  1. So, what has Madmatt been doing for the past few days... licking stamps? He's probably over at the distribution center "motivating" the guys stuffing the envelopes. I don't doubt that all of the pre-orders will be mailed on 9/20, if not sooner.
  2. His mail carrier, after reading all these postcards, is going to notify the FBI. You might want to say hello to your maliman every few days to let him know you are still alive.
  3. Yes, a crew should be able to walk up to an abandoned weapon and ask, "Are you being served?"
  4. If you really want a nice package for your CM disc, take one of the AOL DVD-type cases and use it for CM. Or just use a regular jewel case. I think it was Tom that made the insert for the jewel case and it looked really nice. Maybe he will make one for CMBB. Then again maybe he won't since he is in Germany and will get a box and stuff this time. But maybe he will be nice and make one for the rest of us. But maybe he won't. Or maybe he will. But probably not. Well, maybe.
  5. I think his point was that they should be able to use TRPs in the game. My guess would be that this would be based upon having pre-ranged certain potential targets.</font>
  6. I think all of those are fine for CMBB, but if were to upgrade anything it would be the video card.
  7. On the way. I carefully selected one of the free postacrds I had lying in the bottom of my desk drawer since 1996.
  8. Do they show the same order number? If not, then you probably got charged for two copies. BFC thanks you for your support.
  9. From the "Changes Since CMBO" page on Battlefront.com: Some terrain has visual "doodads" for "height", e.g. grass, brush, rubble. These have no implications on the game engine but are for visual depth only (i.e. the terrain modifiers do not change by presence of doodads)
  10. Tom, put up a "donations" section on your new site with a Paypal option. I'd be happy to contribute.
  11. I played one game yesterday where a Soviet squad made it to my treeline and close enough to identify their weapons. Then they ran away like little children and hid in some brush. The squad changed to a unit marker. I dropped some mortar rounds where the squad last appeared while I had the unit marker selected. After a mortar round fell the number of weapons in the squad was reduced (one of the weapon types disappeared). So, based on this we do get info on casualties after the unit goes out of LOS as a result of the unit weapon info.
  12. I gave the Soviets a 200% bonus in Yelnia Stare. After pounding the German positions with 24 T-34s, I ordered my 9 companies (a "line" with each company in a "column" three platoons deep ) to launch a human wave attack. Let me tell you, when 9 companies begin a human wave attack the Urrahs! are deafening and impressive. The Germans surrendered on the next turn.
  13. Well, Wol, there is always the M3 Grant/Lee. But it won't be in the game either for the same reason.
  14. I think Steve said last week that the demo scenarios could be changed as long they only used the units and terrain tiles in the demo and the scenario parameters such as time of day and weather were not changed.
  15. Madmatt and Moon are rally the same person??? What else haven't you been telling us???
  16. Are the early war years enough to justify a whole game unto themselves, especially without horses? I just bought "War on the Eastern Front - The German Soldier in Russia 1941-1945" by James Lucas, and every photo from 1941-1942 has horsies in it! And that is the period after the early war years! There is also a diagram on how to build an igloo. [ September 14, 2002, 03:18 PM: Message edited by: Pvt. Ryan ]
  17. The best tactic to use when playing the Germans in Yelnia is to increase the Axis forces by 200%. Actually, a lot of the Germans' success has to do with luck. If you can get a few good shots at the T-34s with your paks you might be able to take a few out. You also need to keep your infantry well inside the tree lines or hidden on reverse slopes so that the tanks can't pound you from a distance. You also might be able to lure the tanks in close enough to do some damage with the tank hunters and other infantry. The MG34s are great for supressing the Soviet infantry, but you do not have enough ammo to let them blaze away on every turn. I find it is better to let them fire for two turns and then hide them for a turn. That way they won't be spotted as quickly and their ammo will last longer. The Soviets take a couple of turns to recover their morale so you don't need to fire at them on every turn. It is also best to only defend two of the three flags as you don't really have enough forces to protect all three. I also like to regroup the split squads at setup so as to help them maintain their morale and firepower when the Soviet infantry gets in close.
  18. The design was changed in 1946 to commemorate the death of Roosevelt. The observse of the "Mercury Dime" to which you refer depicted Liberty with a winged cap, which bore a close resemblance to Mercury, messenger of the Roman gods. The reverse of the Roosevelt Dime has a torch. [ September 14, 2002, 11:21 AM: Message edited by: Pvt. Ryan ]
