Great analogy. A puzzle with 10,000 pieces of the same shape would be challenging. It also would be marketed to only a slice of the puzzle market. CMBO was revolutionary in its "realism" step change, and hooked me. CMBB and CMAK being evolutionary fixed some of things I didn't like about CMBO but also introduced some new things I didn't like. My expectation of CMX2 is that it will be revolutionary relative to CMBO. I look forward to it. In the limit, though, there is a lot about war that is waiting, boring and frustrating even amidst a heated battle. This speaks to some amount of diminishing returns in "fun" relative to "realism." I trust the designers to find the balance, this being a very subjective thing (recall the 10k puzzle). I think adding a "soul," as Steve characterized it previously, would offset the diminishing returns in Fun I experienced between CMBO and CMBB (never bought CMAK).

I could use a new game. I had only played CM games since the CMBO demo came out, but I now play nothing (and didn't buy CMAK). I think I'm ready for the next big thing.

In Praise of the Cold War for CMX2… markII.

No posts from anybody that would know anything. I'll skulk away till something good comes out from somebody that knows something about this next big thing. -
Ahhh... patch complete then the bones can start. Hopefully. Yes, Juardis tipped me off to my misplaced belief the fair grogdorosh had taken his bow.
-
No. I didn't do a search. Have pretty much stopped playing CMBB/CMAK till the new engine is released... (Just a stage, I'm playing no games now). Also heard that Grog Dorosh is gone. Man, that really breaks me up... *sniff*

This is a "campaign" mode I would support. Good idea there, Scip. -
Aaargghh !! Possible bug here !!! pic inside

Is it because it's the French version of the game? [shame, shame on you Havermeyer] -
In Ops it's nice to put ambush zooks in abandoned vehicles. Specially if your opponent doesn't toggle vehicles (alt-v as mentioned) or play with bases (though even with bases it's hard to see the troop under the vehicle). Off topic, I know, but it bought me a crack Panther once.

What can we expect from CMX2?

Thanks, Dan. That's pretty cool. CAN'T WAIT. Well, maybe CMAK will help me wait. -

Could someone explain bump mapping to a layman (i.e., I've only played CM games since pre-ordering BO)? Thanks. -
Yes the HT rotate is excruciating. I haven't done it enough to remember how much it sucks until I'm watching the movie and see the dangnable thing has only turned 10 degrees or some such in 60s.

I'll bump this because I don't know what the devil he's talking about. -
The Official v1.04 Patch Thread

pull it tight, too. -
I was thinking of something similar. Playing a CMBO Op the field is littered with KO'd vehicles from previous battles. Be nice if there was a burned out set of bitmaps and turretless tanks, and maybe even turrets littering the field. It would be only momentary eye candy/atmospherics, as most of my play is concentrated on the game in that turn. Perhaps I've given a good reason why the return for effort negates pursing this... And while BFC is at it, could they also...

Is CM:BB still worth it?
-Havermeyer- replied to GenSplatton's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Welcome back, GenSplatt. Be nice to get you back into the BoB... Anywho. I play both still. I'm playing CMBB very poorly right now, and I can't say I'm enjoying it as much as I was when winning in CMBO. But given time (and unlearning CMBO skills) I'll probably enjoy it much more than CMBO. It looks fantastic out of the box and the penetration modeling and AFV death clock make CMBB a MUCH better game. As to getting some CMBB PBEM games in prior to CMAK, that's up to you and the amount of time you can play. No end to players (unless you're interested in only kicking Greywolf's tuckus). -
Aircraft... are they worth it!?
-Havermeyer- replied to Brigadier's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I'm playing with quite a few right now since they are so much cooler than in CMBO. I have had mixed to poor results employing them. After starting these games I happened across a post by "Steve" (BFC "Steve") who said he would never purchase airpower in a QB. Can't recall why-- whether it was ineffectiveness or he'd rather be able to throw arty or move a tank around (i.e. maintain control of his assets). -
Well... this will help keep my guns alive. I just need to run over, catch some troopers and move them back next to my 88's. Yippee! This one looks problematic if true.

Shell flight path computation bug (severe)
-Havermeyer- replied to Tankist's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Seen it hapen to me. VERY FRUSTRATING. I had a nice position with clear LOS to an AFV and have watched it miss horribly short, I presume in a hill but me eyes ain't so good. Many shots. I've ordered the offending vehicle out into the open to die a death fitting his poor shooting.
