Ales Dvorak reacted to Mord in Will Santa Steve ride tomorrow night?
Throughout the past wargamers all over the world (the groggy, semi-groggy and non-groggy alike) have gathered on December 24th, in a far corner of the internet, to await the arrival of Santa Steve. It is a storied tradition that has been passed from father to son, and son to another son, and that son to his imaginary friend, Jim. For what? at least four years now? So, it's time-honored. Like drunken derelicts in a Mexican whorehouse, a whiskey, beer, (or in Emrys' case, egg nog spiked with ex-lax) in hand, they jostle excitedly to be the first to sight the legendary WaffenKringle of the Great Northern East. For they know, with his arrival come tidings of war and what shape that war will take in the following year. It's the kinda joy that brings a tear to a grown man's eye and divorce papers from that same guy's wife.
However, this December an old friend from the desert landed in a LZ that normally would be abuzz with the cries of "BONES! BONES! BONES!" This friend had lost ten years, and gained ten pounds, and looked like a million bucks! Seemingly sated and awash in desert badassery most have turned their attention to blowing the crap out of Syrian crewed T-72s or RPGing a Leopard or three. So, it begs the question, with our old friend to keep us knee deep in cordite and the WaffenKringle elves busy as only WaffenKringle elves can be, will Santa Steve ride tomorrow night? Will all the good little wargamers gather in the hopes that Santa Steve soon will be here? Or will it be the year without a Santa Steve? I for one hope to spy him drudging out of the snowy wilderness, brain-in-a-jar in hand, the pockets of his coveralls packed to the brim with CM news and wargaming goodness. But regardless as to whether it happens or not, I am thankful our stockings were stuffed early with SF2. It was a great ending to a very dry year! Here's to killing it in 2019; Russian winters and Brazilian waxings in North Italia!
    Merry Christmas, Fellas!!

    +1
CM has given me countless hours of the best game entertainment ever since 2000 for less than a dime a day.

But why not, if it turns out to be the best game you´ve ever purchased?

I have bought scores of games during the last couple of decades - and CMBN was surely the most expensive single purchase. But most of the cheap games I´ve bought were probably cheap because nobody wanted to pay full price for them. So in some cases I have paid 10 $ for a game I have scrapped after two hours. 10 $ might be cheap for a game - but is 5 $ an hour cheap?

The 60 $ I paid  for CMBN has given me thousands of hours worth of enjoyable gameplay for the past seven years. So in terms of cent pr. hour it is the cheapest game I ever bought.

Everytime when I bought a computer the last 18 years, the first and most important thing is that Combat Mission is running smoothly on it. I love to plan, see the replays and the unbelivable variation in these games. Best thing since I played wit 1/72 Airfix figures in my youth.

I don't hear BF moaning about anything... The answer to when it's coming out is when it's ready. On the store page it clearly says the product is not finished and won't ship until  it is finished. If you preorder under those circumstances you aren't entitled to anything except the product when it's finished. If you don't like those clearly published terms don't preorder...

Nice video - looks like it will be a great game. Would be interesting to see a "side by side"-comparison with SF1.
One thing though, can we please have some new background sounds? Chirping birds in a desert setting just doesn't feel right.

Just goes to show you how gamey all those "realistic" RTS titles really are, don't it? Real world tactics invoke real world outcomes in CM, more so than any other game at this level that I can think of. No health bars, no armor hit points, no base rushing, just good old fashion tactics. A lot of your problems will be unlearning exploits and "tactics" that you picked up while playing pretenders. The CM1 guys had a similar problem when they transitioned from the old titles to the new engine because of the change in fidelity and abstractions. But whatever you do, don't get frustrated, once you get it you'll be rewarded with years of fun.

Think of 'bugs grogs' this way. Imagine an automobile discussion site, posters complaining bitterly that the Toyota Avalon has no feature to keep a driver from driving purposefully off a cliff. Yes, they're right, the Avalon doesn't have that feature, but is that an unconscionable design flaw or is that simply how cars work. That being said, CMSF2 is on the near horizon and a new title release invariably means new patch updates for all of the other titles to keep the game engine current across the board.
Its death to over-think a game purchase.
Its a game. Buy the game! The basegame is the price of a single big city restaurant meal (If you have to pay to park then its cheaper). No, you don't need to buy all of the modules and packs at once (or at all) in order to enjoy the game. Players were perfectly happy playing the basegame for years before the first module showed up. If you want 'more' then purchase more as your mood and finances allow. Instead of overanalyzing just think "Blowin' up Shermans/IS2s/T-64s/Renault FT-17s on a 3-d battlefield!
And finally... the DEMOS. Download the free demos and play the crap out of 'em. Play until you experience tunnel metacarpal syndrome. Then purchase the full game.

Well the part-time job as an MP didn't pay. I got a full time job as a General, which paid fairly well, but the work ran out. So I went for the role as Lord Protector and got it. The pay was great, and Elizabeth was able to afford the finest cuts of meat, and the butcher called her Ma'am, instead of Mrs Cromwell.
