1. How are the tanks to know for sure that crews are only crews and not anti tank teams?
2. Did you know that you can enter your PBEM password and press enter while the graphics are loading. You do not have to wait until you see the password screen. In this way you are taken to the game faster.
3. Why can't the tac ai give faster squads an automatic pause to keep it in line with slower squads if it is in command of the HQ and you indicate a special formation move? Say you have 3 squads and an HQ. They are in a line formation with the HQ in the rear. Squad 1 would normally react in say 8 sec, squad 2 in 9 and say squad three reacts in 10 sec. say the HQ moves out in 7 sec. If I select any unit and press shift before I select the type of movement order, the tac ai would assume I want that squad to move in formation with it's section. Therefore since the slowest reaction time to get moving is 10 sec, all squads will get going in 10 secs but only if they are in command of a HQ and only if you press shift while giving the order. Any squad that is out of command or that you don't press shift goes on it's own. The HQ will always be part of any such move. So if you only press shift on one squad, it is assumed that the HQ is coordinating with it.
4. Are there any plans to allow squads that are in contact with thier HQ to be able to have the option to begin thier movement at the same time? It would seem like a good use for higher up Hqs as well. If 3 platoon HQs are in contact with the company Hq, the platoon Hqs could move thier platoons at the same time.
5. From the patch's readme file:
quote:
Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord v1.03 UPDATE PATCH - Windows July 26, 2000 www.battlefront.com This is the version 1.03 update for "Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord". It updates versions: 1.0 through 1.02.

You do not need patch 1.01
6. oops [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 07-28-2000).]
7. If you installed it into your cm file and there are no scenarios, it sounds like you deleted your scenerio file.
8. What's inside your scenario folder in your cm folder?
9. You downloaded it in a folder and thats all right?
10. Are you still clicking on the old short cut? Get rid of it boy, ya got a new one.
11. Here's my take on how to do the transition if you are playing multi players. Correct me if I am wrong. Download the 'patch' to a new download folder. Launch version 1.01 from the old .exe. Load your file in the old CM.If you received a file that allows you to give orders, give your orders but do not press go. *Save the game instead*. If you received a movie, you can't save, the other player will have to make the transition. After saving your file, do not press go. Instead just press escape to go back to your desktop. That file was saved in the saved games file of the old CM. Open the folder where you downloaded the new .exe. Cut the saved game file in the saved game files of the old CM folder and paste it in your saved games CM folder in the new download file. Now double click on the new .exe. Version 1.03 CM will start up. Go to the saved games and run the saved game. Now you can press go. The new email file will be 1.03 compatible. Name that file with a prefix 1.03 to indicate to the other player that the transition was made. Once all your opponents have switched to the new version, you can replace the 1.01 .exe with the new 1.03 .exe in your download folder. As per instructions in the readme file, add the new BMPs and Wave files in thier respective folders. iggi
12. Just like people refused to accept CM for what it was, same thing is happenning to wwiionline. This game could be another revolution in wargaming period. You don't have to play the game from the ground level. You can command like in CM and never touch a rifle. Will players cooperate? The system is supposed to encourage cooperation. Think how realistic it will be to command without seeing the enemy at all. The game has huge potential.
13. Try here: http://home.wanadoo.nl/edwin.vos/cm/cm.htm
14. fdiskboy, be gentle with him, he might be a newbie
15.
quote:
This is b/c of the nature of the sprites and models, and can probably not be helped.

Exactly. The game's 2D monitor cuts out situational awareness that you would have in reality. Same thing. Again, it's not for measuring distance,( a paper marked with tick mark suffices). It's to give you a better 3D feel. Something that your eyes or binoculars would give you anyways. Plus I think it looks really cool. I will be using grids. John
16. It's not the grid lines that hurt reality, it's view 2,3 and 4. You should have a FOW option to have those turned off.But then you will go back to the same arguement as before. That is players with more time can just check out different views over and over. [This message has been edited by iggi (edited 07-23-2000).]
17. I've had to pull out the old red filtered flashlight at night in the woods looking at a map in reality, trying to figure out where the hell I was. So why not in CM? Real maps even have cherry orchards on them. Sorry, realistic to me does not equal simulating a dummy in the field.
18. Aszurom, thanks for the grids. Some people don't realise that maps have grids and topo lines.
19. What I did with the CM demo was give different bmps different colors. The work was crude. It was not ment to be pretty, just a good way to sense topography. It worked pretty well actually with the demo. What this mod that is available at CMHQ does tho is allow you to modify just the grid lines and not the whole bmp. This keeps a natural look to the field. I downloaded the file yesterday and changed a few bmps an hour ago. I like the effect. try it out yourselves. I have not prepared a set of 20 bmps. I'm just playing around with them. Other than just changing the color of the grid lines, there's another idea toying in my head. You can also increase the number of grid lines to get that overhead topo look. For grid color changes, I guess you can just pick a color and go through many hues. I'll just have to try diff stuff out.
20. I just played around with the grid lines that I downloaded. The affected Bmps are 1550-1569 giving you a Bmp for each level,(20 levels). The toughest part was having the grid lines made. After that has been done, it is VERY easy to change each Bmp's grid line to a separate color. The effect is great, as elevation clearly sticks out with a different colored grid line. I tried modifying the modified Bmps. Just beautifull.
21. you can kind of make a topo line effect. Go into the Bmp files that were changed and color over each bmp grid line in a different color. So Bmp # xxxx has grid line of one color and Bmp xxxx+1 has grid lines of another color. Elevations should really stick out. Plus you keep the nice game textures.
