  1. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>why do you need the exact distance for a movement order<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Who said I need to know the exact distance for a movement order?? I want to be able to have the function of the L key while I'm doing something else so I don't have to leave what I am doing to go press L. Suppose I select a unit in order to move it and I then think...hmm I wonder how far that mg nest is? I would have to press the L key and then press F again to plot waypoints. Actually, once you are in the orders phase, the LOS function should be always running when you select a unit for what ever reason. this way you never have to press L.
  2. The tank passed the house in about 4 seconds. I'm not talking about something that takes place over a number of turns.
  3. 1)Is any other 3D game working on your system?
  4. Nigel over at WWii online made a neat video: Take a peek: http://www.geocities.com/nig_tufnel/pop.htm Lots of Gulf war pics.
  5. Hi PanzerLeader, No I am not a veteran. I found out about WWii online about a month ago. I'm really excited about it and picked up a rifle and joined a squad This game will be a simulation not the usual fps. How Playnet will deal with the player limit has not yet been revealed. I am as eager to know more as you are. Private Ryan, is it true you have a real Whermacht veteran on your squad?
  6. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>I honestly have no idea why you need to know the exact meters between waypoints<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well I don't want to know the exact distance between waypoints. I was asking that the LOS function show the distance that the curser is from the selected unit *while* you are plotting waypoints. The distanct will always be a reference between the original unit's position and the curser. This has nothing to do with waypoints. Waypoints have cropped up because in movement mode, you can plot waypoints. So people think I am associating the two. Look what happens when you use the L key. You get range and the terrain the unit is in as you move your curser around. Now, select a unit and press the F key. What do you see around your curser? You see the terrain that the curser is over. I am asking that you see the same thing that you see when you hit the L key, this way you don't have to hit the L key to check a distance/LOS while you are plotting waypoints. It would save you the hassle of switching back and forth between the L key. All you have to hit is a movement key(m/f/u). This has nothing to do with distance between waypoints. Sure it's not a priority. I just want to know if you think that's more efficient.
  7. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>what if they were to stop right behind the building?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> The tank was moving not stopped so you know that LOS will be regained. If it was me, I would keep the tube pointed at a known threat. That doesn't mean I would not verify all 360 degrees with my eyes.
  8. What was going on in that pic? Were the american soldiers so upset with that goatee wearing whermacht infantry? PS Does that hedge affect movement?
  9. Hopefully I can get CM movies,(once the patch for that comes out), at the Division's site. The movies can be a great source to make sure everyone understands how our missions are to be played out. With the CM editor, we can even set up movies showing specific duels between vehicles to have our troops aware of vehicle capabilities. This is going to be one hot summer [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-24-2000).]
  10. PS I've already highly recommended CM to our division to perfect tactics. I want our troops to know the enemy inside out. [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-24-2000).]
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>It doesn't litteraly mean that each member is lying on the ground.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>That must be true. The abstraction makes it look like the explosions don't bother them.
  12. When the open beta starts in the 3rd quarter at WWii online, we want the best Combat Mission players to join us online to fight the allied powers. Invasion is near. Be prepared. http://www.thmodus.com/dasreich/index2.html ------------------ "Don't tickle with the fingers, hit with the fist" -Heinz Guderian
  13. Tom, there is no new info gained. You can now select a tank, then decide to check range before you plot so you press L and then press F and then plot. All I'm saying why go through that hassle? Why don't we have a sepeate key to check terrain? We don't cause it's already included when you are plotting movement. Try it yourself. Select a tank, press F and move the curser around the map. When you move your curser over different terrain, the terrain type is indicated on the menu. Why don't we have to press a separate key to get the terrain type? I'm not asking for a more revealing LOS function. I want the exact same one. You can tell me that it's too late to change code but don't tell me it's not logical.
  14. I was playing the Germans. I had placed a tiger tank 200-250 meters from a US squad in a house in LD. The house on the opposite side of the wall. The side where the halftracks appear. Try it yourself and place infantry behind your tiger. I'm not saying that I wanted to control where the US infantry were firing. However, it seems that the US infantry want my infantry so bad that they are not affected by multiple HE explosions from my tiger tank. They don't even duck until they receive 5+ rounds. This was not a large appartment complex. They must be really brave , I guess.
  15. I don't mean knowing the range from waypoint to way point. I mean that pressing say F for fast movement will show you the range before you actually plot the waypoint. When the first waypoint is plotted, the range given is still from your starting point. No new info gained. So all you are doing is using the LOS function without having to alternate between the F/M/U keys and the L key. No new info gained, just done faster.
  16. Well I guess I hope so too. The demo will tell. Unfortunately it will then be too late for any of our opinions then.
  17. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>You, as the commander of your men, ordered them to stay in this house. They cannot do anything against the Tiger being there (at least from a distance and without AT weapons), so they are trying to do some damage to the infantry<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> That may sound logical for a wargame but I highly doubt that in such a real life situation a commander wound tell his troops to not worry about the TIGER TANK 200 meters in front of them that is adjusting his fire to kill you while your laddies play on the shooting range and take popshots at the next available infantry squad. If the tank seems like he didn't see you maybe but his barrel is pointing straight at you and you want to attract even more attention?? Bist Du kaput, mein Kapitän ? If there's a tank that close, you have lost that piece of dirt that you are on and if a HE round goes off next to you I just can't see how an infantry squad behind my tank can be of interest to you. Has any veteran seen this happen in real combat?? I have some military experience but no combat myself. I have easily repeated this scenario over and over and can easily provide a movie to anyone interested I'm sure. [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-24-2000).]
  18. It must have been an ETA indicator cause the L key already gives that info. Question is , why have me make two steps instead of one?Make it simple, have the LOS function 'on' all the time, (in the orders phase). [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-24-2000).]
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>or you will run out of HE fast <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Actually, my experience is that I have loads of HE left over. That's why I like unloading my HE rounds into buildings. I can't waste them fast enough Strangely, I found that my tiger likes to fight more at the beginning of a fight. In LD, the tiger takes more direct orders to shoot as the game continues, it seems to fire less on it's own with time. Thanks for the tip though. I avoid my tank's desire to switch targets by trying to present him with one target at a time(ie keeping his field of view resricted to what I want him to pounce on). [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-23-2000).]
  20. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>a separate process<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> That wouldn't prevent it from being activated when you press a move order key. Two processes can run simultaneously. Actually, that happens anyways cause you get the terrain that the curser is in always updated. Correct me if I'm wrong. This way you get the LOS function as you are planning your movement and not as a another step. [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-23-2000).]
  21. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>If all of your soldiers would go down when somebody is firing at them,<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well if they aren't visually represented as ducking,(immediately), when they receive incoming HE rounds, is this represented in underlining statistics that the player can't see?
  22. Hey ARCHANGEL, did you ever go by the name Capt Comel? Did you ever run a Max2 Heaven site?
  23. I had a tiger move accross the field of view of US infantry in LD. As the tiger moved, it drew a red line towards US infantry squads. One by one, the red line would shift from enemy squad to another as the tiger moved. However, at one point there was a house in between the house and the enemy. The point was brief but the tiger had momentarialy lost sight of the enemy. The tiger's turret began to rotate to it's front and then as the moving tiger passed the obstacle and resighted the enemy, the turret swung back to the sighted US squad. Point is, why did the turret swing to it's front. I know the tiger lost sight momentarily *but* it did so while in movement. I mean that tank commander had the enemy squad sighted and he traversed his turret to his front because he was passing in front of a house? He should realise that it was his movement that caused the lost LOS and not the fact that the US squad dissapeared on it's own. He should have kept his turret at the last known enemy sighting. That's what a human would have done. A human's fear would have not taken his eyes of that last sighting so easily. The tiger lost sight cause he was moving and a house passed in front of him and his target not because the US squad moved. [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-23-2000).]
  24. I see that you can have range displayed in the orders phase by using the 'l' key. Couldn't you have range displayed in that phase when you are giving a move order? You already get what terrain the curser is at with a move order so why not include range? Why make the player take the extra step of using the 'l' key?
  25. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>an HE round is certainly not an automatic kill<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Sure, not an automatic kill but at least go down and stop firing for a bit. The US squad in LD was firing at my infantry *while* it,(the US squad), was taking tank fire. Sometimes it would hunkerdown and finally it would retreat. I would think the squad(visually)would go down always, right away.(unless of course there are things going on that are not visual being displayed). I tried it again, I placed a tiger roughly 200 meters from a US squad in LD. I placed some of my infantry around the tiger to attract the US infantry into showing themselves. The US infantry pay too much attention to my infantry while the tiger pounds away at them. Selecting the US infantry shows yellow lines leading to my tiger with a red line leading to my infantry squad. That must mean they are paying more attention to my infantry while my tiger is about to kill them.My infantry was behind my tiger. Again the US infantry squad did not always go down when tiger rounds landed around them. Is this effect still in the game or just a beta effect? In your example moon, you knew that your instructor was called crazy. You knew it was a show if not a surprising one. When that HE round lands next to the US squad, they should understand that they have been spotted,(ie are now being actively hunted). Was the US squad too afraid to move? If so, why was it firing on my infantry while taking tank fire? [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 04-23-2000).]
