If you use "rough" to simulate the beach, you can't have any armor on the beach. I think it was Desert Fox, or maybe just Fox, who created a nice Omaha Beach map. It isn't based on a specific section of the beach, but more of a representation of a typical section of the beach. I think his map is quite nice and I have only modified it a little; however, I completely redid units as I felt he had too few on both sides. What I wound up with is a nice scenario to watch, but not necessarily to play. When playing the Germans all you do is hit GO and watch the Americans die. The German MGs and bunkers eventually run out of ammo and the surviving US troops can then march up the beach exit. I haven't tried playing it from the US side yet, but it looks like it would be a nightmare. All you would do is keep moving your troops towards the exit and hope enough survive to overwhelm the defenses. It is more fun to build an Omaha Beach scenario than it is to play it.

Did the building already have a * or ** rating? Maybe the backblast was the straw that broke the I-Beam's back.

I just got it to load, then it was gone again. Maybe they are doing some upgrades. This is what happened last time the Peng Thread imploded.

I didn't get any sound during the opening movie when I first got CM. Then I got a new computer and it worked fine. I'm not saying you need a new computer, but I did have the same problem you have. Maybe you need to update the drivers for your sound card.

Anyone else having trouble?

I find HE rounds from a Sherman 105, or SP Arty quite effective, but I've also seen infantry units take several HE rounds from a tank and suffer few if any casualties.

I am an insurance agent for the entertainment industry and one of our clients is A Band Apart Commercials. They have three divisions called Mr. Brown, Mr. White, and Mr. Pink. I never knew what those names were supposed to mean until I saw Reservoir Dogs on TV the other day. Then I remembered that Steve Buscemi and Quentin Tarantino (not Harvey Keitel) are directors at A Band Apart. Stuka's sig: Torture you? That...That's a good idea. Reservoir Dogs? I use view level one to experience a good arty barrage, but I mostly use 2 or 3 when focusing on a small area, or a higher view when I need a good overall view of the map.

CM just adds to the horror of Halloween. I have three bags of candy that I know will still be here at the end of the night and I have nothing better to do than sit here and munch on it while playing CM. I am going to be very sick and get very fat. Why do I always buy the candy I like?

I have a folder to which I download the mods, unzip them, and cut and paste the bmp and wav files to the cmbo bmp and wav folders. Then I have another folder in which to keep the zip files after I install the mods so they are still there in case I have to reinstall the game or something like that.

Do people achieve those high kill counts with fog of war on or off? I can kill a lot of things, but with FOW on, they don't register, except for unidentified vehicles. [This message has been edited by Pvt. Ryan (edited 10-31-2000).]

I have never tried a mod myself, but maybe it isn't that difficult to mod a sound file if all you want is to tone it down. I would also like to see the ambient wind sound toned down as well. I guess maybe I should try it. Yeah, right.

Madmatt, I made a scenario that started with clear weather and had aircraft in the force selection. Then I switched the weather to light fog and when I play the scenario the planes still fly. It seems that you can't purchase air units when the weather is less than clear, but that if purchased when clear, they remain in the force selection when the weather is changed. Perhaps this is a bug and the designer of the scenario did the same thing I did.

That is a great idea. I had a PBEM where all I was told was that it was a 1500 point QB even though I asked for details. I picked forces for a standard meeting engagement only to find I was assaulting a village with very hilly terrain. My VT artillery isn't much good against infantry hiding in buildings.

In a current PBEM one of my U.S. halftracks lost a crewman and is perma-buttoned. I can target stuff, but it refuses to fire. All that .50 cal ammo wasted.
