  1. Actually last night I started rebuiling it for CMBN when I have the map only ready I will send it your way so you can try it on with your new graphics while I work on the mission itself. THsi way when you are ready for release we'll have a few maps
  2. I am about five days out from publishing Team Ohara for CMFI. Should I scrap it and convert right away? Iirc cmbn won't read cmfi maps. Los
  3. I don't think the human wave is relevant to the melee itself which is already something that happens in Combat Mission. However It is relevant to getting a battalion of conscripts across that 500 m frozen expanse INTO melee. Los
  4. Well, I only rolled out the artillery for the movie, in the battle we are fighting they are all offboard.
  5. Just being sarcastic. I've been a lifelong student of this battle.
  6. "Had no idea the Germans took so many casualties before hitting the ground. All that Enfield practice paid off handsomely, with many FJ dead before arrival. The scale of German unit losses beggars description." Yet somehow they won through!
  7. John, Thanks. I was looking around for 25lbrs in CM as standalone guns that I could use, do they have them in there? Other than OBA? Los
  8. Yeah like I was saying somewhere else this alone makes for an operational level experience inside the tactical game. After this battle is over, then we'll get the real feel for the campaign, e.g. the battalion will be at a certain level of strength. Hopefully I'll recover form my concussion enough to resume command of A company and my 11 year old can go back to his Kerbal Space program. <g> The NPC commander will revert to a Brigade commander and determine how best to take a crack at Tilly and from which direction, or decide maybe that the rest of this Fontenoy map has to be cleared first. Or maybe we'll get our butts kicked and have to do the assault all over. As for the mechanics. Each side can easily share the same password or everyone can be on one side vs AI. You just have to work out who is in charge of what forces ahead of time. We add a little twist of not allowing HE until the commander OKs it, this way if multiple units are calling for arty at the same time he decides on the priority. Any potential delay is just normal friction. The downside to all this is everyone pretty much has to commit to keeping a steady pace of turns going. Again this can be mitigated during times when there isn't a ton going on where one guy can advance a few turns provided the everyone has given orders to their troops and that the guy churning out turns understands everyone intent and when to revert things back to passing the file along every turn. This type of cooperation would of course be the purview or more laid back less anal-controlling type players... Los
  9. I think if one combines the new large maps with some eventual ability to play them with multiple coop or HtH (2 or more players for side), you will get larger "operational" sized battles without having to do anything more. The operational stuff gets worked out among players "meta game". Otherwise if you have a massive map and a million troops its still just one guy spending hours noodling through all these commands. Potentially tedious.
  10. How about implementing AI plans for the friendly side on the fly?
  11. SITUATION as of 0715 The battalion has been adjusting to the current situation during its advance in particular the identified enemy positions to B Company's Right Flank. C Company has been deployed to attack along B company's right to eliminate this threat. This could then put it in a good position to at least seize OAK. Situation by Company: A Coy has been under a heavy barrage for the past 15 minutes which has centered on 1st platoon. 2d and 3rd plt as well as the tanks supporting are in good shape but I have to declare 1st plt as combat ineffective at this point. It is possible that this barrage is in preparation for an enemy counter attack. Patrols have pushed along the leftmost bn boundary into the outskirts of Fontenoy and should give good early warning if they come from that direction. 3rd platoon has been in active engagement, with small arms and AT guns, of enemy positions along its front. Attempts to push OPs forward have been unsuccessful due to enemy MG fire. A Coy commander has been successfully evacuated to the bn aid station. 3rd platoon A coy engaging enemy positions The enemy can still bring effective AT fire to bear in the area behind A coy and between A & B coys. The BN XO was killed in movement between positions when his vehicle was hit. B Coy has pushed itself along the sunken road and is a good support by fire position which can cover threats to the South, west and North. It has already brought enemy positions to it s right flank under fire and directing a barrage on Identified enemy pillboxes. B Coy along the sunken road. Barrage falling on enemy to their right. C Coy has moved forward and deployed to conduct an attack on B Coy right flank against enemy positions just east of obj OAK. The attack should start in maybe five minutes after the artillery is done prepping. C Coy has requested from Bn released of several pioneer sections in support of reducing enemy bunkers. 7 Plt C Coy awaiting the word to advance farther D Coy remains bn reserve Remaining Tanks supporting all companies. The view from above looking West
  12. re Quick battle map deployment zones. I believe that without a deployment zone any units you purchase for your side will simply start setup along the friendly map edge in any old mish mash, not an ideal situation, because at the start of the battle as you will have to take a bunch of turns to get organized. So yes you should designate deployment zones for your quick maps. And if you are playing a quick battle against the AI they will need objectives and AI plans are good too. Open up a few quick battle maps in the editor to get an idea Los
  13. So I have it in mind after the last two Bulge Scenarios to work on a Rocherath-Krinkelt master map. Should I start doing this in CMBN then?
  14. Download the CMFI GL Bulge44 mod that's in the Repository and have at it!
  15. Just to fantasize about something that won't happen... Imagine if under the reinforcement tab in the scenario editor one of the options for reinforcement was airborne drop. In this function a reinforcing unit appears as a paradrop. Two factors would affect the placement of the reinforcement: Enemy AA or small arms within range of the drop could cause casualties. Weather determines drift error and squad scatter. Perhaps a simple effect (like explosions) has the parachute dropping and then the squad appearing. Any airborne unit loaded into a glider forgoes para drop but some similar such glider landing. Drop targets are selected at the company level, or perhaps purchased like TRPs. Now you would be cooking with gas....
  16. I will be happy to work on maps and scenarios....and any other assistance.
  17. Being that we're fighting right now on Retimo the closest I'm getting to these babies are the mortar rounds they are dropping on my head...
  18. One thing I do is that I have multiple PCs, some notebooks some desktops. So I have CMBN installed on like four machine CMFI on two. One CMFI is running Bulge the other normal. And with my CMBN installs I can play HTH Solo or LAN which helps experiment with various set ups defenses etc when designing scenarios. Los
  19. That's awesome. Just imagine of Broadsword sees that.
  20. I thought the tanks were yours, either way I dl'd them from either the repository or CMMods. It turns out Naplam made them, he has a few winter vehicles up there at CMMods.. No need for a gift certificate. Its a wonderful thought however. Just crank out more stuff... Thanks Los
  21. As you can see from the pics above there are already some very nice models and skins already. The FJ skins released upon the repository cover nearly the entire war and can be mixed and matched. The Germans are missing things like 50mm teams.,one could use the Italians but they don't quite look great with the Germans so better t go without them. Just assumed they all ended up in the drink. If we make a few master maps, Heraklion, Maleme, Retimo, etc an acceptable mod could be put together for scenario development. Los
  22. Howdy these were mentioned in the bottom of the vehicle thread but I thought I would put them in a separate thread. In commemoration of 71 years ago here are two Bulge scenarios: Both these missions were designed for NOTE: This mission was designed for the BULGE 44 MOD by Kohlenklau, available at Battlefront Repository and CMMOds. Note: Both these scenarios have light snow. (I mention this since I know there is at least one guy on this forum that blows a gasket at the sight of snow in his CM scenarios.) Lanzerath Ridge, Belgium. 16 December, 1944 by Los This battle is a version of the delaying action on Lanzerath Ridge with the I&R platoon of the 394th Infantry regiment (under the command of Lt. Lyle Bouck) vs I.9 FJR. It's pretty much an infantry engagement. Can be played HTH or Single player. Size is SMALL. http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5097/details Looking over towards Lanzerath Ridge: The second battle is "The Stand at Noertrange". ( a small village between Wiltz and Bastogne) This is a medium sized battle. Can be played HTH or Single player (best as Germans). This is a combined arms operation. http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/5094/details A scene from the action, note Kohlenklau's winter camo. And here's the map: Enjoy and thanks to the mod makers for their inspiring work. Hopefully they will be available in the repository as well. Los
  23. Just a quick point there is nothing to prevent perfectly fine Crete battles right now. Sure the occasional Fg42 my sneak its way into a squad but that is hardly a deal breaker. Los
