  1. Yeah, I think the general practice of the soviet union was pretty much to drive the gank up on the plinth and leave it there
  2. Could it be possible that the angle of decent is actually higher in the game than it is in real life? I posted some videos in another of Kauz's threads about that and it does look like it's higher than 1.3 degrees in the game (to me anyway). Could it be that the arc of a shot is higher in the game for some reason?
  3. Just a casual observation here, but Kauz, you never seem to have any complaints about germans being overpowered. Every time you bring something up it seems to either be about russians being overmodeled, or germans being undermodeled. And you seem to draw pretty stereotyped conclusions about the russians in general (fx. claiming that the T-34/85 had "bad/average optics", which is not true) Just an observation. As for the thread, I don't see the problem. You have a tank firing at a stationary target at long range. The tank would figure out the range pretty quickly, even without much training. Even a conscript tank gunner would have had at least a cursory explanation of how to judge distances against enemy targets (at least this late in the war). After 2-3 ranging-shots you should be hitting the target. Even a conscript should be hitting after that number of shots against a stationary target, even at those ranges. As for sideways movement, did you take any notice of the wind direction and strength in this experiment of yours? Because unless it was windy and blowing crosswinds, the winds would not have made much difference in sideways accuracy against a standing target like that. I can't speak for the penetration of the 85mm or where it hit, but I'm sure someone else will come along and discuss that. I'm still waiting for you to make a post about how any piece of russian equipment is undermodeled... But somehow, I seriously doubt you'll do that
  4. That'd be a follow camera... a third person camera... not first person.
  5. Just out of curiosity, which parts of mine and waclaws mods do you use? I'm always interested in which parts people pick and choose from.
  6. Hmm... that's odd. As far as I know, the only thing you need to do to make the sounds "mac compatible" is to make sure it's 44.1 kHz, 16 bit and mono. And all of my soundfiles are that Oh well, replace it with something else and see if it works. I'll be releasing an update soon for my soundmods and it includes a new LMG sound for the russians. Waclaw doesn't use his forum name on cmmods for some reason, calling himself manolito instead (just like Aris, who goes by Fuzer on the forums), but his mods are here: http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods?author_id=437&game_type=7 As for Aristotoles' mods... I'll just say that they are worth the effort to download...
  7. Not quite. It seems there are some sound mods that won't work that well. Waclaw has a mac version of his sound mod and my sound mod is supposed to work with a Mac (I've had no complaints so far)
  8. Well... Go to http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/ First, download anything from Aristotoles. After that, download anything you like by Kieme (he fills alot of the "holes" left by Aris) Then download the three major soundmods (my soundmods, waclaws soundmods and Jorge MC I believe). Try them out separately and find the one you like the most. Then after that, pick and choose replacements for the sounds you don't like (since you are bound to have different tastes than the author). After that, you just browse the mods by author and see if you find some more mods that suit you. EDIT: Oh and JuJu's UI mod is a must-have!
  9. You're bipolar? Cool, I have AD-HD and slight aspergers. And depressions. And... hmm... this isn't turning into a positive post :/
  10. Here's my short-short answer: Because this is not a tank simulator.
  11. I just avoid forests as much as possible now. BUT, having said that, I think one viable option would be to use split squads moving in leapfrogging movements of about 10 meters per "move" and when said move ends and the next team starts moving, you have a fire order on the first (now stationary) team in the general direction of the suspected enemy. It's time consuming, but if you have to clear a forest, that's how I'd do it.
  12. At the risk of getting attacked by him, I think what Kauz is trying to say is that the shield on the SG43 actually acts as a physical object in-game and bullets can impact and riccochet off it, while the halftrack shield doesn't. And I can't say I remember ever seeing an impact on the halftrack MG shield (riccochet or not). So it's not so much about if the shields are effective or not, but more about that they seem to be modeled differently.
  13. Welcome to the club of "I've played combat mission" pretty much I don't think anyone who plays CM hasn't had this moment of revelation In CMBO it was the "OMG! Tigers aren't invincible" moment. In CMBB it was the "OMG! T-34's aren't super-tanks" moment. In CMAK it was the "OMG! Fighting in open desert terrain SUCKS!" moment. In CMBN it was the "OMG! Infantry is so fragile" moment. In CMFI it was the "OMG! Flak is HELL on infantry and tanks" moment. And in CMRT it was the "OMG! Those 85's hurt like hell!" moment as for the WEGO vs RT thing... It's just a matter of personal taste. Both have unrealistic advantages and disadvantages. I play WEGO because I like the lack of control. The chaos that the battlefield gives. But I also like to be able to look at the action from different angles (and even record it at a later date if I save during the action phase). You should try it sometime. It taught me the value of a minute. ALOT can happen in a minute.
  14. Ok. So it's settled then. BFC, we want more options in general... as many as you can make
  15. Oh, it's another one of Kauz's threads... *backs away slowly and exits the thread*
  16. There's the problem that your entire trench network will be known by the enemy. On the other hand, wouldn't an extensive trench network be known to the enemy anyway? It's not like they pop up over night...
  17. Heh, yeah, I thought those were photoshopped in or something
  18. I'd love to have a hotkey for saving the game... I often save during the action round and having to click the button right beneath the big red button scares the bejeezus out of me... Me not being all that steady on the hand any more, I might click that and end the turn instead Second on the list is an addition to the Icons toggle. Right now it's Show All Icons > Show only spotting icons > show no icons. I'd like to add another there: Show no fortification icons. When you have a large and extensive fortification network it's sometimes hard to see the troop icons in all the clutter.
  19. And then we install Aris' mods and they look even more stunning
  20. BA-64... I can PROMISE you that it is definately being under utilized... and with good reason... thing can hardly stand up against submachinegun fire...
  21. Looks nice! One thing that always gets me with briefings like this is, why would the russian officers be using german designations for things like outpost and main line? It makes no sense really. Sure, us grogs like to throw terms like that around, but I doubt the russians would be spouting german terms for generic things like that. Usually they didn't even use the german terms for actual things like tanks and vehicles. Kinda brings me "out" of it when I see that stuff in a briefing. Just my opinion of course.
  22. Whoa... I can't remember stuff like that! I'm guessing I was playing Close Combat alot and I heard of this game that was really realistic but still easily accessable as a new player... All I remember is that I tried the CMBO demo and was (litterally) blown away by the realism.
  23. Wait... so did we come to a conclusion about the first post at all?
  24. Still... that engine had all its parts attached Trust me, I know about tough vehicles and tough engines... I am from the country of Volvo after all... You can practically run a volvo 240 into a brick wall and still drive away... But if you happen to dislodge one of the fuel lines (like I did on my teachers car when training as a metal shaper) it won't do much at all...
