  1. I also think countries are probably very tight with providing manpads support these days since it would be very easy for them to end up shooting down airliners all over the place when they fall into the wrong hands. Things not to let fall in terrorist hands probably in this order: Biological Zombie Apocalypse inducing weapons (or disassembler nanobots)A bombsNerve or other chemical agentsMANPADS
  2. Another guy with good ww2 footage on youtube is darkborn2000. Los https://www.youtube.com/user/darkborn20000/videos
  3. Yep just like combat mission I advance my APCs across an open field and they get blown up.
  4. This is a holy grail for a bunch of us. However as stated above, right now you can do 2 v 2 or larger PBEM games, through we-go and files transfers. It does take a while after all one turn has to be passed to say four players and they all have to do their part before executing the turn. You could set the options for only seeing what the unit sees and then rely on the honor of your teammates. If you have ever played say Scourge of war: Gettysburg, they pretty much have the holy grail of multiplayer combat where you can have a large number of players each command sub units (Brigades, divisions etc) and even go the extra step of limiting what each player can see from only the saddle and limit communications to courier. Its pretty awesome and gives a great simulation of commanding battles in that period. Even better the games occur in real time (meaning one second is one second...not to be confused with RTS) so you are no held up in large games by some dud that wants to micromanage every soldier. Its a pretty awesome experience especially when the multiplayer battles are part of a larger multiplayer campaign. The guys in those CMPzC threads have done a great job of maximizing the CM experience with the tools they have on hand. Los
  5. "Makes you wonder if some of Ukraine's MANPADS stock might just fall off a truck somewhere out of spite rather than any long term goals. " I'd imagine at this point Ukraine wants to hold on to as many MANPADS as they can.
  6. This is basic attack helicopter 101 in non-permissive environment. Keep in mind that if the guy with the camera had a 12.7mm machinegun or 23mm instead, he could just as easily have shot down the hinds in this video. FLy higher avoid AAA, fly lower to mitigate SAMS. Also having trained on stingers, these videos angle aspects still provide the shooter with ample time to shoot down the HINDS w MANPADS. POINT being operating HINDS over built up areas in a non permissive environment still require a bunch of luck. Also I don't know why it surprises anyone that the helo pilots are showing skill, its not like they are a bunch of yahoos devoid of combat experience or lacking the ability to study other armies combat experience. I wonder if the Saudis will now take the dangerous step of providing more ada/manpads to the resistance.
  7. CMAK had early war as well...Crete and all that. Los
  8. Chalk me up for one who grows tired of 1944 (and 45) über hardware. I'd like to see CM move to 1941 (and for the west 39-40). So any step back in years from 1944 is a step forward for me. Los
  9. Well the pirated copies I saw were back when only CM 1 was out. My point wasn't that the DRM can be defeated, but that even some lowly little game like CM isn't above being pirated.
  10. I'd like to pitch in here. I own all the CM products and multiple copies as well as we have 4 gaming capable machines at my house (inc laptops). Me and my kids will sometimes play LAN. Whatever. Point is at somepoint over the years (15+) and sometimes multiple points I have had crashes, virus attacks, things happen to PCs. If you use your PC a lot (and if there are teenagers around) these are basic things that are apt to happen. (Last month two machines went down within a week, including a very yucky liquid cooling failure!) I do agree with everyone that the DRM is hinky and when you own all the modules and you won v2 and version 3 upgrades it can be ponderous to deal with this BS when there are other DRMs out there. At this point I do appreciate the steam model of drm for this reason. However, every time I have had to reinstall and have been out of activations I have put in a ticket, and battlefront have responded rapidly and helped me fix my issue. So following the tech support process has worked for me. I am not trying to minimize issues others are having with their activations. Also Steve knows that several times when I was deployed overseas, I could walk right out of the base a buy copies of Combat mission from the local CD vendor. So people do pirate stuff! Los
  11. Speaking of animations, I guess this is the time of the year where I put in my annual pitch for some variation in moment perhaps with nationality specific movement animations, (though everyone is apt to use any of these). You can notice this trend if you see enough footage, Germans tend to carry their rifles in trail, Brits in high port GIs in low port etc...
  12. The original schok-ta-tola minus the swastika can be had from various specialty German food distributors here in the US in the red tin. I ordered some not too long ago. Los
  13. Good enough that after 14 years combat they still figure prominently in the BCT MTOE.
  14. Guys I was a unattended ground sensor specialist for a few years back when I was in the 82d. They are in fact a nifty piece of technology and were used regularly on every battalion sized operation with one 3 to 6 man team attached. We would jump in, move to whatever location, hand emplacement sensor strings and any required relays, then reenter our lines and co locate by the bn s-2 and feed him contacts, often these would be used for fire missions. Our emplacement patrols might be on foot ( we carried the heaviest rucks in division and operated well forward of the Feba) or mounted with the scout platoon. We also had a number of joint missions with SF. Today every BCT has a ground surveillance platoon as part of the surveillance troop so they are still in use. ( IIRC using REMBASS II) So it's not outside the realm of possibility that these might make a nifty tool in the CM toolbox. So John thanks for posting this, it brings back memories. Los
  15. Well we already have decent snow in CMFI so this is hardly some attempt to invent intersteller travel. Also Wiggle has somewhat of a point...its great all the excellent work the mod community have done, but why not incorporate some of this stuff into the base product? Los
  16. You want to transform theMP game experience then add multiple players per side functionality...multiplayer coop ala Scourge of War Gettysburg. Now you can have real chain of command and friction, and for sure dispense with the igo ugo in that circumstance and make it realtime to weed out men from boys.
  17. Take Note bull****ters everywhere....
  18. Girls Und Panzer. I'd download that mod!
  19. Ok Jon that's a laughable article. Anyone who ever got a case of the runs, anyone who ever suffered hearing loss is now a war casualty. That's about everyone that's ever been in the service! (Including me) Seriously man you undermine your own arguments with stuff like that. Los
  20. Its funny you mentioned this. I am a big fan of tabletop and board wargaming. Though lately when I buy a set of rules or a scenario book I look at the maps and scenarios and immediately think to build it in combat mission. A few months ago I bought toofatlardies Let's Go! 29th ID Normandy campaign supplement for Chain of Command. I really liked the linked platoon level scenarios and maps, so instead of setting them up on the table I built them in CMBN and fought them that way. It was neat to see the maps translated into 3d. I was looking at some Mout scenarios and TDGs and decided instead of fighting them on the table I built Shugart Gordon in CMBS and then fought them there. Did the same for Copehill Down. Even a month ago I set up on the tabletop a small Bulge scenario for Chain of Command, had all the terrain and. Troops set up, I then decided to sit down w kolenklaus CMFI bulge mod, built and fought the mission there. the tabletop ended up set up unplaced for a month. I guess I'm lazy... Los
