  1. Magnum, Have a look at Chris Hare's site here. Just remember to select all the data IN the sheet and press another font colour. For some reason all the data are in a white font on a white background and it looks as if the worksheets contain no information. Chris used an earlier version of Excel to compile the data and it does not always convert to a non-white font if you have a current MSExcel version. 3. CombinedArms, Rest assured that those gentlemen that have played in all 3 RoW's will have preference to newcomers and existing Vets . It seems there will only be place for 72 players, with a back-up list of few players in case RL inteferes with the players schedule.
  4. Ahh, trust Chris Hare, the master of minute detail, to update all and sunder. Much obliged CA.

  6. There was a CMBB excel chart that showed the availability of AFV's as they were introduced (per month/year) in the different regions. Anyone working on a CMAK similiar chart or have it finished? 12. Enlightened. Much obliged. I will now lobby that the moderator of this forum limit you to 20,000 posts only. Sincerely, Charl Theron ---------------------------------------------- “Immobility and a rigid adherence to pattern are bad enough in European warfare; in the desert they are disastrous. Here everything is in flux; there are no obstructions, no lines, water or woods for cover; everything is open and incalculable. The commander must adapt and reorientate himself daily, almost hourly, and retain his freedom of action. Everything is in motion; he must be constantly on the alert, all the time on the edge of capture or destruction by a more cunning, wide awake or versatile enemy. There can be no conservatism in thought or action, no relying on tradition or resting on the laurels of previous victory. Speed of judgement and action to create changing situations and surprises for the enemy faster than he can react, never making dispositions in advance – these are the fundamentals of desert tactics.” -- Erwin Rommel
  13. Michael/Shoerner, speaking of rank and insignia: GeneralOberst (Colonel-General?) in the Wehrmacht I have seen references regarding the above, and wondered how this rank tied in with the equivalent USA/British during WWII, as some websites show there is no Brigadier-General equivalent in the German Army and others do give the insignia/rank therefore. As I understand it, the ranks of general is as follows during/end of WWII: </font> Brigadier-General (USA 1 star/British/German ?)</font>Major-General (USA 2 star/British/German)</font>Lieutenant-General (USA 3 star/British/German)</font>General (USA 4 star/British/German)</font>GeneralOberst (German) – is this “Colonel-General,” if so, I’m curious why this rank is between General and Field Marshal below? Shouldn’t it be the sequence Colonel-, Brigadier-, Major-, Lieutenant- and then full (4 star) General?</font>Field Marshal (USA 5 star/British/German)</font>Appreciate if you could enlighten me. 15. The 4 horsemen, isn't it the actor Valentino or somefink dude that was reported to be a pink dandy and tried to sue the Hollywood reporters off their butts before he himself pegged into oblivion? Dorosh, the Lawyer was supposed to arrange a pool tourney 1 year ago - me sponsering. It took so long to arrange anything among the poolers that I have removed said contribution to my sig - see below. Shall we try this again? How do I know the garden gnome will not claim the prize all by his lonesome selve? But your efforts in defending me is sporting. In fact, defending anyone in the cesspool smacks of chivalry! 18. One can only hope that the following artillery bug – let’s call it rather a cockroach - which has manifested itself in CMBB already, can be patched in CMAK, too wit: To be found on this page. Sincerely, Charl Theron ------------------------------------------------ The merit and value of the desert soldier can be measured by his physical capacity, intelligence, mobility, nerve, pugnacity, daring and stoicism. A commander of men requires these same qualities in even greater measure and in addition must be outstanding in his toughness, devotion to his men, instinctive judgement of terrain and enemy, speed of reaction and spirit. In General Rommel, these qualities were embodied in rare degree, and I have known no other officer in whom they were so combined. -- Lieutenant General Fritz Bayerlein, Chief-of-Staff and later Commander of Deutsche Afrika Korps [ December 31, 2003, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: WineCape ]

  20. 30 years ago I was still trying to learn chess. My parents thought I was a child prodigy a-la Capablanca and Samuel Rechevksy. Alas, I found a bottle of wine among my milk and that was the end of their dreams. Err, WE don't have stinkin smogg like industrial nations, just the 3 D's - dust during drought.
  21. Dear personnel at Battlefront.com (Charles, Steve, Matt, Dan, Martin, Don Quixote, Rune and all the beta testers/scenario designers + model builders of Combat Mission) I just need to thank you from a far-away continent, Africa. Charles: I need to thank you for your labour of love, spending probably 12+ hours of his day as the sole programmer on Combat Mission 1-3. Hours spending in front of the monitor, testing, programming, re-testing formulae and code. Love for something can only carry you so much. You need passion on top of love, in doses, to slug through, keeping a rational head, balancing reality and playing fun constantly with one another, trying to never yield to the former without sacrificing the latter. Combat Mission; a daunting programming series that you have excelled in. My appreciation knows no bounds. I’m no hardcore wargamer, but I’ve become one in play. Your excellence has a way of catching people off-guard – initially - when we have become accustomed to mediocrity in the gaming world. Then, after realizing that this excellence is not once-off, but the norm, you cannot help but jump in this CM river and let it take you to the rush and thunder of the fall close by. Whitewater rafting at its best! A friendly warning though: Just like officiating football, the best advice I can give is that you are only as good an official as your last match. However, you don’t need to worry, you are already on that level, the equivalent of FIFA: Professional, utmost integrity, hard working and above all, your own best critic. Keep it up. My sincerest wish is that Combat Mission will bring you great financial reward so that you can travel one day to the tip of this continent, South Africa, where I’ll play host to you and the vineyards of this region. You are most welcome to stay with us – address below – and no, not a word on CM will be mentioned during your stay. It will be a proper holiday. Steven: It seems that you are not flipping burgers for someone, but for yourself now! We miss you on the board. Customer relations started with you. Please come back. Once you have settled, my invitation extends to you too. You can go sky diving with me to keep the thrill up once you’re here, as I have no weasel to ferry you around, or armored cars though. Matt, Dan, Moon, Rune and Fernando The first 4 rhymes! If ever in South Africa, give me a call. Don’t insult me by not staying with us. Address below. Rune, thank you for the MAJOR effort in getting SA forces into CMAK! My invitation to stay with us in Stellenbosch, 35 km from Cape Town, naturally extends to all CM players – even the 4 horsemen - if they are in South Africa and short on accommodation. God bless all and have a festive, safe season. Sincerely, Charl Theron 90 Dorp Street, Stellenbosch, South Africa (yes, this is the sunshine country Nelson Mandela calls home!)
