  1. Wow, a cornucopia of goodness! Bring it on! Aloid
  2. You're right in a sense... I read into his statement that the AI gets an advantage by knowing too much, seeing more than it should in FOW, etc. Many games fall back on this, while SC does not. So I guess it's this interpretation I'm defending. And I wish it would have been clarified in the review. As it stands, it's still to harsh on the AI, IMO. Aloid
  3. But the AI actually does more at a higher level of difficulty. Perhaps this is because it has the forces to... but it doesn't cheat. Aloid
  4. Sad, the reviewer should have done a search on AI to findout what the effects of +1 and +2 are. He says it's cheats, which is incorrect. I agree on research, where investment is not in effect over time (see comments in the Jet Research thread). This guy blew it, as far as I'm concerned. Aloid
  5. Guys, I think the way to deal with this is to make the new tech available only to newly purchased units (and existing units at an upgrade cost). If the AI Germans in my current game get to switch all 10+ air units to jets in a one week turn, it just isn't right... I fugure this to be an SC2 type of thing, as Hubert may have designed the active units to be only of one type at a time. As it is, that small initial investment goes awfully far, with no costs over time. The upgrade, and new purchase costs would reflect all the retooling, etc. that has to be done. Replacement costs for older tech units would be at the old costs... What say Hubert? Aloid [ August 06, 2002, 04:41 PM: Message edited by: Aloid ]
  6. Bunnies? Not here, it's pink elephants for me. BTW, you can edit the city graphic, and REALLY make it look like bunnies... tat would be great! Maybe my wife will let my oldest son (4yrs) watch (or even play) if it has to do with bunnies! hmmmm... there's an idea! Aloid
  7. Please add an alarm clock to the game, so I can set the time when I should go to bed!!! It should save the game, and shut down the whole darn computer, without giving me the chance to hit a "snooze" button!!! Please fix or do somefink! Aloid (sleepy, red, watery eyes)
  8. Does that mean, "I've read the full manual"? heh! These things confuse me you know! Aloid
  9. I am constantly out maneuvered... Aloid
  10. As the Allies, I've invaded N.Africa to kick the Italians out... then realized it's not worth the trouble... should go for S.France or Italy instead... Perhaps the AI thinks the same way? Aloid
  11. Greetings Luminary... Do a search back to the beta demo days. The reason for not having independent armorded units in SC has to do with unit organization at the time of the invasion. The old posts go through it in detail, but basically, the French/Brits were using tanks in a support role (at this strategic level), not as large scale units of maneuver. Aloid
  12. I would tend to agree JH, but in my game against the Axis, they are KILLING ME with the Luftwaffe. They must have 10+ air units, 8 of which are on the Eastern Front. I can't seem to land my AA tech, so I'm getting nailed. Forget the Red Airforce... I can't afford them... Aloid
  13. Because I want to print the dang manual! Man, I was ==| |== this close to calling in sick, but my wife countered with the "well there are lots of things to do around the house" defense. She was well dug in, and I didn't have the reserves (I was up late playing SC don't ya know) to root her out of her position. I did the next best thing... I brought the game to work! Aloid
  14. Yes indeed... it's a real back and forth fest of strategic carnage!! You guys did good work! Aloid
  15. Here's an update... The German's finally sent an air unit down to help settle the situation. Athens fell in early August 1942. The Americans are about to take Tripolitania (with Patton at the head). Wonder if the German's will really try to send troops to N.Africa in this situation. I assume that's why the German HQ is present in Greece. Also, The Germans opened a small hole in my line North or Riga. What filled the gap, but good old Model himself!!!! I had a second line waiting for a break thru, and laid into the HQ. Managed to get it to 6 points. What does the AI do? It leaves him there and pumps him up to 10. Unfortunately the line is giving in just to the East, so I can't afford to keep attacking. Must have cost the German's a fortune though!! Much to fun!!! Aloid
  16. Here's an odd sight... In Greece, The Athens Corps is holding on continuosly against the 1st and 4th Italian Armies, with the battleship fleet Vittorio Veneto adding fire support... What's odd is the German Leeb HQ standing behind these units (as if it were lending support to the italians). If there are German units behind it... the AI should swap the units. Oh well, I'm still holding Athens in Jan, 1942! Aloid
  17. First game is as Allies, on +1, 1939... Tried to invade Germany with the French, thinking the German's were too thin in the West... Well, I really stubbed my toe in doing it... Was driven back quickly, and lost France quicker than I should have otherwise... Having a blast!
  18. I'm "still" playing my first game (in-law was over since Thursday!)... 1939 as Allied on +1 (cause SuperTed said so... ) Industrial tech x2 for the Brits is going to really help them quite a bit. I can see where the Germans will need this tech as well. I think this one is key, even before big tanks!! Aloid BTW, make sure you check the research pool for Russia when they enter the war... there's a suprise waiting for you! (I missed it for three turns... doh!)
  19. After much pestering, the wife called and said there's a package which she "thinks is a CD... I don't know...", that came in the mail!!! I'm packing up and getting out of here (work) to go find out... Probably some Barney music CD my 4yr old bought on Amazon... Now, if I can just get the father-in-law to sleep on the couch tonight (and all weekend), I'll be happy! Aloid [ August 02, 2002, 08:56 PM: Message edited by: Aloid ]
  20. I'M SURROUNDED! Now my Nothern flank is in trouble... I'm sure someone in San Diego is going to get it next... I'm sure the mail man will run out of his command control (supply radius), just before reaching Los Angeles... Damn, the USPS should have bought another HQ! Aloid
  21. Double back!! Go back to playing with yourself... heh! I sure wish I was!!! doh!! Aloid
  22. NO... WAIT.... THAT WAS MY COPY YOU RECEIVED!!!! Someone has made a terrible mistake!!! Aloid (I hope mine is at home, waiting by the door... and no, I won't let you know my address !! heh!)
  23. Hmmm... isn't that technically illegal? It's bad form, at least... The game is getting to people within a couple days... wait it out... Aloid
  24. I'll bet that damn mail truck is going for an extended stop in Vegas, on it's way to Los Angeles!! Aloid
