  1. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>5th June 2000, by Bruce Geryk Historical gamers will certainly be happy with the PBEM capabilities included in Big Time Software's new Combat Mission. Both Tim and I have been playing the full version from the gold masters we got, and I am awfully impressed with what the game has achieved. The only omission at this point appears to be the lack of TCP/IP support, but Charles Moylan promises that it will be added in the v1.1 patch. Tim's review might be up before next week's Front Lines, but if it isn't, he should have more detailed comments there. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
  2. Does your unit have less of a chance to be spotted if approaching the enemy from it's rear facing?
  3. No the screenshots are wrong. There is a screenshot from dark reign 1 & 2. They said they are provided by CMHQ. Obviousely an error.
  4. Tank hunting with mortars is fun. However I can't penetrate the top armor of the stuggs in last defense. I don't think my opponents knew that cause the shelling caused them to displace Popping halftracks in Last Defense is real easy. Know your weapons!
  5. Well I set out a challenge at the OKW(German High Command)forum of WWiionline. http://www.okw.wwiionline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000081.html Should sharpen the minds of some FPS players in wwiionline.
  6. I'll look at the editor too. Setup maps, situations of all sorts to test what ifs, tactics and so on. LOS will be tested under varyiing conditions. Basically I will make sure I understand exactly when and why things happen.
  7. I agree with Scott that CM simulates you taking over the roles of many leaders, not just one. Looking at CC as realistic because you can only give orders to one group at a time ignores the fact that at the same time that you busy telling one squad it's orders, the other squads are assumed to be doing nothing. In otherwords they have no initiative of thier own. CM overcomes this by allowing you to fill the shoes of commanders that have no orders since they would have thought on thier own anyways. If you want to get into the shoes of one commander, wwiionline might fit the bill. However, even there, communications will not be realistic. You will be able to talk to people out of hearing range. In conclusion, if you want to roleplay many positions, only CM allows you to do this. CC assumes that squads without orders have no initiative.

  9. Only those with the gold visa get an extra scenario Sorry, can't get it out of my mind
  10. Steve and Charles should have guessed that Berlichtingen was agressive just from his credit card

  12. Yep, those boxes around the soldier made me think..'soldiers at war'. I can't believe Hasbro is going to try this on us. Using the Squad leader name to pass us the latest patch for SAW. Maybe it's not true, but I doubt it.
  13. Well, all this talk about CC got me downloading the demo for the bridge too far again. Uninstalled it again! Cool game for its time. I'm just too used to working with the 3D battlefield now. I'm hearing of flamethrowers in Shermans. While it will be cool, they won't help a bit if that sherman has no LOS. Point is, CM is making me into a little grass in the snake. Once you thrive in the 3D cat and mouse game, you don't want to give it up. I just didn't feel I could slither as well in CC as I can in CM. Not putting it down though
  14. Kraut, those "click happy dip****s" are war gamers too. Maybe not to your standards but if we attack everyone that likes other games than CM, we'll be left with choices like deer hunter. If CC gets them into gaming, the better for it.
  15. What's 2 weeks? Gee thats nothing. See if you can lose 5 pounds by then. this way time will pass quicker Besides running two PBEM games at the same time, (I've got really fast reflexes ), I bought allegiance for some team internet play.
  16. Mean looking panthers. Good work.
  17. Well if I have the turns left over, I have a couple of squads in one of my PBEM games that will not get an opportunity to surrender. But tom, I think your way is more creative . At least you make them earn thier execution.
  18. You can also eliminate surrendered units with area fire. Less hassle.
  19. There's an article on using TACOPS for training by the Canadian Army here: http://www.battlefront.com/resources/tacops/HQ/files/TacOpsCF.pdf Here is a brief quote from that informative article: <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Allow the simulation to run for approximately three one-minute turns between periods when the commanders are permitted to issue orders. This can be modified according to the pace of the battle and to allow indirect fire requests and adjustment to be processed during that period. The intent of this measure is to force the commander to plan ahead and live with the decisions rather than being ieon the radiolo every minute.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The experts think we have more than enough control. That's good enough for me.
  20. Wow, got home and loaded my PBEM movie. It was amazing. I was in the middle of a major attack. I can't give details, but ,I've never before in any other wargame, been so absorbed in how it all unfolded. You can really get good at this game if you play smart. It is so much fun to replay a movie from so many angles. This movie really made my day.
  21. 36 years old. 2 summer stint in reserves at 17. Trying to read up on programming but CM is taking up alot of my time [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 09-27-2000).]
  22. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Because as the side selection is in the Demo, you can only pick between Allies or Axis.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Yes, and somwhere in the game there is a definition of who is axis and who is allies. Maybe a patch can allow the player to define who is axis and who is allies?
