  1. +1 I haven't watched the video but it does sound like it makes overly broad generalizations. -------- Another key ingredient in the rejuvenation of the Soviet tank fleet was the improvement in quality control. Through 1943 output quantity had remained the emphasis; quality control was weak, as mentioned in the previous chapter. The Nizhni-Tagil design bureau had been pressing the GABTU to allow them to impose greater uniformity on the several plants manufacturing the T-34/85 and to put more emphasis on quality control at the subcontracting plants. This began to pay off in 1944. The policy of testing new T-34 tanks on a test track in 1943 found that only a small fraction could run the minimum requirement of 300 kilometers before breaking down. By early 1944 this dismal record had been overcome and T-34 reliability finally reached acceptable levels. During February 1944 tests 79 percent of tanks reached 300 kilometers, and of the test batches 33 percent reached 1,000 kilometers. This became immediately apparent to the tank troops. The deputy commander of the 1st Guards Tank Army, P. G. Dyner, commented that tanks in 1943 would reach only 75 percent of their guaranteed life span in engine hours and mileage, but in 1944 they reached 150 percent. -- Steven Zaloga, Armored Champion
  2. PSI is weight divided by track surface area. Width of vehicle is not a factor.
  3. Keep in mind that the 1-5 bar rating in the UI is an approximation. It's much more granular "under the hood". https://community.battlefront.com/topic/106892-tank-off-road-performance-tests-and-possible-wackiness/?do=findComment&comment=1485259
  4. Don't use the Hull Down command for area fire. It's not meant for that. It's really intended for tank vs tank engagement. The idea behind the command is to put your tank hull down to another vehicle on a particular piece of terrain, NOT hull down to the terrain itself. It assumes a Very Tall vehicle on the targeted action spot and attempts to get hull down to that vehicle, so it will usually stop short of LOS to the ground and will also sometimes stop short of LOS to any vehicle shorter than Very Tall (Panthers and Shermans are Very Tall).
  5. Good catch. I'll edit. Although I did not take any of the data from the manual. It all came from the big ammo thread in the beta forum. I simply missed that post from Chris. Something odd though... the QB price for T-64B and T-64B1 goes up by 6 points in 1980 compared to 1979. I don't know what would explain that other than an ammo change. I suspect they may have BM15 in 1979.
  6. Very well, mortal. But no tooltips, sadly. To the best of my knowledge: US M48A5: M392 APDS, M456A1 HEAT M60A1: M728 APDS, M456A1 HEAT through 1980, then M456A2 starting in 1981 M60A1 (RISE): same as M60A1 M60A1 (RISE+): M735 APFSDS, M456A1 HEAT through 1980, then M456A2 starting in 1981 M60A1 (RISE Passive): same as M60A1 (RISE+) M60A3: M774 APFSDS, M456A1 HEAT through 1980, then M456A2 starting in 1981 M60A3 (TTS): same as M60A3 M1 Abrams: M774 APFSDS, M456A2 HEAT M2 and M3 Bradley: 25mm M791 APDS USSR PT-76: BR354N APCR, BK354M HEAT T-55: BM8 APDS, BK17M HEAT T-55A: BM25 APFSDS, BK17M HEAT T-62 (1972): BM21 APFSDS, BK4M HEAT T-62 (1975): BM21 APFSDS, BK15M HEAT T-64A: BM12 APFSDS, BK14M HEAT T-64B: BM22 APFSDS, BK18M HEAT* T-64B1: same as T-64B T-72: BM12 APFSDS, BK14 HEAT T-72A: BM15 APFSDS, BK14M HEAT T-72A (1980): BM22 APFSDS, BK18 HEAT T-80 (all types): BM22 APFSDS, BK18M HEAT *Possibly BM15 in 1979 only.
  7. You're right, thanks for the correction. I forgot the T-72A was changed to BM15 in the first patch.
  8. It also has different HEAT ammunition (APFSDS is the same). T-72A: 3BK14M T-72A (1980): 3BK18
  9. It appears the unit has somehow entered impassible terrain (heavy forest). Now it can't leave. I'll log it as a bug although the real bug is that it was allowed into that terrain to begin with.
  10. In that save file Tank Hunter 6 has no move orders. If I give it one it does move.
  11. I'm not sure what you mean. Neither the M60A1 or T-72 have thermal sights.
  12. Do you have an earlier save? Can't do much with the game over.
  13. It's the very long range combined with the dust and smoke from the tank fire. Units in CM have no memory. When they lose sight of a target they have to start the spotting process over, albeit with the standard bonus units always get when spotting an "unknown" contact. I set up a test scenario with the same conditions (hot and dry) and saw the same thing. I then changed the ground condition to "damp" and it made a big difference.
  14. I'm not aware of temperature having any effect on spotting, but post the save file and I'll take a look.
  15. FYI, this is a known issue that should be fixed in the next round of patches.
  16. The campaigns with the dates in parenthesis are the patched versions.
  17. The US squads are also one man smaller. Even if you leave the FO there is no way to transport a US platoon in fewer than 4 Bradleys. I mean, 2 fewer seats is 2 fewer seats. If you're job is transporting people I'm not sure how that doesn't matter unless your troops are walking, in which case you're better off with a real tank anyways.
  18. A US mech infantry platoon (Bradley) and a Soviet mech infantry platoon (BMP-2) both have 22 men, but the Soviets fit into 3 BMPs while the Americans need 4 Bradleys. 4x287=1,136 vs 3x298=894. I think any way you slice it you're always paying more for the same carry capacity with Bradleys even though the squads fit because the US made the squads fit by reducing their size.
  19. If I were evaluating these vehicles as light tanks I'd certainly give the advantage to the Bradley. But these are IFVs, and you would have to buy 25% more Bradleys to transport the same number of men you could in BMPs. That's no small thing.
  20. Rain/snow/fog/mist/haze affect thermals but temperature does not. Smoke and dust have no effect on thermals except for IR blocking smoke (red phosphorous, and only exists in Black Sea). The modeling is somewhat simplistic in this regard.
  21. I'm pretty sure it makes a big difference. If it's not that would be a bug for sure.
