  1. Everywhere I go I have to pay more for things these days. I remember as a young boy I could buy a candy bar for a nickel. Just yesterday I paid over $20 for a take out dinner. I have a choice though, I can accept reality for what it is or I can complain about how others (the world in general) aren't meeting my expectations (do I ever turn that around and wonder how I feel about not meeting the expectations of others?). Here's the thing, I have never seen anyone go into a restaurant and ask them to lower their prices. I assume most people just go to a different restaurant if they are unhappy with any aspect of the restaurant in question. I know I do. Why not go somewhere things please you rather than whining? All this whining about pricing reminds me of the beggars I see every day in the city (a large reason I don't like spending time in the city). I get you guys don't want to pay what BF thinks is a fair price. Why are you still here? Why not go picket a restaurant you think is overpriced and let the world know how you feel about them instead, thereby sparing the contented customers here the endless whining about your not getting a free or discounted ride?
  2. I get it... but I am more like Pelican Pal in that I have a large number of other games installed that I find time to play - my SOP is about disk space coupled with the notion that if a game doesn't get finished we can usually start a new one. Oh, and your use of artillery is bordering on genius if I was ever going to use the single install as a convenient excuse to quit a game because things weren't going my way...
  3. In my mind (addled, I admit), this is more reason to make this a module and add scenarios and campaigns. I say this as one who is happy to have purchased the pack and who endorses the pack concept. I view the pack concept as mostly an addition to multi-player upon release, since the most accessible way to enjoy the content is in a QB. I believe QB's are vastly superior when played against a human opponent (again, my opinion - not reality). I enjoy playing scenarios against others, but I believe it is not a big deal to modify existing scenarios to include new content for h2h play (actually more flexible than QB's because one can include more nationalities and branches this way... but you have to trust your opponent) I also don't get the bit about "fragmenting" the pbem community. I have one install. I play with people who have the same content as me. I upgrade after giving them a heads up and if they choose to not upgrade our in process game is over. I'm not going to lose any sleep over not completing a game under these circumstances because I can always start a new one and my opponent can as well. I am pretty sure I play with mature people who can handle not finishing a game, yet this theory has never been tested because the people I play with always seem to want their CM the same way I want mine - up to date. What has been clear to me for a long time (which doesn't make it reality, btw) is that the true value of CM is the editor and its ability to allow users to create new content. This is what makes the game one that can be enjoyed for a long, long time, even without the upgrade path (people are still making new content for CMSF). So, for me, the value of the pack is its long term impact on the game. When it comes to CM, I am one who wants more content, not less. I also understand that I don't have the slightest idea of development costs. I also remember a post by Steve that acknowledged the unfortunate fact that the cost of the product has different impacts on different people, especially on those who don't live in the US. When I started computer gaming in the late 80's I thought long and hard before spending $40 on a title, so I feel I understand the concept of not purchasing a product based on my valuation of the product. What I don't understand is coming on the forum and announcing that the price is too high or unjustified by the amount of content. Or that because a patch hasn't been released in a time frame that suits me I will never buy a product from that company again. I would advise those folks to watch out for the door as they leave.
  4. This sounds great... as long as you don't let the Beta guys use developmental stuff against the rest of us
  5. ^^^ This... I'm currently about 50% done with my first attempt at making a CMx1 style operation (inspired by some CMSF custom pbems with MarkEzra) for CMBN. One will need the kitchen sink to play it (along with a 64 bit box). It will be best played h2h but I am determined to make it single player as well if I can. None of us knows the cost of making this pack so I don't think there is a rational basis for challenging the price.
  6. I consider this post irrefutable proof that you, Ken, have a sock puppet account here on the forum. (and a sock puppet Beta Tester account as well) Now lets watch as your 3rd sock puppet account is revealed swearing by all that is good and holy that it has seen you and this "sburke" fella in the same place at the same time.
  7. Appreciate this... http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1527262&postcount=39
  8. Falke88, have you looked here: http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=110736 I think he is open to help if you are interested in joining forces...
  9. No preference... I try to keep a game of each going. I just had a discussion of a CMSF match the other day (it has been too long).
  10. edited because I just read Ian's post, which covers everything I wrote and more (plus he presented it in a thoughtful and intelligent manner).
  11. PP, if you "must" play with a certain individual and they don't have what you have, and have no interest in acquiring it, (I admit I only play with people who have what I have so I am not sure of what happens if you let the "content limited" party start the game) then you "must" help them out if you are dead set on playing with that certain individual. The more sensible option is to play with people who have what you have, don't you think?
  12. Ummm... I'm not really sure I want to step into this (yes, I am making that analogy ). Well, to Hell with better judgement, here goes. All this time I thought I have been playing the game the easy way. I play against people who have the same version of the game I do; there is nothing hard about it. I have one install of the game. I have gifted friends games over the years (my Steam collection is over 100 which is nowhere near yours). Some of those games have been CM titles (including modules). My grandson recently showed an interest in CM for the first time, guess who bought him his copy. So, for me, the easy way is to play with people who have the same version of the game I do. If I "need" to play against someone who doesn't have the same version I do I make sure he/she has it so "my" need can be met.
  13. No, I am not becoming a grog, but I was curious about the turrets and as a result I found this (which explains the May 44 date). http://www.ospreypublishing.com/articles/world_war_2/German_use_of_tank_turrents/
  14. Dude! Why won't you attach to my halftrack?
  15. May 1944 only... found in infantry and mech infantry categories of both German Army and Luftwaffe.
  16. I have uninstalled and reinstalled on my laptop. I still have the issue. I asked a friend to start the campaign on his computer and send me the saved setup file which he did. When I loaded that saved game the gun was where it is supposed to be. I wonder if anyone else with this problem could confirm that in the first battle the gun's base is on the SW corner tile of the map while the gun is hovering in space ~100m below. edit: ticket submitted
  17. It has been hard to determine what changes will set off the DRM. In the past I've had to re-activate due to changing the usb drivers on my system. I know BF wasn't happy with the sensitivity of the DRM in the past and I don't know how much it has changed since then. Since they are the ones providing support when the DRM is too sensitive their interests match ours.
  18. It is a good question... I thought it had something to do with the gun being towed by the halftrack (for a while I thought it was due to the map edge because when I deleted and then added the gun back in it wouldn't attach to the halftrack until I moved it away from the edge), but in the last battle it is supposed to be deployed and is missing. But now I am pondering the same question you are. I ceasefired my way through again and was able to locate the gun in every scenario but the last one. In every battle where it is supposed to be connected to the halftrack its base is on the SW corner of the map, in "crossing the dives" the gun was on its base, in the others the gun was off the map below its base. In two of the 3 scenarios where it starts deployed it is on the map. In the last battle there is no trace of it that I can find. By crew location I assume it is supposed to start the battle behind a section of bocage (successfully done in two other scenarios in this campaign). I am assuming a different issue is preventing it from being in the battle than when it is supposed to be hooked up to the halftrack since I couldn't find a base for it anywhere on the map - including in buildings and underwater. I have tried to recreate the issue in the editor and have so far been unsuccessful when using a fresh map so I am hopeful this is a one-off deal. It is puzzling none the less.
  19. Mad Mike created CMx2_ScAn_CaDe_v1.5 (googling will take you to GaJ's place) which can extract battles from campaigns. I have tried ceasefiring through the campaign and in two of the scenarios where the guns starts out setup rather than towed it is there. Unfortunately the very last battle has it setup and it is not there. What is your pc config?
