1. The AI is probably creating the most balanced force it can. It is not wasting it's money on the overly expensive Tigers in order to buy more armor at cheaper prices, or more infantry. We can learn from this if we pay attention. We humans tend to fall in love with certain armor types without considering a more efficient and less expensive way to allocate resources. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
2. You might be interested, the old SL scenario,"Bitche Salient" is from that campaign and you can download it from Col. Klotz's web sight. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
3. Very nice. Looks like something they threw together at the last moment which was common in front line units. One piece of criticism( I knew he would). Put some of the background greens or browns in the darker portions of the tank, around the treads or roadwheels to make the tank look like it belongs in the picture. You need color in the tank "picture". Maybe you could put some "mud" on that nice white surface to make it blend in. This is an old artistic trick in painting. It'll make your tank look more natural. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
4. Saw it tonight and thought it was very interesting. Apparently Stalin tried several times to make peace in 1941 but the Germans would'nt allow him to. 3 years later they were kicking themselves for this. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
5. Thanks for the info. Looks like something I'll stay away from. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
6. I've read this term many times on this forum and I was curious as to what exactly it is and how it works. I have a TNT2 Riva and in the VGA conrols it alows me to grab extra RAM for the display. Is this the same thing? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
7.
quote:
Originally posted by kb9sog: Wow, Wayne! Thanks a bunch! That was quick. I'll get to editing. I'd like to get an idea on what the gun was that the German troops had in the bunker and the model of tank that the French commandos had to help turn the tide and take the hotel. If anyone else has any ideas please don't hold back. Thanks.

No problem. Glad to help although I didn't know much. Check out Cornelius' Ryan's book "The Longest Day". It's out in paperback and you can probably get it fast from amazon.com. I love the movie based on his book except that the Omaha Beach scene looks lame compared to "Saving Private Ryan". ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
8. We always knew you were the real brains behind CM, we just couldn't prove it. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
9. It's spelled Ouistreham and the elite commandos were French. Beyond that I haven't found anything in my sources. They may have been attached to either 4 or 6 Commandos. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
10.
quote:
Originally posted by Red Devils: I don't have a TV guide handy. Is each night an hour long?

1 hour and the time is 6PM and 10PM PST according to my Dish Network TV guide. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
11. It will air from Aug.14-17 on the History Channel, 9PM ET/PT. 23 million killed, think of it. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
12. Get over it! ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
13. When I suggested that you keep your Tigers moving I should have been more specific. There are two directions to move a tank, forward and backward. Give the tank a hunt order and then back the tank up. Keep the other guys guessing as to where you're going. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
14.
quote:
Originally posted by Bil Hardenberger: Oh? I would like you to try a little scenario I designed (on the CD - play as the Germans) called Fire & Maneuver, you will see how good AT guns can be. Bil

Played it and became totally frustrated at having my panzers cooked off. It was a humbling experience. Good demonstration of what a well planned AT defence can do. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
15.
quote:
Originally posted by Neutral Party: I take the point but consider this. If you've got a green FO, time to FFE can be several minutes - 6 minutes is the most I've seen. What I do in my nasty gamey little way is set a target for a fire mission early in the game. Then when the arty is due to strike, adjust the target point. New time to FFE is 1 minute - repeat as required. That way you stay 1 minute away from FFE rather than 6 or whatever. Do you think I should not do this ? Now 14" is a different story because of the damage a spotting round can do. However, I can't think of how such a tactic could be hardcoded out as you would then lose the ability to adjust fire. Eeh it's a dilemma Gromit! Joe

I would'nt consider this gamey. In fact I believe this is the way you use artillery in the most efficient way. I have used artillery to suppress infantry that was about to attack me, this is what it is for. However, I only allow 3 or 4 rounds to fall and then either cancel the mission or move the target position. Using one spotting round at a time with heavy artillery is out of line, but can you time it and control it that carefully? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
16. I,m reading a general history of the Overlord campaign called "Decision in Normandy" by Carlo D'Este which seems pretty good. "Battle "by John Toland is a good one on the Bastogne action. "Battle at Best" by S.L.A. Marshall, in fact anything by SLAM Marshall. "The Men of Company K" by Leinbaugh and Campbell is good one for the infantryman's viewpoint. "A Time For Trumpets" by Charles MacDonald, "August 1944' by Miller, "Panzer Commander" by Hans von Luck,"Panzer Battles" by von Mellenthin, "The Battle of the Generals" by Blumenson, "Saving the Breakout" by Featherston, Omar Bradley's "A Soldier's Story" for a general history of the War in Europe, "Steel Inferno" by Micheal Reynolds for the Panzer's history of the Normandy campaign. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
17. I found the Gold demo of CM while serching the net for a computor "version" of ASL and fell in love with it. I would recommend CM to anybody that loved wargames but especially to ASLers. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
18. I just realized we must be talking about two different games. I was playing the battle scenario, not the operations. Stupid me! Never mind. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
19. Are there Waves in this game? I have'nt seen them yet. Are they in skirts or fatigues? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
20. Try this and see if it works for you. Keep using the target command for your tank to target the enemy tanks, even through the smoke. Your tank should still be able to target the other tanks. This worked fine for me in the Villers-Bocage scenario. My Tigers kept wanting to shoot at unimportant targets while there were dangerous Shermans lurking about. I simply retargeted at the enemy tanks no matter what my "stupid" tank commander wanted to do. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
21. Have you talked to your counselors at school about government loans, grants etc. As long as your parents don't have a lot of money and property, you should be elligible for some kind of assistance. You may think it is charity but the money is allocated for this purpose and you're as good as anybody else so find out if something along that line is available before commiting yourself to military service. If you go in to the military you're in there for a given time and there's no backing out. If you want to be in the military then, go ahead, but think real hard about what you are going to do. Good luck in whatever your heart tells you to do. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
22. Is this weapon an anti-aircraft gun or is used like a regular machine gun? ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
23. I like the Tiger and downloaded it. The Panther I did'nt like. The black needs to be more grey. The details on both tanks looked great. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
24. If you think the AI is good in the demo, wait until you get the full game. Sometime it can make stupid moves, like us humans, but other times it's very smart. I believe the AI plays best as the defender. ------------------ Blessed be the Lord my strength who teaches my hands to war and my fingers to fight.
