Whether the author is a CM expert or has never played the game in his life (which I doubt) doesn't really matter any more than if the typesetters have played the game. It looks as if he's been commisioned because of his ability in compiling strategy guides. The information will be coming from BFC and the beta-testers, it's simply the author's job to organise it and present it in a readable format, which is the advantage the guide has over trawling througn the Tips and Tricks, where the information is disorganised, full of grammatical and spelling mistakes and not easily accessible offline. Personally I'm willimg to pay $22 for that, an amount which wouldn't even pay for an evening in the pub in rip-off Britain .

Books on the Eastern Front
Firefly replied to Richard Marchand's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I'll leave sticking the boot into that old Nazi liar Carell to Foxbat and Andreas and content myself with Sven Hassel. Hassel was a Danish con-man who spent most of WW2 in prison for impersonating a Gestapo officer. His books were pure works of fiction (and not too bad at that), but of course, old con-men never die and he had to pretend they were based on his real life experiences. He never did explain how he came by the super powers that allowed him and his comrades to fight on the Western and Eastern fronts at exactly the same time though. -

If you're using Win XP, you can also right click on the connection icon (it looks like two monitors) in the Control Tray on the bottomright of the screen, select 'Status', then click on 'Details'. I can't remember if this was the same in Win 9x. [ December 08, 2002, 07:13 AM: Message edited by: Firefly ] -
Actually if the next game does include North Africa, this wouldn't be too ahistorical.

Edited out because I didn't realise there was a Page 2 and Bastables already gave the same quote. [ December 06, 2002, 01:10 AM: Message edited by: Firefly ] -
CM3 before the engine rewrite ?
Firefly replied to Sigurd's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I agree, I think a lot of people probably don't understand the development cycle. Sitting down and writing the code is only part of it and normally happens towards the end of the project. -
I think he means the one in the manual (the .pdf part for us lucky CDV owners), which appears to have been written by someone who never mastered the art of telling his right from his left, a cesspooler no doubt. I don't know where the corrections are though, I just gave up on it and let the AI slaughter me.

Nice to see you here Martin, couldn't resist the Ostfront eh . I agree with the multi-turreted vehicles and they need to work out a way of modelling the Grant/Lee, if as planned we're all off to the Med for the next one.

Go here and download the Stalingrad pack. You won't regret it . -
Currently playing 4 PBEMs, 2 in BO, 2 in BB. I don't play BO against the AI any more though. One effect I've noticed is that I use my infantry much more carefully in BO these days though .

I believe it was on the cover disc of a recent issue of PC Gamer in the UK. I don't know about the US version though.
