1. Keen eye for detail and a photographic memory from looking at my two Peter Chamberlain Tank books I guess. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot.
2. How interetsing, this is the G-LATE model. How can I tell, do you ask? The late-style road wheels. In fact, what Tiger called the G-late had early style road wheels. If you've got the Encyclopedia of German Tanks of World War Two check out page 125 and Plate 402 and then read the caption for it on page 124. Nevermind. I double checked the BTS originals from the CD. And BTS got them backwards. Carry on Tiger. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-21-2001).]
3. I always thought that open-topped vehicle and artillery crews carried umbrellas into combat for not only protection from the elements, but from shrapnel and the sun rays when they got a chance for some Margauritas.
4. A 17 pounder like those found on the Fireflies are 76mm.
5. No, no. Just do a "Save as" and change the file type to JPEG.
6. Actually that uniform would work good for the Gettysburg Scenario. Care to do a Confederate uniform for the Germans?
7. That vehicle is a Mine Exploder T10. Early in 1944, the National Defense Research Council suggested a remote controlled mine exploder device consisting of three roller units, articulated in tricycle layout and controlled by a following tank. This was developed into a self-propelled unit, consisting of the roller units as first envisioned, but powered and driven from a modified M4 hull/turret mounted above the articulated tricycle unit. Designated T10, it was tested at APG, but proved to be unwieldy and the project was cancelled in the fall of 1944. Source: British and American Tanks of World War Two, Chamberlain & Ellis. 9. Tracked turret looks better. I think mainly because the BTS *original* had tracks on the turret.
10.
quote:
Originally posted by JAK: Does anyone know how to fix it so that fog is displayed? I have a Direct 3D card and it also has trouble showing smoke all the time.

What kind of card do you have? Voodoo 2 cards can't display fog or transparent buildings and smoke. If you have something of the above mentioned specs, you may have the "fog table emulation" option turned off. Go into your display settings and locate a check mark box for fog emulation.

12. I suggest trying any battle with the size of 'small' or 'tiny'. This refers to how many units are involved, not the map size. So small unit battles would be a good starting point. I still play mostly small battles as such, when I just wanna sit down and play a quick battle if I only have a few hours to play. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-20-2001).]
13.
quote:
Originally posted by rlh1138: Now I've only been to Europe twice in 20 years, but I did live there for 2 1/2 years and then at least, many of the smaller towns had more that one church - Not the teeny 20 house places like some of the CM towns, but mid size villages, yes. (This was in Germany) Second trip last year was to Spain, churches all over the place!!

Speaking of village sizes in CM, I have done a map of my neighborhood area. Now in real life this area isn't that big at all. In fact you can drive through it in about a minute. But in CM terms, the map is a HUGE map which is roughly 1680mx1280m. This goes to show you on how small the typical CM engagement really is. I'm not quite done with the map because I'm basing it on 10 year old terrain data and it has changed since then with a 4-lane highway replacing the railroad tracks that are in it therefore I can't quite recall the tree layouts of the land back then in certain areas that were affected by the new highway. But as for the number of churches, yes, there are in fact two churches sharing the same block of land actually. My Catholic Church and some generic Protestant church. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot.
14. Yeah, a Desert Rats Total Conversion is in the works. Go check out the ASL 4 CM site or the COMBAT MISSIONS site.
15. So as the village idiot was sworn in today in the United States, Dubya said, "Wha, they're gonna cuss me in today?"
16. Someone released a "stop-gap" mod for the 250/8 shortly after Fernando did his. If you do a search on 250/8 you might be able to find the download link.
17. No but it did run off the bridge prematurely. I guess that's what you get for trying to drive a Tiger backwards across a bridge. I wished I had a saved game file.
18.
quote:
Originally posted by Tiger: It's hi-resolution...

So why the blurry details on the hull side? See those buildings in the background? Those are hi-res. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-19-2001).]
19. Low-res, can't ya tell? Tiger, Panther G (late) is *supposed* to have spare track links on its turret. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-19-2001).]
20. Well, I just played the Ramelle-SPR scenario once again in a long time. I played the Amis. I got my butt kicked pretty royally, but I did manage a Minor Tactical Victory due to the kill ratio I believe. My aircover did a number of some infantry I believe. But anyway, here's the source of the topic of the thread. I'm down to just Cpl. Jackson (the sharpshooter) and Cpt. Miller, plus one or two men left in two squads somewhere in town. I run both Miller and Jackson back to the "Alamo" and one remaining Tiger is still roaming around. I immobilized the other with a "sticky bomb" (rifle grenade). It was the last turn of the game, Turn 15 and the last Tiger was near the bridge, just like the film and it started across...but ass first! Maybe it was trying to keep its frontal armor toward town from where the planes would keep coming from, but who knows. I watched it and I laughed, "Hey it's the famous ass-attack!" ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot. That always worked for me. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-19-2001).]
22. To clarify a little bit... Since the Tac-AI doesn't know how to use Assault Boats, the only way a single player can play a scenario with assault boats is to play the side *with* the assault boats. If you select the other side, the only choices are to play it in Multi-player.
23.
quote:
Originally posted by Pierce: OK, I've got the demo. I'm pretty close to buying it. Only one thing holds me back. I totallly suck at this game! I have yet to win Close Encounter once. Yesterday, my victory % was up to 83 percent by turn 7, by Turn 14 it was 49%. Can someone give me some tips?

I've been playing CM now for a YEAR (since the Beta Demo) and I still get beat by the AI. It's because the AI is just that good and that war in itself is a very fluid situation which not only depends on the quality of troops, quality of tactics, but also, on a LOT of luck. You can have the very best laid out plan and it can even come together, but a few unlucky events can ruin your day (battle) at anytime. So hang in there and have patience with it. There's always that ALT-A combo (Abort Mission) ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot.

25. Looks great Gordon. Now get on those Shermans!
