  1. I thought the same thing you did, but they are saying, "hilfe, hilfe!" which is German for "help, help!" I'm pretty sure anyway. At first I thought they were blaming Hitler for getting them killed. Boy was I a stupid newbie.
  2. I have read Band of Brothers and I am currently reading D-Day. What I love about Ambrose's books is that the men he discusses in detail are often interviewed in documentaries that appear on the History Channel and other channels. When I see them on TV I feel as if I already know these guys. I also like Ambrose's books because they are easy to read. They are interesting and straightforward. The last book I read was called World War I (can't remember the author - I think it was John Keegan), and although it was interesting, the style in which it was written made reading it like torture. I couldn't wait to finish it just so I could move on to something else. When I finished Band of Brothers I was disappointed that there was no more to read. I wanted to know what happened to these guys after the war in more detail than was given.
  3. Nosferatu, I use the "INCOMING!" wav file from CC1 as the e-mail alert on my browser. Then I turn the speaker volume waaaay up. When an e-mail comes in I hit the dirt. It's quite effective and really sets the mood.
  4. The Army for the first time will align National Guard divisions with active-duty Army corps, making it more likely that part-time soldiers will ship out if war erupts in Korea or the Persian Gulf, Army officials said Wednesday. http://news.excite.com/news/ap/000913/17/news-national-guard Or maybe that is TOE fans. 5. If they put a turret and gun on that Ram Kangaroo it would be just like a Sherman. I wonder if they ever thought of doing that. It would have much better fire power.
  6. I believe the official explanation is that the time it takes to register the guns and set up TRPs is beyond the scope of the battles in CM. I hope that CM2 allows for indirect fire by in-board artillery as long as a spotter is present, like the way it is currently done with on-board mortars. Do a search and you will find a lot more on this subject.
  7. I also noticed the dates on the files. I think that was done so they would be compatible with CM273. Nice work on the mods.
  8. It would also be nice if CM would indicate the date you added the scenario because I keep forgetting the name of scenario I had just installed.
  9. Ted, ICQ lets you transfer larger files than some e-mail services allow. Some of the turns files get pretty big. Also, M. Bates told me that many people use web based e-mail such as hotmail and that it is a pain to manage the turns. You also get to chat with each other in real time. Other than that I don't know of any benefits. When playing by ICQ each person sends files via ICQ and places them in their CMBO PBEM folder. Then you play the turns as you would if transfered by e-mail.
  10. Those who forget history are DOOMED to repeat it.
  11. Crap Game, Dell is sending a technician to my house tomorrow to replace the fan. I'll let you know how it goes.
  12. That photo looks like it was taken from the Battle of the Bulge. Hampstertruppen were known to have dressed up as US soldiers and used US equipment to try to confuse the American troops and gather intelligence.
  13. I think it's time for a new version of that old Civil War Chess set offer that used to be on TV. The Gerbils vs. Hamsters chess set would be a big seller, at least to CM lovers.
  14. All this came to an end when the 101st Airborne had the pleasure of "liberating" the habitrail known as the Hamsters Nest. The men of the Screaming Eagles spent their evenings relaxing in luxurious beds of cedar shavings while drinking wine from 17th century French porceline water nipples.
  15. My e-mail isn't working, so I haven't received anything since I sent you my turn last night. You can send me your turn via ICQ. My ICQ # is 12983068.
  16. I would like to see indirect fire by on-board artillery if a spotter is available - like it is currently done with mortars. I would also like to see bodies or some sort of marker to indicate where a soldier has fallen. Northing more gory than what we have now.
  17. Note to self: Von Brizee does not have Tigers. (If we should ever meet on the field of battle.)
  18. Joe, you seem very intelligent and articulate. Have you considered West Point, or do you hate officers like Clint "Kelly" Eastwood? As far as the US/UN, I have always felt that the UN derives much of its authority from the might of the US and that the US has the ultimate decision on how, when, and where it will exercise use of force.
  19. Lorak, how do you know Rob is Dyslexic? If he is, then he is due an apology. If not, then I think Vanir's response is hillarious.
  20. "It was like a good movie soundtrack." I guess he downloaded the sound mods. The reviewer is a 15 year old kid, which would explain why he thinks the western European theater had two fronts (maybe he is thinking American and British?) and why he thinks the graphics are not so good. I guess he hasn't downloaded the graphics mods. Edit: Or maybe he is referring to Italy as the second western front. [This message has been edited by Pvt. Ryan (edited 09-07-2000).]
  21. If the M10 was hidden behind the hill you could have just faced it to the left - no need to have the turret facing left while the hull was facing north. I am not sure why the M10 didn't fire, but maybe it was in fear of the MkIV but wouldn't move because it was "hiding" in ambush - a head in the sand kind of situation. ------------------ No me llamo Samuel, me llamo Pedro!
  22. Ditto, it depends on the camoflage. I think by the time CM2 comes out we will be amazed at how far graphics have advanced and what the game will be capable of. Or not. ------------------ No me llamo Samuel, me llamo Pedro!
  23. Hey, Phoenix: I want royalties on that picture. I have a copyright on my stupidity! N.B. I was going after that HT in the background. It was butchering my infantry and I didn't see any of his infantry. Lesson learned. ------------------ No me llamo Samuel, me llamo Pedro!
  24. Anyone notice that the CM Borg has developed quite a personality? ------------------ No me llamo Samuel, me llamo Pedro!
