1. Nice and serious post Iron. This might be a good thread to tell a little story of mine. I grew up in Washington state, USA, an was adopted at a very early age (1-1/2). I did not know my heritage and neither did my super parents. I loved all of the WWII movies and watched them side by side with my dad when I was little. I always loved the German material the best for some reason. Maybe cause they appeared to have the coolest looking armor, weapons, uniforms, marching and the whole works. My favorite symbol was the swastika and used to pencil it on many futuristic looking cars that I loved to draw. Now don't get me wrong, I liked it because of how cool it looked. At the time I knew nothing of the Waffen SS, Nazi-ism or anything of the gas chambers. All I knew was that Germany wanted control of the world, and that in itself was bad, and put me on the Allies side for sure. I always wondered what drew me to like the German "stuff" over the allied. Well it just so happened that a talk-show like event happened to me 4 years ago when I turned 34. I got a letter in the mail from someone in Washington state (Currently live in Virginia) stating that certain persons were looking for me. I responded and low an behold it was my never known family!! It was my father, half sister and brother who wanted to find out who I was and what had become of me. A few days later and after many tears of joy, I got to see a picture of them and their families. Try and imagine not knowing what your blood family looks like, and the fact that you may never know. To make a long story short, I found out that I was of German descent and my real last name was Schneider. They all live in California now and was descended from a great grandfather who came here from Baden Baden, GE (hope that's right). I just thought it was a kinda interesting story to share. I did visit the SS website out of curiousity and even though I don't believe in anything evil that might have been done in WWII, it does have alot of really good pictures of armor an men in uniforms. Have a great day all... [This message has been edited by Grognerd_Fogman (edited 09-03-2000).]
2. Lol u guys. I still have one recurring problem that I do once in awhile and that is when I need to rotate an AFV immediately to point towards an oncoming enemy. I'll carefully plan the perfect angle for a couple minutes, then at the last second forget sanity and issue a movement (usually reverse) order to do the pointing instead. Of course I have forgotten about the delay (duh!) an the unit gets wiped the next turn. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
3. *** CM Baby Assistant Borg *** Uh, I don't see daddy collective anywhere so... You have been simulated, resistance is pretty much futile. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin! [This message has been edited by Grognerd_Fogman (edited 09-03-2000).]
4. An ur right Deanco, I hate waiting for ambushes too... ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!

7. Ummm, Hmmm, (an educated): Sep 5th, 1407Z. Now start posting people!... ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
8. Lol, you dorks, of course it would have won the war. That video was taken during the alpha testing phase, jus before they mounted the optical laser sight for the final beta. Could you imagine 16 claws an two beady eyes blistering towards you with pin-point precision? ...sheesh, its a given! ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
9.
quote:
Originally posted by Seanachai: Hmm, stupidest thing...well, when I was first playing the Demo, I can't tell you how much time I spent moving troops right into the cover of those individual 'trees'. Didn't occur to me that the shaded area around the 'trees' was all similar terrain, and that the trees were just graphic indicators and there for immersion's sake. Oh, and losing to Peng. They're still throwing filth on me in the Peng Challenge Thread(aka Cesspool).

Hehehe, did the same exact thing myself in the demo. Matter of fact, I almost didn't give the game a second chance due to I found it too tedious to move every single unit around 100's of objects. Can you believe I almost made the biggest mistake of my life!??... ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
10. *** Baby CM Borg Assistant *** Uh, you have been partially simulated. Uh, resistance is still pretty much futile. (Hope daddy CM's not watching) ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
11. Lol Henri, that was hilarious. But compared to me your probly a genius. It just goes to show that anyone can be had on any given day. Anyway, thx for the post an for making my day. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
12. Private Pike, In regards to the purchase above. If you notice your company has support units automatically attached like the piats an mortars. They end up being charged to your support column. You'll see that if you add up all three sets of these they add up to 75pts. Now add that to the 17 pdr AT gun and you'll see that 105pts + 75pts = 180pts total for support. That is correct. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin! [This message has been edited by Grognerd_Fogman (edited 08-31-2000).]
13. The tactical AI handles all of the automatic smoke ejection for AFV's. As for smoke ammo that you can fire specifically you just have to try various movement/fire schemes to find out what's right or will work for your style of play. Like if: "Hmmm, I think a Tiger/Panther might be on the other side of that ridge so I'll order my Stuart to fire a smoke round on top, set a move order (with 15 sec pause) to just break through the smoke area, take a peek an if he sees something maybe he'll fire AP/HE as appropriate instead of continuing to shoot smoke an then reverse back out before he gets whacked" type of situation. This game is just so complex and dynamic that it's hard to come up with steadfast rules for every situation. Some things work like a charm in one situation and totally different in another. Even with the same type of units, daylight, experience etc... Hope this helps some mate. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin! [This message has been edited by Grognerd_Fogman (edited 08-31-2000).]
14. Lol, can I hire that last one for a secret x-wife(s) of mine... ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
15. I think what would be cool for CM2 would be for air attacks to have an ingress/egress choice ala Steel Panthers before the turn. Kinda like we were radio'ing in area coordinates for known or suspected targets. Also if you could get a percentage chance estimate given that would tell you if aircraft will even show up for that particular type battle (i.e. day/night, fog etc) so you could make an semi-intelligent purchase choice. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
16. From RMC's post I think I got it now: NeverHideAGungsWaffle? (Gung = Big Lizard) Now I can fully see why these baby's are so powerful in the game. I wouldn't wanna hide one their waffles either...Especially in the morning. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
17. And just think, I purposely injured my left knee 2 months ago so I could be outta work an sitting here waiting for the 100,000nth post. I lost an am deleting CM off the hard-dri....Wait....WHAT??..am I crazy??..there's always time for 200,000!!!...woohoo, CM2 here I come!... ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
18. lol...an i had two browser windows open...ima la-hoo-za-her!! ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
19. *** CM Borg Baby Assistant *** Please, Please Daddy? Gimme CM2???...lol ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
20. *** CM Borg Baby Assistant *** uh, do we simulate here or what daddy Borg? ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
21. *** CM Borg's Baby Assistant *** You have been simulated even a little bit more...Resistance is pretty much futile... ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
22. I would probly choose the Tiger as my all-time favorite Allied tank but it really wasn't available to the US until the end of 1945 ... ...However, I will absolutely take anything that can take out a Panther!!!...Even a rogue hamster will do! ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
23. That's why from now on I'm gonna demand at least 40 turns for a PBEM on a med map and at least 50 turns for a large map. This is so you don't always have to feel rushed, especially for an attacker battle, to be able to take your time and avoid what some people call "gamey" tactics. ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
24. The best way I found is to have the unit bases "on" and most importantly use "shift-P" to show all movement and/or targeting paths "on". ------------------ Thanks for Athskin!
