Boy, is it just me or is the 1991-1995 era the toughest one to choose from? It was a good time to be a gamer! Seems like all the 1996-2000 titles had a Roman numeral after them... except Combat Mission of course!

With a few exceptions, I have at least one mini of all the the 3025 era mechs, and a few tanks/infantry too... I never played with any of that Clan crap, give me 3025 or give me death! I just stumbled onto it the other day ago, but there's a Battletech-like freeware game called Titans of Steel that looks promising. I downloaded it but haven't played it yet. I've never pulled back in the face of imminent defeat. I figure at this level game I'd surrender if I was badly beaten. I did have one memorable game where both my opponent and I were exhausted... what little we each had left were all dug in looking across no-mans-land at each other. I offered a cease-fire which seemed to be the realistic way to end the game. I've never used a ballot. I've lived and voted in Delaware and New Jersey and both have used machines. In these states, you go to a sign-up desk where they have all registered votes in a book. You tell them you who are and then sign off in the book next to your name. You're then given a slip or card that you then present before entering the booth. In Delaware (last voted 4 years ago) the machines were, um, mechanical. There's a switch beside each candidate and you throw the ones you're voting for. When you're finished selecting you throw a big switch and you're done. In New Jersey the machines were essentially the same only they were electronic... buttons instead of switches. I suppose each machine keeps a tally and those results are printed out at the end of the day... I really don't know. Here's an idea for a great war movie... the election of the US president is unbelievably close. One winner is declared, but half the country is pissed. Chaos ensues. Private Parts - Replaying an entire game in movie form is one of the highest items on the wish list. Just call me the Grinch who stole Halloween. Someone please explain to me why this poor excuse for a "holiday" is still in practice here in the US. I really don't know if this "holiday" is celebrated elsewhere, so to sum up it's the 31st of October. I don't know what the historical basis (if any) is for it, but on Halloween children dress up in costumes and go door to door, at night, and expect to be given candy. How this came about is a mystery to me. Now admitedly, I went out for Halloween when I was a kid and have fond memories. My parents always made up cool costumes for me (Darth Vader, a knight, a soldier, the usual boy stuff) and went with me wherever I went. I remember them checking out my candy first to make sure everything looked OK. BUT, this was maybe up until I was 7 or 8. Then I was "too old" to go out and that was that. In the meantime, there have been occasional horror stories of sickos giving out poisoned candy, abducting kids, safety problems with kids going around at night, etc. I would have thought this was a holiday on its' way out. I'm a recent (2 years now) homeowner and have come to dread Halloween. When I see a neighbor I know with his little ones dressed up real cute I enjoy it, but all to often it just pisses me off. Among my favorite things: 1. Roving packs of kids on rollerblades zipping through the community with no regard for others, presumably to cover more ground faster. 2. Kids who treat our small front porch like the front row of a rock concert, cramming little kids up against our front door so I have to tell them "Now back up so I can open the door" 3. Kids who trample our flowers and other nick nacks on our porch/flower garden to get to the door. 4. Often violent and disgusting costumes: Oh look, it's our cute neighbor Timmy with a big gash in his head weilding a bloody knife! 5. Freaking teenagers (seriously, 16, 17 or older)... go buy your own damn candy!!! 6. Well meaning but lazy-assed parents who follow their kids around IN THEIR CAR... tooling along at 5mph. 7. Kids from other neighborhoods, often dropped off by car by their parents. 8. Kids who don't say "thank you" or the traditional "trick or treat". 9. Fast moving kids (see #1 above) who wear something simple like a cloak, then take that off to reveal some other costume underneath and go round the neighborhood again... IT HAPPENS! OK, I've vented. At the risk of exposing myself as a total sci-fi junkie, may I recommend Daleks as armored vehicles with Cybermen infantry... mmmmmm. Partially agree with the comments about Lucas "selling out" with Episode 1. When I watch it on tape (which admittedly hasn't been too often) I skip through much of the movie. The real "phantom menace" stuff... the intrigue on Coruscant, Senator Palpatine, etc. is interesting viewing and should have been the focus of the movie instead of podracing, Jar Jar and "yipee!". Darth Maul is pure fluff but I can't help but watch the final duel. I do enjoy what parts I watch though, a lot like Return of the Jedi. The early T-34s had a 76mm gun, but late war (43-44?) T-34s had a larger turret to accomodate an 85mm gun. I suppose that flaking would deteriorate armor, but remember that one hit isn't likely to have the entire armor facing flaking off. Slightly OT, but when I saw this thread the first thing to come to my mind was: will any future improvements to the CM engine be applicable to our beloved CMBO?
