  1. The project is potentially huge so I plan on doing this over several smaller scenarios. This first one is very abstract with planets simply being represented as islands in an 'ocean' of space. Ground and air forces will be strictly sidelined in favour of naval (read: Spaceship) combat. Future scenarios I have planed include several 'worlds' separated by space so that ground troops become much more important. This scenarios a voyage of discovery for me to see just what the editor is capable of. It's also a good excuse to make some cool spaceship sprites
  2. After a long day I have completed most of the graphics for the ships... Just a dodgy looking d'deridex class warbird to redo tomorrow as it looks a little too cartoony at present. All but the Klingon ground troops are completed and the tiles are all done. Graphically all I have to do is finish the resource/terrain tiles and complete the map. Then the flags and the interface will require a week or so's work. Sound files and media images will take a couple of weeks to complete and then the task of scripting will commence. I think only light scripting will do for now as this is only meant as a light introductory scenario. Plans are already under way for the next instalment if this one gets much interest. PS something tells me that you guys are, unhealthily, fond of seafood... either that or you just don't appreciate classic sci-fi
  3. Space Sharks, eh? Looks like I have a new race to work on
  4. I have been working on a few projects but all of them have been pushed down the queue in favour of a MOD that I have been dying to do since I started the War of the Worlds MOD: Star Fleet Battles! Coming this Christmas to a computer near you! [ November 03, 2007, 01:32 AM: Message edited by: Moonslayer ]
  5. This is a top notch tool... it will be VERY useful to scriptwriters. Well worth the effort of downloading, Folks.
  6. With the editor these different classes of units can be recrafted to form multiple unit types that are more in-keeping with historical units. There is now enough variety to create pretty much any unit type you desire. Historical accuracy can be more strictly adhered to or thrown out of the window entirely.
  7. I noticed this in beta but have always assumed it was a feature not a bug. Apologies for not bringing this up myself. *kicks self in shin*
  8. Modding the ai is simplicity itself and you can make it as simplistic or as complicated as you like. Modding the units and graphics is so straight forward and logical that a trained chimp would barely find it a challenge. I have HoI and HoI2 and personally, I find SC2WaW to be far superior to both (I prefer HoI to HoI2, however). HoI has a couple of features that SC2 misses out on but overall SC2 is the better game. If you want to take a look at the range of mods available for SC2 then try www.cmmods.com for size. You will find mods ranging from Waterloo to global WWII. You will find new unit sprites and ambiance enhancing scripts. You will even find a mod of War of the Worlds (shameless plug) which alters virtually every feature it is possible to mod. Mods for the new SC2WaW are in production even as I type. Several of the Beta team are working on projects, myself included. These will surface once the game has been released to the general population. SC2 is definitely the game to choose... It's the game I prefer and I came into it after discovering HoI.
  9. Actually I have seen dozens of different 'Elvis'', they come in packs of six!
  10. If you get no joy with the sprites then try putting a post on the 'tech support forum'... others may be able to help you more.
  11. No need for a solution... we are what we are and I, for one, wouldn't want to change that. Remove our capability/desire to wage war and you reduce our chances of survival as a species.
  12. War is such a last desperate attempt to protect one's country that it certainly IS a situation where fairness should be abolished. If my country goes to war I expect it to only be for the protection of the state when there is no other course of action possible. Then and only then would I advocate any and all means necessary to destroy my opponent's ability to hurt me. I take the same viewpoint when having to physically defend myself against violence from others. Rules cease to be a concern and 'fair play' goes out the window. Imho war is not despicable... the reasons for going to war may be. War is never an option... but sometimes it becomes necessary for our very survival. Under those circumstances then 'unfairness' becomes perfectly 'fair'.
  13. Sprite bleeds won't crash the system. Try video driver update and check your dx is up to date as a first thing. If you really need a grid then there is either already one in the extras folder in your sc2 folder or you can d/l one from CMMods (I cannot remember where I got mine from). Failing that send me your email addy and I will send you a copy.
  14. Frost, I would love a copy of those sprites also (I am creating a pacific theatre mod for WaW and was going to create them from scratch). I do have a set of sprites but they are a little rough. Much appreciated.
  15. The choice is easy... deactivate the soviet winter effect in the scripts before you play. Job Done. No further 'model' is needed imho.
  16. Powergmbh: if the scale was the same as the vanilla scenario then I would indeed allow all those vessels... but the scale is much smaller. I would probably half the allowed units compared to the 1939 fall weiss scenario and use 6/17 for Jap/US carriers. But then I love ships
  17. Frost, Houston is a separate country only temporarily to simulate the oil exports to Japan. The two USAs are amalgamated later in the scenario
  18. I am one of the 'prefer tiles' school as hexes tended to get clogged up far too easily but tiles allow for a more fluid battlefront imho. However, horses for courses. Encirclements are harder but not impossible. The high losses experienced by the defenders does, imo, represent the large numbers of surrendering troops.
  19. You guys having issues do have the latest directx and graphics drivers, don't you? Nothing wrong with the files that I downloaded so probably a problem with your software... however, cannot think of a single reason why these mods should cause you issues.
  20. The 1939 scenario IS balanced, hence it should not be changed. You want lots of US tanks pouring over France? Use the editor. I appreciate that you guys are proud of your country and want to see it in it's full glory in this game. The problem is that this IS a game and national pride has no place in this situation. The game needs to be balanced to make it playable for PvP. You want a 'bunta-bash' then make a mod and post it for you guys to have your fun. The basic scenario doesn't need the change.
  21. Both the CGN file and the file folder should go directly to the 'campaigns' folder. May have corrupted during download, maybe you could d/l again?
  22. Great mod. A few rough edges (some already mentioned) such as: Japanese fighter sprites have 'wrong' colour white on them; Sicily is isolated from the Sicilian port and hence the Italian unit is stuck; USSR activation is extremely slow (1942 and still no sign of declaring war); Brazil should be pro USA not pro Axis. May be others but still have a way to go to finish the scenario. There is a set of Japanese sprites available (forget where) and I have a copy of them. The game would be even better with them I like this mod... having great fun smashing the pacific at the moment... decided NOT to attack pearl harbour yet though
