  1. That's the way to tell'em! Feed'em a bunch of Quantom Physics or something. LOL! Seriously Gunny Bunny, your average FPS game doesn't push a fraction of polygons that CM does. What makes FPS look so good is that they only display a very small area which then blends into FOG as you look further down range. They also tend to use a different texturing structure like FastFiles that aren't very large in size. One hi-res hull top in CM is probably the same size as one of these FastFiles. Again the issue here is that since CM is 3D, every FPS fan looks at it and expects awesome graphics. Hell I did back in the Fall of '99 when I first got wind of CM in its Alpha days. I first found CM when Hidden & Dangerous came out and just like you, I wasn't impressed at all. But if you had and bought H&D's expansion pack, you would have realized that the Frame Rate dropped BIG ASS TIME because it tried to display large outdoor expanses. Well this is what CM does. It displays LARGE OUTDOOR expanses. Most FPS only display one or two small rooms or corridors. Also, if you had H&D, you may recall the C3M6 mission where the framerate would drop to something aweful like 2FPS due to the large amount of soldiers, et al. on the screen at one time. Same principle applies here. CM can do this without slow Frame Rates, but a FPS engine can't. ------------------ "Upon my signal, unleash Hell."--General Maximus, Gladiator "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-27-2001).]
  2. Shrinking the image does the same thing *without* losing detail. Try resizing the picture down by like 40-50% or so.
  3. This will work good for the Desert Rats Mod. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-27-2001).]
  4. I think you local hardware store that sells wallpaper might have some. But then of course, you might get some funny looks in the process. [This message has been edited by Maximus (edited 01-27-2001).]
  5. I know. What you are seeing is a catastophic explosion *without* the fiery graphics. Question. Why don't you use High Quality Smoke?
  6. For those interested, SSG's Complete Carriers at War can be found here.
  7. You're right, I was thinking of "Luft". ie, "Luftwaffe" My bad.
  8. Well said, David. What in effect iggi is asking is for the game to actually *see* what it's looking at. It can't. LOS is calculated soley on numbers, not visual cues.
  9. The game doesn't do this sort of relative spotting for the same reason it doesn't take into account the style of camoflauge. Can you imagine the sort of calculations it would take if the camo pattern of the vehicle was taken into account into spotting the unit. So if you stick "The Pink Panther"TM on the back side of a single "woods" tile, it still has the same concealment factor as one painted up to match the trees.
  10. Yes those catastrophic explosions do emitt a shockwave, but it is very quick. If you are seeing it slowly, then that's a matter of your using a slow computer and/or video card. Being that you said that you don't use high-quality smoke much, then I assume your computer/video card can barely handle CM.
  11. Those aren't mods. They come with the patches. The were first released with the v1.01 patch that came out as the game shipped. Then in one of the Beta Patches recently, they were updated to a enhanced version made by Madmatt and Tiger. If you can't see them with every explosion, even little hand grenade explosions, you either don't have high-quality smoke enabled, Shift-I, or your video cared doesn't support transparencies which is required for high-quality smoke and transparent buildings.
  12. Hehe, yeah, those are Jumbos up on the hill. That was an all-armor QB I did with like 8 Jumbos vs 4 Panthers and 4 KTs, just to test the survivability of the Jumbo's front armor. I played it with v1.1b24. It came down to several Jumbos against one KT, and you know I couldn't hardly get a flanking shot on the last KT because it kept rotating its hull to face my two pronged attack. IIRC, the KT was Elite, he could get that thing turned and destroying my tanks before I could get that flank shot in. But seeing a Panther brew up like that, hell I saw that in my very first game with the full version back in early July when a flamethrower unit hiding in a building ambushed my unsuspecting Panther.
  13. You mean like this? And this? This feature has been in ever since the game came out, or at least with v1.01. But to get this effect, you have to have high quality smoke enabled. Without it you will just get the normal brew up effect.
  14. That's what we're talking about--that extra explosion. You mean like this? And this?
  15. I is called a Nahverteidigungswaffe. It was a "air-detonated", hence the 'waffe' part, anti-personel grenade that is launched from certain German AFVs to protect against close-assaulting troops.
  16. OH MY, what type of computer or video card are you using? Or is that just JPEG compression doing that? That almost looks like Software Mode.
  17. Looks like one of those bridges in that town that was hit by that flash flood years ago.
  18. I think so, but don't hold me to that. Because as Marco sent us the first preview set, we found some missing textures as you went from UK to US. Some were from Marco's original M4A3 set that he didn't make '_us' versions for originally and one texture that we had to pull from Tiger's original mod. This was the problem we had to work out that I spoke of earlier. We also had a problem with the batch files but that was cleared up too with a little editing on Marco's part. But right now, Marco only has plain turret sides and stuff. He's going to add stuff like saddlebags and maybe even some extra track links. In fact, I'll run that last thing by him shortly. Marco will then follow up this set with the Chaffee, Cromwell, and Pershing. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot.
  19. Well how 'bout Little Miss Petunia or something like that? I picked the name back in May 2000 when the movie first showed. I took it *because* I thought it was cool. Also he had a lot of the same personality traits that I have. Just as my prior handle did, "Ol' Blood & Guts" after my all time favorite general, George S. Patton. PS. So what the hell does 'von shrad' mean? ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot. 20. Yes Tiger's new weathered Shermans are ENTIRELY different from Marco's mods. So you'll have to choose which style you want. However, Marco's Commonwealth Shermans were based on the BTS originals.
  21. You guys seen the new screenshots for this new version of War in the Pacific? Check this out. Hex-based man! Actually looks like this game will finally do justice to an Pacific Operational Game. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot. 22. He's finalizing the base textures now and then he's gonna do the saddlebags, nationality markings, etc. So maybe by next weekend. ------------------ "Live by the sword, live a good LOOONG life!"--Minsc, BGII "Boo points, I punch."--Minsc, BGII "Buttkicking for goodness!"--Minsc, BGII "Aim small, miss small."--Mel Gibson, The Patriot.
