Err it has been known for a very long time that amphibians like frogs are good indicators of the damage we are doing via pollution.  Alex Jones hopping onto the bandwagon and maybe for once getting something right is a kin to a broken clock.  And no I won't watch the video.  I'd rather smear feces up my nose and snort real hard than listen to that gas bag.
I spend my time reading stuff from educational institutions and the like, you know where people actually study science.

A pity his medical teams don't get the same level of PPE, mind you our UK staff don't either...

Ohhh and then I  just saw this....

Does it really? Hmmm China makes money from supplying the world with goods used by humans.  Hmm let's shut down the whole world economy and put our own population out of work, get them really mad at the leadership and ferment political change....
That sounds like a cunning plan Baldric would come up with!

The UK has the ONS office for national statistics and they are doing work on trying to get an accurate picture of what is really happening. It is politically independent.

Thanks AKD reading that article now starts to make sense in how the Virus is being weaponised in the American Election.
Link the democrats to the stay at home orders and they become the bad cop that  the Republican supporters can turn against, they generate mass support because people have lost jobs so drag in a wider support base...
The Democrats ruined the economy, the Republicans would have saved the economy but ohh those evil Democrats want to destroy your freedom to infect folk...
    Joy....
And there I was thinking it was about saving lives and based upon past experience then protecting the economy as you have more people alive to generate and create the economy.

American flu, That was me being cheeky...
Thanks for the interesting article this bit really made me wonder...
Hmm saving lives has a better economic outcome...
    "The economic impact of shutdowns
A study published this year argued that cities that acted early and aggressively to impose social distancing to limit the spread of the Spanish flu actually performed better economically after the pandemic was over than those that did not. Fewer workers had died, and the local population more quickly resumed normal economic behavior, three economists found."

If you are new then look out for George MC scenarios, he is one of the top dogs in scenario design!
As for your wish list I doubt any of those will happen but always happy to be wrong. I would love early war WW2 or 80's cold war...
I am just thankful the company has existed and is still running as they are still the top dogs for combat simulations.

Just to remind everyone that no matter the various opinions/theories on how best to cope with the current pandemic... all of the really key decisions about it were made back in January & February.
In the ancient days of 2006, it was known what those decisions had to be...
    "Country-based contingency plans for the
next influenza A pandemic should there- fore largely focus resources on facilitating treatment, monitoring and control of new cases at home. Once case numbers exceed a few hundred in source areas, only rapidly implemented and almost total restriction of international travel can prevent the export of cases and the triggering of new epidemics in unaffected areas. The efforts of the WHO and the international community should be targeted at bringing any emerging influenza epidemic under control as rapidly as possible in the country in which the new strain first emerges. Success in this task is likely to be the dominant factor in restricting international spread."   The key question for those who survive this Pandemic (& the wrecked economy it will bring) is why are the people of 2020 seemingly less rational than the people of 2006*?   * Not counting North Korea who closed their borders before the Wuhan lockdown(!).

I have over the years run many of these games and the insight you get is really important to understanding how battles happen.
It is usually more down to the orders and when units receive them than the actual combat. It is difficult to explain and I  will try and note some examples from my current Sealion game which finally started last night once I got orders from the last allied player.
Usually I run them FtF and try to have an umpire per player so with 3 a side we end up with 6 umpires and me.
Each umpire talks to their player to work out what they intend.  This then gets brought back to master map in an area away from the players eyes and ears. I collate the information update the map and resolve any combat. Each umpire notes what their player should be aware of and then goes back and updates the player.
Messages between players are sorted by me and sent to the right player after the appropriate time delay.
The key to winning is usually how well players coordinate and respond to messages and the situation,  combat often the least important aspect...
Running a  pbem version is a bit more of an overhead for me and trying to get every one lined up harder...

Well too late now but Paddy re ran the game on the 26th April 2009 and I was the ground umpire.
An interesting insight into the process and often these games are better in your imagination than in practice.

I just checked the cast and Andreas who used to frequent here a long time ago took the role of Hitler. Watching a German play Hitler was very interesting and he was perhaps too good at it!
I have the debrief that I  might post some notes from if there is interest.
I think our version was a pale imitation of the original game and Paddy was past his peak and perhaps should not have tried to re live it...
As it happens due to lockdown I am currently running a Sealion Battalion level Kriegsspiel game for some of the Oxford Wargamers but it just focuses on a small action around the River Arun...

There were 11 special purpose motorized battalions created since spring 1944. Their task was maintaining of forcing the rivers by rifle units or crossing the rivers themeselves, also troopers of that battalions received sapper training and were able to clear mines and wire obstacles in the places of landing along the rivers. Typical TO&E HQ + 2 x motorized companies per 3 platoons per 3 squads with amfibious vehicle each + mortar battery per 3 platoons per 3 mortar crews with amph.veh each + sapper company with 3 amph.veh and 5 trucks. + maintennance company
There are FORD-GPA and(or) GMC-DUKW were on armamemt. I can't say anything about PIATs/Bazookas in these units, but UK really sent to USSR 1000 PIATs and 100000 projectiles to them.
In neighbor thread about Warsaw uprising I've meant some Soviet "amphibious battalion", which maintained attempts of Polish Army to take bridgehaeds on westrn bank of Visla - there was 274th  special purpose motorized battalion. Further in Berlin operation about half of all these units participated.

What I have found photo wise is some of the games I ran where I had a bit more time, this is an image of the small scale Sealion game I ran in June 2009, it is a map and counter game where the players do not get to see the master map and the umpires move the units based upon the player orders.

    Hi Bil,
Hope you are still enjoying your wine, as it happens I know a few folk in the DC area and once this play test is completed I  plan to run it for them, I shall invite you at same time. Better to keep folks together in the same time zone.
A few years ago I ran a Vietnam Hue map game for them just via locked forums on the Kriegsspiel web site.
As for Paddy's game when I get on my PC I will see what of interest I can share.
I seem to remember you have moved south of Richmond?
My yearly trip in July to Historicon looks very doubtful at this stage so I need to focus on online gaming, the chaps in DC are using discord not sure what they are playing but hopefully I will get an insight soon...
    Stay safe...

Testing is the key, you have to know you are safe to others and safe from others, this has to be way forward until vaccine is available.

    Some examples is below.
The question about "No playing the German side butchering civilians" is disqussional. Any civilian, who takes a weapon in the hands and put some sort of insignias consider itself like combatant. Also Polish side except own formations in Soviet army also had own partisan wovement - Armia Krajowa (supports legal government in exile) and Armia Ludowa (support pro-communist political forces of Poland).

You do have access to 203mm artillery in the game, its just not on-map. CM wasn't built for standing in place and pummeling at static fortification (though you can make scenarios that do it, if you want). I'm reminded of back in CMSF1 days when Steve said they were not modeling 'occupation duties' (a.k.a. Iraq), with its associated equipment, but combined arms tactical combat centered around an invasion scenario (or words to that effect). I expect on this topic he'd probably say their mission statement was never modeling siege warfare.
