1. You could also d/l a battle map from Web sites like Der Kessel or Scenario Depot and put the setup zones in the corners using the scenario editor. And if your recon shows your opponent is hugging the edge, then maneuver your armor over that-a-way and attrit the livin' snot out of him. (Sorry, Louie, I couldn't pass that one up).
 2. Aussi, these guys are dead on. Absolutely nothing gamey about recon by teams. Just don't try to fight anything bigger than a sharpshooter with your team. If fired upon, get them out ASAP.
 3.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Unfortunately there are very few controlled conditions in your typical NW-European forest. Since I have never been to a big North-American forest I can not really compare, but suffice to say that we don't get large forest fires here, at all. In cities, buildings have firewalls in between them when they are directly next to each other, or very often would be sufficiently far away from each other or have trees between them, that can delay spreading of fire. Due to the climatical situation, and the fact that NW-European forests are all managed, there is little fuel on the ground, and the ground itself is very moist.

Ah, so NWE is out of control? I thought so. So the grass that is the predominant terrain tile never dries out? Then perhaps BTS should have modeled a "mud" terrain tile. The leaves never fall in the deciduous woods? And all the trees in between buildings in the towns are coniferous? Since I never have been to NWE, I will take your word for it.

 6. I thought we already kaniggeted a grog ... Simone Fox, the chiffon-wearing Aussie. Isn't there a quota/bounty on them? [ 09-24-2001: Message edited by: Moriarty ]
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Germanboy: Check with BH - he's a firefighter. But I would be really careful with this. Should depend on wind-speed (is that going to be modeled? Would be good re: smoke dispersion...) and general humidity. I don't know a first thing about the geography of the Soviet-Union, compared to NWE, but I would expect there to be differences between, say, Finland and the Steppe.

A fire in freeburn stage, i.e. active flame, sufficient oxygen and fuel, will double in size every minute. BTS's example of a 9m-square fire would be 18m-square in the next minute, 36m-square the third minute, and so on (in controlled conditions such as no significant wind, "normal" humidity, etc.) Wind speed, humidity, presence or lack or fuel, etc., would be limiting or aggravating factors. 10. Order it now and get in on the fun before CMBB comes out. Haven't had a lick of trouble with the game ... other than losing a lot.
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by jwxspoon: I like to use the MG Jeeps as towed gun killers. I have had success using the jeep to scoot around to the flank of the gun and knock it out. The guns have a hard time turning and tracking the jeep and I have had some success with this (not enough that i would buy the MG jeep on purpose, but if I was stuck with one in a scenario?).

Mr. Wxspoon's fine tactical use of the MG jeep points out why it's usually a good idea to keep an HMG or supporting infantry with the towed gun. Granted, that's not always possible, but as a rule of thumb ...
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by kking199: Now all I need to be happy is to convince BTS that their website needs some serious overhaul work, visually in particular. I am 100% convinced they have lost sales due to the rather amatuerish look of the site. No need for flash or fancy stuff, just change the sandback background and get rid of the cheesy pirate flag! Kevin King

I vaguely remember a post some time ago where BTS indicated that modernizing the Website would/could be forthcoming. However, CMBB currently has their full-time attention.
 13. Ek, es, excuuuse, me, b-b-butt, ah'll have whadever thhat Jerm..., er, Jahrmo guy iz havin.
 14. Joe Shaw, as long as you and yours are wandering about in fantasy land could you at least get the appellation correct? I am a Senior Knight (who was in fact looking out for the best interests of another Knight of equal standing) and thus entitled to all the hyperbole and prevarication that is attached to such a dubious position. Now, as to this rack thingy you've got going ... you only added another inch or so. I think I'm due for another session ... and this time have your flea-bitten minions put some effort into it. Be so kind as to stop when I'm 6'2". Many thanks, cheerio and all that.
 15. Haven't seen the CM Borg in a long time, but I think it's apparent that resistance is futile, you have been assimilated. Good luck and good hunting to you.

I warn you, Moriarty, don't mess with us -- we're on a mission from God.

I quiver with fear (yawn) at your blathering, oops, warning. Oh, and before youse twos put me on the list ... or write my name in the book and strike it out ... I believe that's already been done. [ 09-17-2001: Message edited by: Moriarty ]
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by MrSpkr: And I ask, Moriarty, how effective would you expect a staffer to be if the staffer didn't ASPIRE to climb (descend, in this case?) the corporate ladder? Ambition, motivation, and a willingness to squish all other life forms in the quest for power are ESSENTIAL parts of the capitalist system. In short, Moriarty: Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Communist Party?

The answer to that, young wretch, is no. And my question to you MrSpkr is: Have you stopped undercutting your boss? A simple "yes" or "no" will suffice. checkmate. [ 09-17-2001: Message edited by: Moriarty ]
 18.
quote:
Originally posted by Pshaw MrSpkr, in your role of Assistant Justicar of the Peng Challenge Thread and Associate CessPool Drain Commissioner DESIGNATE, please take note of this failure ... it is a GOOD thing to have a staff.

I pose to you this question, Joe Shaw: Is still a good thing to have a staff when said staff has eyes on usurpation? To wit, after MrPeng indicated that he would perform an invasive surgical procedure upon one part of your anatomy with a portion of your anatomy from another region of your anatomy, and presumably to inflict a grievous if not mortal injury, or at least goad a turn out of you, he, being MrSpkr, doth say:
quote:
Originally posted by MrSpkr: Please do it -- it will mean I am up for a promotion. 19. Lawyer, (bolding to denote 'Pool status), we'll expect a full AAR. You should take this show on the road ... to Chicago.
 20. The round may have also caused a crew casualty ... perhaps shocking the rest of the crew, especially if the TC is down.
 21. You had a combination of luck (Marders aren't known for living very long, thin armor, high profile) and other specifics the game takes into consideration -- like crew experience, angle of shot, angle of armor, range, etc., etc. There are those who can cite chapter and verse (I'm not one of them) about what goes into the shot calculation as to whether you hit and deflect, miss, hit and damage or hit and knock out. However, my considered opinion, having taken in all the information is: Some days you eats the bear; some days the bear eats you.
 22. ... and Pawbroon must be in charge of all of the Gig ... er, Justicar's written correspondence.
 23. Nah, you're not dumb. You just haven't fully explored the possibilities of all that is CM yet.

Bah, you're nearly one of us save for the self-administered paucity of your posts. You do, however, have that certain air of disdain and savoir faire of Cess about you. So, when you say "Peng scum," mister, you sure you're not looking in the mirror? And if "what's gamey" isn't sure-fire bait for FTp, how about any topic that starts with Short-75?
