  1. No pun or flames intended to Italians here but here goes: The thinnest book in the Rome state library is the "Citation book for bravery medals awarded to Italians during combat in WWII" A JOKE Gentleman, a JOKE!!
  2. Sorry, me spelling is woeful in the above post, there being no spellchecker here on the BB. English my 3rd Language here! BTW, I predict this posting will be running longer that a 1000 replies, hehe
  3. Now consider this: Some of my previous country men/woman sat in relation to the ongoings in Europe during WWII at the bottom side of the world (South Africa!). What do they decide? Yes! we agree with the hole Nazi ideology. Can you belive this: They decide to start an institution called the Ossewa Brandwag, freely translated from the Afrikaans language to English it means the Flaming Horse-cart watchmen, siding with the Black gumboot 'uns in all their Nazi splendour! Ha! Never under estimate the power of "Night rituals on the human spirit. Clandestine night meetings, dagger oaths the works. Silly buggers I say, but according to my grandmother (age 82) comment when quizzed about this rationale of suuporting Hitler "It DID look NICE -- all these black clad dissiplined men!" Serious?!? I suppose the bad-ass look factor counts here for me, hehe. Murphy's law on artillery: Friendly fire it aint!
  4. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by guachi: Sheesh. I never even downloaded 1.04. Jason<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> And now Jason has probably more work than ever before to update his nifty Excel97 Unit Data Base!! Now guys, I have not even received the game here in South Africa after ordering it in end of July! Never mind versions 1.0-->1.05. I am collecting music CD's (read: CM patches up to 1.05) before I'd receive the a music centre!!! (Read: THE GAME by the name called Combat Mission) Patience is running thin, though me being in the wine trade is a virtue!! Steve was gracious enough to replace the original ordered game after transit time was more than 20 days. They consider this a lost game. Thanks guys, but if I do not get this game in my hands SOON I will buy a plane ticket and fly to your damn State in the USA to collect it. THIS IS EXCRUCIATING reading the fun here on the BB with only the Demo in my possession!!!!!!!!!! Ciao. Charl Theron Stellenbosch, South Africa
  5. Damn, I think I have forgotten to proper hotlink html the web address above! Anyone there to refresh me!
  6. Thanks DesertFox for this reference: David Honner has done a wonderful job presenting tons of penetration data and background information on his website. Pay him a visit at [url=http://www.wargamer.org/GvA/ This is for the REAL Combat Mission addicts that want to compare the weapons data of different nations during WWII. Well layed out. I wonder if BTS has seen/used/compiled some of this information in CM. As BTS themselves said, there is not written in stone penetration data for guns, but an approximation. At least BTS must be applauded for doing the trouble to reference the different authors on this topic to make this game real life as close as possible + playable Thanks Steve and Charles!! Charl Theron
  7. Brilliant thread and well put. It is what Charles and Steve at BTS called lateral thinking with the material/men/AFV etc. that you have at your disposal with there inherent weaknesses and strengths! Charl Theron Stellenbosch, South Africa
  8. For those more inclined to read excellent WWII tactics on tanks (German/Allied) herewith the following details taken from the same posting in the Tips section: Thanks MadDog0606 for your info! A} German Squad Tactics in WWII by Matthew Gajkowski. 5. German Panzer Tactics in WWII (by Charles C. Sharp) They can be bought at http://home.fuse.net/nafziger/index.html, though it is not a secure buying site. Nevertheless, MadDog0606 reported he bought over the phone ($20 each) and the books arrived duly a week later.
  9. Thats one good thing with BTS developers. They give people like Jason a hard time staying up with the facts because the revise/patch the game regularly! Sorry Jason, being sharp and up to date is tricky with Steve and Charles. BUT, don't stop. Your work is appreciated nevertheless!! Charl
  10. Thanks Frenchy DeanCo, who is compiling a GameSpot GameGuide Tacticts handbook on CM will be delighted! Keep well and blast the enemy out of the foxholes! Charl Theron Stellenbosch, South Africa
  11. The following German webring site with Jason McGrody's excellent firepower charts is also very helpful for CM addicts! http://www.gamesofwar.de/
  12. Thanks Panzerleader and Maddog for your insight. We are helping DeanCo to find the most relevant material as he is writing a "Primer" in the Gamespot GameGuide. Charl Theron Stellenbosch, South Africa
  13. Great work nevertheless! Keep it up! WineCape
  14. DeanCo Have a look at "guachi's" posting on 8/21/2000 @ 02:52 am. Seems pretty darn helpful! WineCape
  15. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by deanco: Hi winescape I am working on a website that will be exactly that, a 'GameSpot GameGuide' to CM, with only the most basic stuff in it. I'm using good advice I see on this forum, and other sources, to flesh it out. I can't say when it will be up though, there is a ****load of work to do, and nothing does itself. I want it to be pretty complete before I put it up, with sections on tactics, units, maps, etc. so a new player can consider it his one stop shopping place for info on CM. I'll keep everyone posted. DeanCo--<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Hi Deanco If you need help with this especially with web address references I will be happy to oblige and make the Tactics Handbook as complete as possible. Let me know what information you are looking for. Cheers, Charl Theron "WineCape"
  16. Thanks also Minnesota Joe, Chupacabra, Wayne for the quick replies. I will be sourcing battle tactics info soon and post it for other gamers to pour over. The best would be I suppose rather to have web references pointing every now and then to the latest Tactics sections. Still waiting for my game here in SOUTH AFRICA! --The most dangerous thing on a battlefield is a one pip Luitenant with a map.
  17. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by fatherof6: Try the Article section at CMHQ http://combathq.thegamers.net/articles/articles.asp . If you poke around in some of the other CMHQ sections you'll find a wealth of good information. But I'm not aware of any single "Primer" posted on the net. Glenn<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Thanks Glenn for the info! -- The most dangerous thing on a battlefield is a one pip Luitenant with a map.
  18. I was wondering: Is there a CM tactics Handbook (do's & do'nts) that will help/guide the CM gamer in better understanding the different tactics of say tanks, infantry (in general) and the like? Especially for those players that is new to the wonderful word of wargaming. Could such a "primer" not be written with the help of the very people here on the bulletin board? I read some very useful information on the usage of Half Tracks in the Tech section. That will obviously be of great value to fellow gamers if posted under the section e.g. "A Combat Mission Primer" edited/compiled by the grognards here! Likewise the best ways to handle tanks in wooded areas, when to use 60mm and 81mm Mortars etc. What do you guys (in the know) say? Shall we call it the " The Combat Mission Primer/Tactics Handbook" then? Preface to the CM Primer:-- "Remember that no dumb bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for *his* country." --General S. Patton (US Army)-- PS: Mind you, the Americans were prone to yelling "TIGER!!!" even if it was a Kübelwagen sighted. [Allied (panic) reaction in the Ardenne offensive of WWII !!
