1.
quote:
Originally posted by panzerwerfer42: Ryan, the flame effect I think he's talking about is the little pink streak occasionally emitted from a flamethrower unit.

Oh yeah, they suck!
2. JuJu's flame mod is rather nice, but I'm pretty sure the kind of effect you are talking about will have to wait for CMII (the engine re-write).
3.
quote:
Originally posted by panzerwerfer42: I've noticed lately a few people with lower member numbers than BTS, like Ben Galanti at #38. How on earth did that happen?

Ben Galanti comes before Big Time Software alphabetically. I believe this forum used to use completely different software and when the transfer to UBB was made the member numbers were reassigned alphabetically. However, IIRC, we didn't even have member numbers until the software version was upgraded a few months ago so that BTS would have a fair way of announcing the release of CM2 to the forum members.
4. And there's no QBs (that I know of) and no mods and no 14" guns and no JagdTigers and it's just not CM. But it is kind of fun. Manx, I thought you said your web hosting was paid up until the Spring. Is CM's done already?
5.
quote:
Originally posted by Juju: Aargh, I'm confused!! "CM's WILL BE SHUTTING DOWN" but "Discussions are on-going"??

It seems Manx has adopted the Madmatt method of information dissemination - say one thing and imply another. I interpret Manx's announcement to mean that COMBAT MISSIONS as we know it will disappear, but that Manx will be able to continue his work elsewhere and in a way that won't be restricted by bandwith or storage concerns. Maybe he has taken our donations and purchased the bankrupt Exodus? I am as confused as the rest of you, but I, perhaps foolishly, take the optimistic view that everything will work out for the best for all concerned.
6. Yeah, we can rent a boat, set up a LAN, and the babes will be flocking to us to play CM. What? It could happen.
7. I tried them once but I don't have the discipline to stay on ground level. If the game forced me to play at those levels it would be great. The only problem I have with playing that way is the trees in CM are mostly solid textures and don't let you see through the leaves as you would in Real Life. A vehicle could be on the other side of a few trees and you wouldn't be able to see in CM, but you probably would in RL. Otherwise I think it adds a whole new dimension to the game and you really get to appreciate the mods.
8. The problem is only going to get worse when CM2 comes out, and we will need sites like COMBAT MISSIONS even more. Manx, even though there are other great CM sites around, I think yours hosts more mods than any other except perhaps for CMHQ. The money we contribute to keep your site going in a small way helps those other sites going as well since they would be forced to try to take up the slack if CM's went down. If we don't mind making contributions then you shouldn't feel at all bad about accepting them. The hours of enjoyment I have received and continue to receive from CM more than justify the addional expense as far as I am concerned. Part of what makes CM so great is all the wonderful mods available. All the hard work done by the mod artists would be for naught if there was no place to distribute their mods. I think another great idea would be for BTS to have you run CMHQ, but that is another matter.
9. It looks like he cut and pasted the wheels from the picture at the top of the page. No shortcuts!!! But it's real purty.
10. I think someone made some a while ago, but on my computer they shimmered too much so I dumped them. I don't remember if they are at CMHQ or not.
11. Actually, it looks like Sgt. Shultz got transfered to a recon unit.
12. You can't change the 3-D models so you can't make double chins and stuff. It's the same reason why you can't make (decent looking) female soldiers.
13. Captain, you're just pissed off because you missed the cutoff for the first batch by 60. You'd better hope some people before you decide not to order CMBB (not likely) and that no one orders more than one copy. Edited because I can't do simple math. [ 10-17-2001: Message edited by: Pvt. 14. It should. I once played a QB with three 150mm guns against a mess of Allied armor. Those tanks were immobilized with near misses and brewed up with direct hits. The TDs were knocked out with near misses. At the range at which I opened up with my guns, most of the shots were direct hits.
15. I'm not groggy either, but I believe the first picture shows the late steel road wheels and the second picture shows the earlier style with rubber "tires." Oh, and that is a beautiful mod, basically the one I have been waiting for, but the colors do need to be muted a bit. Thanks for all your Tiger work. We sure need a CMMOS ruleset for all the Tiger mods. [ 10-17-2001: Message edited by: Pvt. Ryan ]
16. Dogface, BTS stated that the release of CMBB will be announced by e-mail to each member of the forum starting with the lowest member number and working up. They will have 6,500 copies printed in the first run with 10,000 more copies to be available about a month later. So just relax and wait along with the rest of us.
17. Don't the Germans celebrate Octoberfest in September? What's up with that. If you want an excuse to drink bier, why not have a Septemberfest?
18. I don't think there will be a camo feature, but I think I read somewhere on this forum that trenches and/or fortified emplacements will be included.
19. I finally understood a JasonC post! I usually play smaller battles - 1500 points or less, so buying vererans really uses up the points. I try to have a platoon of veterans to use as a reserve so I can get thm where they are needed quickly and so they can overrun an already weakened enemy.
20. I guess they won't let you link to the picture. [ 10-15-2001: Message edited by: Pvt. Ryan ]
