Russian uniform mod during these late nights... (obligatory CMBB mod reference added so the admins don't bounce this to the hellhole that is the General Forum )
  12. Cool!!! I was going to make one of these based on my M5 halftrack mod but now I don't have to! Looks great! Could you possibly see your way clear to posting a version or two at CMMODS.com so us those of us who are CMMOS-impaired can download it and get that instant gratification that we crave? 13. Aaargh! I just found out that my naval infantry uniforms are wrong. Well, kind of. They should be wearing standard infantry shoulderboards. How come I can never find this info before I start work on something? Oh well, no biggie. If anyone is really annoyed by this let me know and I can correct it, otherwise it stays. They should also be wearing "Donald Duck" style sailor hats and have their army-style gymnastiorkas open to show their blue and white striped t-shirts, too, but there's no way I can really depict that. The uniforms in the upcoming early set will be somewhat more accurate, although without the sailor hats.
  14. That info does help, thanks! Lord Dragon: Each helmet is different, which is why there are four in the option pack. Guards use 9517.bmp, I think, regular infantry 9505.bmp, and the other two use one each of the others.
  15. Now he tells me... Oh well, that's why it's an option, I guess. I made it the way it is because that's what looked best with the mod and interfered the least with the existing fieldgear, etc., On another subject, early-war uniforms are on deck. I'm using the 1941-pattern subdued collar insignia which simplifies matters a lot! Can anyone tell me what the subdued NCO collar tabs looked like (as seen on the Soviet support uniform BMPs)? The originals, which use the standard color-coded insignia, have a lengthwise black stripe/line going throught the tabs. Any help would be appreciated, I want to make the mod as accurate as I can. And, for those of you privy to the news in my earlier preview thread: No, I'm not a dad yet. Any day now, though, but possibly another week.
  16. It seems the options pack got corrupted when compressed. Please bear with me while I correct it. I'll update the whole set and post the options separately.
  17. It's ready. Get it here! Inlcudes everything but airborne and tank crew BMPs. Included in the download is a separate "option pack" that contains alternate helmet and uniform textures. I'm working on a green version of the mod, too, but that won't be done for a while. Pix of the finished product: Red Guards Naval HQ and MG Naval infantry wear standard army gymnastiorkas with naval insignia and caps, where appropriate. They're meant to be an alternative to the original "pea coat" BMPs, which are pretty cool (my favorite of the originals, really) so back them up. Cavalry And, lastly, regular infantry with optional raincapes and "red star" helmets. These helmets were included in one of my winter mods. They were pointed out to me as being ahistorical, but people liked them and they look cool. I have seen "original" helmets with markings like this as well as period artwork depicting such markings, so there is a possibility they were used by someone at some point.
  18. Thanks Mike--you came through again! This will work perfectly, as you'll see in a short time.
