  1. Hey Nomaar, welcome aboard... We've been all over that one, and COS, 3R, and about every other game ever made about WWII... While they look the same, SC has a lot of good things going for it, most importantly the AI. Did you buy it yet? It's only $25 bucks, and you'll have a bunch of guys here who will gladly PBEM. TCP/IP is in the works for it as well!! See you on the battlefield! Aloid [ August 02, 2002, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: Aloid ]
  2. My comment is burried in the "Beta/Demo" thread. I figured enough people would look at a new post in that thread. I see that Disturbedmisfit started one specific to SC... good man. Aloid
  3. This is killing me... Maybe I'll take Monday off... Aloid
  4. See, I knew I was going to be last in line... Even if I get it this weekend, I've got the father in-law over, which means the guest/gaming room is occupied... Maybe he can sleep on the couch! heh! Aloid
  5. I just posted a note about SC being out over on the HOI forum... sneeky me... Perhaps, we should fan out and post the good word on other forums... what so you! Aloid
  6. ... this is painful... I'm in Los Angeles, and I'm sure the Left Coast will get theirs after the Brits... I my have to stop looking at this thread... it's just too much to handle... Aloid
  7. Ladies and Ladies... WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! Now I really hate you! heh! Continue gloating with all the screen shots of the game and your 22-incher, you can!!! Aloid
  8. Until I see a screen shot.... this is just a red herring... Not that I don't trust you... but, if I had it, I would gloat by way of proof! heh! I'm just that way.... hahahahahaha! Aloid (I really hope you do have it)
  9. Can't save the turns... or so I thought... Don't really want to go back to the beta demo... Aloid
  10. Ha, by now you've had Hubert inserting special code just for your version, just to get you to stop posting about the Fins!!! I envision half the map belonging to Finland at the games start! I'm certainly up for a go at PBEM. Email me when you get the game... Aloid I'm not 14, I do care, I'm not lazy, I like purdy pictures of big tanks!
  11. .... oh, I was dreaming.... Well, first one with a 1943 screen shot wins!!! hmmmm... did I pay for air-drop service... well, no paras... so, guess not... "Go back to bed", I hear from the crowd... night! Aloid
  12. Wow, with Old Patch at your service, who needs google? I learned some new a interesting info. Thanks Old Patch... Aloid [ August 01, 2002, 01:34 AM: Message edited by: Aloid ]
  13. Hubert! Tank you! Tanks to everyone! ... now, where did I put those keys to the panzer? Hubert, I hope you can sit back (for a few short breaths), and put a smile on your face! You've done what most of us dream about, and have made it happen! Congratulations on this day of shipment!! Hazah!!!! Aloid
  14. Heh, CVM... that must have struck a chord way back when... heh! I've scarred you for life!! Ha! My addiction needs soothing, so I'm here quite a bit... during breaks here and there, and late a night, when the little ones (and big momma) have gone to sleep... Must go, as work is calling... Enjoy! Aloid CVM, you're okay... enjoy that free time... it's fleeting...
  15. bump... This has been a wonderful thread! A real orgy of wargaming goodness! Now, that brings to mind a really ugly mental picture, but I'll have to get over it... heh! Aloid
  16. Okay Norse, well stated... Perhaps it's really not noise after all. I'm just not grogy enough to know. I'll still take the beer though! Aloid
  17. Guys, one thing to remember. A fleet in this game, regardless of size, stops any size fleet cold in the water for the turn it is attacked. I guess the question is, would the Sweedish navy stop anyone cold like that? Does it mess with play balance? Do we really need to add "noise" to the game in an effort to be "grogy"? I don't know the answer, but I'd guess it was no... Though I like the grogy part... especially if it's related to beer!! Aloid
  18. Hmmm... in the gold demo, Russia is always taking the baltic states pretty quickly. What level do you have the gold demo set at? What turn is France falling on? Aloid
  19. Hubert, I'm suprised that the Sweedish army is tied to the same supply rules as the other combatants. It's a well know fact that just a couple rations of Sweedish meatballs would keep an army "going" for weeks. Please fix or do somfink!! Aloid
  20. Hmmm... in the scheme of things, other than submarines and anti-sub shipping, naval warfare using major capitol ships played a very small role. Sure there were some battles, and they were cause for concern, but the channel was ruled by the air. The Med was as well to a great degree. Battleships proved to be the Albatross... Besides, I don't think the crew of the Bismark thought the aircraft carrier played a minor role... hehehehehe... I really need to play this game... Aloid
  21. I was under the impression that battleships were on their way out for this very reason. They are expensive to build, where a carrier of that time, was fairly cheap (all things considered), and the carrier was much more capable. The expensive part of the Aircraft Carrier was the air units, and pilots. But even that was not so bad (again, for it's day) I'd probably never buy a battle ship group in SC. We'll see, once we have the full game. Aloid
  22. I would suggest doing a search on google... I just did one on "Avalon Hill Luftwaffe Bookcase", and had lots of hits on the game. (I love google) Here's a link from it that shows the game laid out: http://hometown.aol.com/wergames/ahluft.htm This one has a run down of the aircraft in the game: http://pages.prodigy.net/davidkr/ah/luftwaffe.htm Hmmm... seems a lot of these hits are people trying to sell the game. So, looks like you can pick it up, if you're into it. The artwork on the counters was very detailed for each aircraft type. Aloid
  23. Oh man... I played just about all of those and more (as you have no doubt!)... I got my start on the AH Bookcase games, "Richtoffen's War", and "Luftwaffe". Both were good games, but the counters were even better!! It all went downhill from there!! Aloid
  24. Oh goodness... more goodies for breakfast! Thank you Hubert! Aloid
  25. I still have Europa tucked away in my garage!! I have every module, and actually found room (once) to setup all the maps together. It was an amazing sight! As to the WIF demo... It looks cool, but there is "NO AI"!!! I don't know if Australian Design Group has the juice to develop AI for it, and I really don't see havig the time to PBEM. Someone else mentiond that SC is a revamp of COS... sorry, not true... search on the multitude of posts on that subject... Sounds like a number of us have been around this hobby since the "board game era"... nice to know you're all out there! It's an age of gaming that was both a pain (finding space, and those damn rules books), and a pleasure (seeing a full setup of Terrible Swift Sword, DNO, Atlantic Wall, etc.). The new guys have missed out, and it's a shame. However, I wouldn't give up my 'puter either!! Long live the gamer! Aloid
